View Full Version : Optimization Any classes that gain spells/powers the way an Ardent does?

I'm looking for any sort of spellcaster/psionic (or similar) class that has a mechanic similar to Ardent when it comes to learning new spells/powers.

To explain a bit, when an Ardent learns a power, it isn't a power of a set level. It's only limited by how high of a level of power the ardent could manifest (which in turn is limited by his manifester level, which governs how many points he can spend on a power).

So for instance an ardent with 4 levels in another class, but who has the practiced manifester feat, can learn higher level powers than for instance a psion, whose maximum power level is stipulated by class levels.

So ya, is there any other class (or prc) in 3.5 that has a similar mechanic to the ardent in this regard? Thanks to anyone who can help.

With some finagling, Beguilers, Dread Necromancers, and Warmages might be able to pull of something like that.

At the simple, no. Ardent's is unique which IMHO is part of its charm. Also, IIRC, the designers had not meant for the Ardent to be that cool, but what do I care? It is that cool.

Tome of Battle's initiators work sort of like that -- every non-initiator class level gives you +0.5 to your initiator level, and it's your initiator level that determines what level maneuvers you can choose. That's not exactly spellcasting though.
