the cleric spell "magic weapon" gives a +1 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls, but an enhancement bonus does not stack with the a masterwork weapon's +1 bonus on attack rolls, so if you have - for example - a +2 magic bow adn you cast "magic weapon" on it, does it become +3 for attack and damage?

thanks

Nope. Enhancement bonuses do not stack. You only take the greatest one.

No enhancement bonuses do not stack. It can be argued that you could gain a beneftit from a magic weapon spell on a defending weapon though.

Not that it CAN be argued. It just IS.

If you have a +1 defending longsword, apply an oil of Greater Magic Weapon +5, you can defend for 5 points off it.

yeah, but it still doesn't stack - it just overlaps. I think the same would be true to make a +1 flaming longsword into a +5 flaming longsword (temporarily). It doesn't really have anything to do with the 'defending' enchantment - that enchantment just has other ways it can use the enhancement bonus granted...
