Just curious, as a DM, how would you price the following item:

Give a spontaneous caster a bonus (predetermined) spell known, one each of level 1 through 9, with spells already being set in the item.

Would you price it as:

A.) 9x Knowstones (i.e. 1x 1st, 1x2nd etc.) or...

B.) As a feat (similar to the Bloodline feats in Dragon Compendium)

I know there's no RAW on this, just looking for thoughts.

Prolly as 9 knowstones: feat price assessment is tricky. but if it is a mcguff why bother pricing it?

Just in case players do something crazy and sell it :smalltongue:

If they do you could have the NPC say they've never seen anything like it (prereq of a mcguffin) so they have no idea what it would be worth.

If you do really need a price I agree with the 9 know stones assessment.

It sounds to me to be more like a custom runestaff, with more spell levels than average, but with a reduced number of castings. The pricing rules for that would be right in the MIC.

I'm typing on a phone here, but here's a link to a discussion on runestaff pricing:
