View Full Version : Pathfinder Conceptualizing dangerous minions

I really like the notion that swarming enemies can become dangerous easily. And while I don't want actual swarm rules on play I do want kind of glass cannon minions that can take the hurt out on my PCs (beginning on 3 up to I think 10 or 11) with good tohit modifiers (I'm talking about starting with +10 just for AC to still matter) and good damage. If they die in one hit, that's not a problem (they just shouldn't die from a 1d3 cantrip).

I need three categories of minions:

1) Marines/Sailors

2) Cultists of the Dark Tapestry

3) Smaller Aberrations.

The party consists of a Shadow Caller Summoner, a Freebooter Ranger, a Wind Oracle, A Dervish Bard and a Magus. I already think about the cultists focussing on controlling the eidolon, some homebrew Aberrations with Electricity resistance and marine commandos that really work together (aid another, teamwork feats etc).

At the risk of tooting my own horn, this (http://theirongolem.com/2014/11/11/pathfinder-minions/) might be useful to you.

If you want sailors to work well together, get a group of low level (2 or 3) rogues. Their sneak attack will work if they can get flanking, and if you take the pirate (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/rogue/archetypes/paizo---rogue-archetypes/pirate) archetype they can really maneuver around on a boat or similar setting. Give them decent dex for both AC and to hit with a finesse weapon, and dex to damage if they are unchained. Their various shortblades can just use short sword statistics, and you can have them 2 hand if you want.

If the cultists need mind control, that is probably going to require a caster level or 2. Murderous command, command, and forbid action are all 1st level spells for divine casters. Low level clerics or oracles could spam these, and then use channeled neg energy/inflict light wounds as a way to spam damage and either bypass AC, or hit touch.

Would you consider oozes instead of abberations? They are in a similar vein, and certainly a glass cannon type of enemy. A lot of tar jellies (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/oozes/jelly-tar) or slime molds (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/oozes/mold-slime) would be something that could ambush the party, or swarm a room. They don't hit as hard, but oozes generally have secondary effects from their hits like poison, acid, disease, grab, stun, etc. You can add elec resistance or immunity by fluffing them to be made of rubber(and add a bouncy effect perhaps).
