OK, so the Joystealer (MM IV, p.78) has a Drain Emotions special attack. Anyone drained to 0 Cha by the creature loses it's ability to feel emotions.

Side effects of this include immunity to fear and to morale penalties. They also cannot rage or benefit from morale bonuses.

I was wondering, assuming you get your Cha healed back up from 0, is this a "cheap" way to get fear immunity? Or does losing the ability to benefit from morale bonuses make this a very bad idea?

You actually lose morale bonuses from Mind Blank too, but people will still line up for our all day.

Unless you are dealing with a situation where you expect morale bonuses to be frequent and significant (I.e.: Marshal or Bard in group), it's probably an acceptable trade.

There are likely better ways to get fear immunity in most situations, but (outside the caveats above), this should still generally be a net positive.

Yeah, good points - unless you have a Bard or another party member who gives out a lot of Morale bonuses, it's not going to hurt you that much.

Sure, you can get class, item or spell based fear immunity, but this seemed like you could pretty much get it for "free" if you encounter a Joystealer.

The roleplaying aspects of an emotionless character would also be interesting...

"Highly illogical, Captain."

If you want fear immunity, Planar Touchstone -> Catalogues of Enlightenment -> Dream domain might be a bit more expedient.
