[3.5/PF] GitP Regulars as Dragon Marks and Dragon Mark Prestige classes

Keeping with the theme of feats that give new abilities.

Dragon Marks give you spell like abilities when you take Least Dragon Mark, Lesser Dragon Mark, and Greater Dragon Mark. They can also give a Syberis level ability with the Heir of Syberis, but no one does that. Dragon Marks are usually attached to a race, but there are Aberrant Marks that don't need that, too.

Also, some Mark have PrCs that require them. These PrCs usually give something neat for the mark or boost it's CL, as well as have abilities related to the mark.

As always, make sure to have permission before posting a mark. Also, give your permission so your friends can give you one.

This spell increases yours or someone elses crafting ability. A creature under this spell gains a +10 enchantment bonus to the next craft check they make. Increasing to +20 at caster level 5, and +30 at caster level 9. This spell can even effect mindless creatures that you control. Letting them be able to make craft checks in addition to providing the bonus.

Well, here's the brief version of Dragonmarks.

1. True Dragonmarks appear in scions of one of the Dragonmarked Houses, families famed for their Dragonmarks and the powers they provide. A House will generally have a family name (e.g. Cannith, Lyrandar) and an associated Dragonmark (e.g. Making, Storm). Because of their inherited nature, Dragonmarks are race-locked. They are thematic - the SLAs for each Mark fall within a general concept. For example, the Mark of Detection SLAs are all "Detect X," "See Y," and otherwise divination-related; the Mark of Making SLAs are all about mending or creating objects, which is pretty sick when you realize you can use Major Creation as a 1/day SLA; the Mark of Storm is all about being completely freaking metal and turning everything into tempests forever, because Half-Elves need the love.

2. Aberrant Dragonmarks are not race-locked like True Dragonmarks. Further, while True Dragonmarks provide a thematic set of powers (e.g. Mark of Storm, which provides various weather-related abilities at each level), Aberrant Dragonmarks simply allow you to select from a menu of abilities. As such, Aberrant Dragonmarks probably aren't a great fit for this thread, seeing as there's no "Aberrant Mark of X;" it's just a feat that grants you an SLA with no fluff or concept attached.

3. True Dragonmarks come in four levels - Least, Lesser, Greater, and Siberys. The first three can be acquired sequentially as feats; the last can only be acquired via the Heir of Siberys PrC, and then only if the bearer has no other Dragonmarks whatsoever. Least Dragonmarks generally grant a 2/day use of a 0th-level spell or 1/day of 1st-level; Lesser generally grants 2/day of 2nd level or 1/day of 3rd. Greater generally grants a 1/day use of a 6th- or 7th-level spell. Least and Lesser frequently offer a selection of spells, but some Greater Dragonmarks only offer one. (Some offer two, though.) A Siberys Dragonmark comes with only one option, generally a 9th-level spell.

4. Additionally, there are several prestige classes that focus on Dragonmarks. One obvious one is the Dragonmark Heir PrC, which gives you your Lesser and Greater Dragonmark feats for free and gives you extra uses of your SLAs. Another is the Heir of Siberys class, a 3-level PrC which grants the Siberys Mark. In addition, each of the Dragonmarked Houses has its own 5-level PrC, the levels of which count as levels in Dragonmark Heir for purposes of calculating your Dragonmark's CL; each of these has special abilities that augment your Dragonmark specifically. For example, the Storm Sentry class focuses on those who have the Mark of Storm and chose the Gust of Wind SLA - the class gives you additional uses of the SLA, and allows you to expend them for additional powers.

They got quite a bit of fluff from the book Dragonmarked and an explination why they are hated by the houses so much. They also got the full least,lesser, greater treatment, along with side feats that got quite powerful, and a siberys equivilent from a web article on the wizards site.

I started with a combination of crazy, cold, and survival, slowly phasing out the latter two in favor of the former, suggesting that as the Dragonmark becomes more involved, the mind goes more wacky. Thus, the Least gives a survival option, a cold weapon, and "ooh pretty lights;" the Lesser gives a crazy, a survival option, and a weaponized crazy; the Greater gives crazy and a weapon; and Siberys gives concentrated cuckoopants.

As if anyone doubted that Snow's gifs performed the same function as a Symbol of Insanity.

Most assume that devilkind just respect them that much, a rumor which the family does nothing to suppress, but the truth is that creating a contract that comes out even, if not weighted toward the family, is considered a rite of passage to becoming one of the heads of the family. Each head of the Crimsych family has negotiate a contract with a fiend that not only provides him power, but eventually ends with the family member ahead of the fiend.

House Crimsych (Human or Tiefling): House Crimsych is an old noble family that boasts some of the most intelligent members of the ruling class. Each of the upper-level members is in contract with a high-ranking devil. Most assume that devilkind just respect them that much, a rumor which the family does nothing to suppress, but the truth is that creating a contract that comes out even, if not weighted toward the family, is considered a rite of passage to becoming one of the heads of the family. Each head of the Crimsych family has negotiate a contract with a fiend that not only provides him power, but eventually ends with the family member ahead of the fiend.

Slightly brilliant. It fits entirely with my concept of Lawful Evil, the idea that you are entitled to power if you demonstrate the ability to take it successfully. I love the concept of the family, on its own, even before we get to the Dragonmarks. I could totally see a thoroughly LE-leaning family using this as a rite of passage, the same way that others use "Climb the mountain and retrieve a stone" or "Craft a worthy sword" or "Take the pebble from my hand." It's excellent.


Mark of Dominion, Least: You may use charm person 1/day, hypnotism 1/day, or daze 2/day as a spell-like ability. The SLA you may use must be chosen at the time you acquire your Dragonmark, and may not be changed. A saving throw against your Dragonmark spell-like ability has a DC of 10 + the level of the spell + your Cha modifier. Your caster level for your Dragonmark spell-like abilities is 1 + your levels in the Dragonmark Heir prestige class, if any.

This is great, although I'd probably take Charm Person simply because an SLA that lasts hours/level is amazing. I mean, even when first taken, that's a save DC of 11+Cha, and guaranteed to last for one hour. When you get your Lesser, that bumps up to six hours. 1/day, sure, but still, incredible.

That said, at low levels, Daze is criminally good for a more combat-oriented Dragonmarked. And 2/day basically ends encounters.


Mark of Dominion, Lesser: You may use suggestion 1/day, tongues 1/day, or touch of idiocy 2/day as a spell-like ability. The SLA you may use must be chosen at the time you acquire your Dragonmark, and may not be changed. A saving throw against your Dragonmark spell-like ability has a DC of 10 + the level of the spell + your Cha modifier. Your caster level for your Dragonmark spell-like abilities increases to 6 + your level in the Dragonmark Heir prestige class (if any).

Again, fantastic choices, and at this point the duration is at least an hour (6 hours for Suggestion).


Mark of Dominion, Greater: You may use geas/quest 1/day or symbol of persuasion 1/day as a spell-like ability. The SLA you may use must be chosen at the time you acquire your Dragonmark, and may not be changed. A saving throw against your Dragonmark spell-like ability has a DC of 10 + the level of the spell + your Cha modifier. Your caster level for your Dragonmark spell-like abilities increases to 10 + your level in the Dragonmark Heir prestige class (if any).

Being able to use a spell with a 10-minute casting time as a standard action SLA is incredible, even if it is 1/day, and I love it. (Although, on second thought, I think you have to spend the full casting time on an SLA. Pity.) Even better, Geas/Quest has no saving throw, which is just absolutely cruel.

If memory serves, though, Symbol of Persuasion's cost must still be paid when using it as a spell-like ability. So that's about 5,000 gp right there.


Mark of Dominion, Siberys: You may use dominate monster 1/day as a spell-like ability.

Days/level. Fantastic. And Siberys marks have a CL of 15, which means 15 days. Which is positively glorious.

Do like.

Thus, the Least gives a survival option, a cold weapon, and "ooh pretty lights;" the Lesser gives a crazy, a survival option, and a weaponized crazy; the Greater gives crazy and a weapon; and Siberys gives concentrated cuckoopants.

As if anyone doubted that Snow's gifs performed the same function as a Symbol of Insanity.

Eh, time is an illusion anyway. Just a mental framework to organize events. The only truth in it is some events must precede specific other events because of causality. Otherwise events don't necessarily happen for everyone in the same order.

And the ideas just keep on coming! First, a quick lesson.

Generally, Dragonmarks are gained by either taking the Least Dragonmark, Lesser Dragonmark, and Greater Dragonmark feats (and belonging to the appropriate house), by taking the Aberrant Dragonmark, Lesser Aberrant Dragonmark, and Greater Dragonmark feats, or by taking the Heir of Siberys PrC (which is the only way to gain a Siberys Dragonmark). So the Dragonmarks I've listed so far in this thread are True Dragonmarks that can be acquired through these means.

In addition, however, there are special feats available to those who possess Dragonmarks. I'm going to throw out a few of those, here.

Mark of the Phoenix (NeoPhoenix0)
Your Dragonmark allows you to withstand the fiercest flame.

Prerequisite: Any True or Aberrant Dragonmark.

Benefit: Depending on the power of your Dragonmark, you can withstand fire, as follows:
Least Dragonmark or Aberrant Dragonmark: You gain Fire Resistance equal to 1/2 your character level, rounded down.
Lesser Dragonmark or Lesser Aberrant Dragonmark: You gain Fire Immunity.
Greater Dragonmark or Greater Aberrant Dragonmark: Any time you would take Fire damage, you are instead healed for 1/2 of the damage you would have taken, rounded down.
Siberys Dragonmark: All allies within 30 feet, including you, gain Fire Immunity.
Special: If your Dragonmark's power increases (i.e. because you took the requisite feat), this feat's power changes accordingly.

Actually, from what i understand you can. Whatever PrC that grants Shadow Pounce lets you full attack whenever you teleport (or something to that effect) so if you use the 3 different versions of Shadow Jaunt, you would get 3 Full Attacks.

Im probably misremembering the exact wording of Shadow Pounce but i know that, as long as you fulfilled the requirement, you got a Full Attack.

How non-Siberys Dragonmarks work is that you take the Least version, then Lesser, then Greater, each time as a feat. Each has the previous as a prerequisite. Each feat gives you additional SLAs, on top of the previous ones (not in place of them). If/when you take the higher-level feat, the RAW feat language states that your "caster level for your dragonmark spell-like abilities increases to 6 + your level in the dragonmark heir prestige class (if any)." So, yes, taking a higher-level Dragonmark feat causes your CL to "evolve," if that's what you mean.

k, I need to backup a bit and explain this as simply as I can. Unfortunately this doesn't really get any simpler than this and I probably lost some of the concept in the process somewhere.

perception is merely you observing the area of spacetime at the location you are at. Time and space are extremely relative and overall cannot be concrete since people can perceive things to happen in different orders based on where they are. People can even perceive things to be different lengths apart. Time and space are functions of perception. Time seems to exist because of causality. People can only agree on things when you plot out events in a 4d area called spacetime. Space and time are relative based on perception but an events spacetime interval can be agreed upon by all observers.

The reason why we perceive time as real is we perceive a 3d environment while traveling through a 4d area and we need to separate events with a concept so everything doesn't happen at the same time.

Step two, pick the characteristic you're going to mock ruthlessly focus on mock ruthlessly.

The save DC is the same as the save against your Aberrant Dragonmark spell-like abilities. On a failed save, that target takes one point of ability damage to a random ability score. Roll 1d6 on the following table.

Special: A target of this ability recovers one less point of ability damage per day (to a minimum of zero) to the afflicted ability score than he would normally.

Benefit: When you drop below 0 HP, you may expend one a use of a spell like ability granted by your Dragonmark. When you do, you heal an amount of Hit Points equal to three times the Spell Like Ability's level. Using this ability is a free action that can be taken when it is not your turn, and even while unconscious or otherwise incapable of taking an action.

How non-Siberys Dragonmarks work is that you take the Least version, then Lesser, then Greater, each time as a feat. Each has the previous as a prerequisite. Each feat gives you additional SLAs, on top of the previous ones (not in place of them). If/when you take the higher-level feat, the RAW feat language states that your "caster level for your dragonmark spell-like abilities increases to 6 + your level in the dragonmark heir prestige class (if any)." So, yes, taking a higher-level Dragonmark feat causes your CL to "evolve," if that's what you mean.

I like it :smallsmile: Actually, I might use it in the campaign I DM. There's a large trade city in the far South ruled by a few clans of merchants, each having a place in the city council. Membership of a clan (it's not strictly family, there're some honorary members) is symbolized by a tattoo. Refluffing Dragonmarks as these tattoos and making them ritual could add some spice to it. This thread just gave me the idea.
