Hey all,

Looking for a monster with a low movement rate (0 if possible). Must be aberration, dragon, fey, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, outsider, or undead.

The lower the CR, the better. CR 8 or less ideally.

Can use Flaws, Traits etc. to lower movement if required.

Cheers - T

How about a homebrew flaw? Maybe something along the lines of "quadruple amputee." In all seriousness though, the only creatures with a speed of 0ft that I can think of are plants.

slow flaw

add as desired

I've used the slow flaw on a very rounded wizard to great roleplaying effect

Anthromorphic bat with its wings clipped?

Use a slowing flaw/trait/whatever on a prismatic roper, ether scarab, or mimic (which all have speed 10 and no swim/climb/burrow/etc.)? Of those, mimic probably makes the most sense in terms of being able to survive while immobile--depending of course on what you're using this for.

That won't work, the slow trait and the slow flaw both say "You must have a base land speed of at least 20 feet to select this trait."

Does it need to be no movement rate creature, or a no movement rate encounter? Simply having something chained up might be good enough for your purposes. At the top end of this you could have a creature with binding cast on it, with a creature in a forcecage in between. A young blue dragon has a 6d8 breath weapon and is CR 7, and can hide. For giggles, make it a blackmailed bronze, as it is quite obviously a captive.

What about a creature cursed to always produce solid fog?

As has been said, plants sound like they would be a good start, but even they tend to move as fast as dwarves! I think this might have to be a homebrew one. Possibly a construct?

Living Wall - Dragon 343 pg 49 (Undead with 0ft, comes in CR 4, 6 and 8 variations)
Gelatinous Cube - Monster Manual I pg 201 (Ooze with 15ft, CR 3, among other oozes with differing speeds/CR)
Walls/Floors of Flesh - Dungeonscape Pg21/23 (The dungeon itself attacking a player)
Mimic - Monster Manual I pg186 (Aberration with 10ft, CR 4 (has smaller/bigger versions around somewhere))

1) Number of monsters in the game have only Fly speed - such as Arrowhawk (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/arrowhawk.htm), Lantern Archon (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/archon.htm#lanternArchon), Vargouille (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/vargouille.htm), or Will-O’-Wisp (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/willOWisp.htm). Apply Mineral Warrior (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e) template to any of them - and they will lose any movement

2) Similarly to #1, number of creatures have only Swim speed; slap on them some Undead template, and place them inland

3) Petitioner (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/divine/divineMinions.htm#creatingaPetitioner) template will change type to Outsider, and set CR to 1; there are such creatures as Formian Queen (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/formian.htm#queen), Shrieker (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/fungus.htm#shrieker), and Udoroot (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/monsters/udoroot.htm)... :smallwink:

Mimic is looking promising!

Aren't there some variants Mimics around, or am I thinking of 2E?

They are hidden away in the books but I have used 3 versions of Mimics, the normal one at CR 4, a Large one at CR 8 and a weakened one which I think was CR 2.
There should be homebrew Mimics around as well and not all of them are terrible.

It can't be a plant or ooze? Lots of those are slow.

It can't be a plant or ooze? Lots of those are slow. How about a Half-Dragon version of a plant or ooze? That'd cover the creature type, though it'd give a flight speed of double whatever the low starting land speed was for large creatures.

Just apply Mineral Warrior to take care of that later.
