Playgrounders,

Do you see Dread Necro 10 / Pale Master 10 as a good build? If not, what would work better with a Dread Necro? Is it a class to take straight through for best benefit?

Thank you in advance -

Well, that depends on what you want to do with the character. If you really want to go the whole animating legions of undead then you are better off going full DN (due to the way the bonus HD feature is worded). If you just wanted to focus on being a necromancy school caster with a powerful undead ally then that build is fine.

It's not that it's bad, but abilities from Pale Master are redundant with Dread Necromancer. But get touch attack and some undead resistances at different points. Pale Master is better for Wizard or Sorcerer chassis necromancers. If you just want to concentrate on Necromancy, you could go pure Dread Necromancer. Otherwise, Fiend-Blooded get more spells to spell list and Nightmare Spinner increases spells per day.

Good PrCs for Dread Necro are generally those that expand on the Spell list, since a fixed Caster list is automatically one of the biggest limiting factors to a primary Caster. As such, Sandshaper and Rainbow Servant are often recommended for those DNs who wish to PrC out. Consult your DM on how the choice to exit DN impacts your pool of Undead which you can command, as there has been considerable debate on this topic.

Pale Master's free animate dead is useful to the undead army dread necromancer. There are cheaper ways but Pale Master is viable.
