Well, seeing as it's all the rage these days, I thought I take a crack at recreating the fighter. So here it is, Fighter 2.0.
Note: I didn't put the extra attacks in for the Base Attack Bonus progression because I'm lazy, and I figured everyone would figure it out anyways.


Fighter 2.0
Hit Die: d10
Base Attack Bonus: Equal to fighter 2.0 levels
Saves: Fortitude and Reflex high, Will low
Skill Points: 4+Int Mod
Class Skills
Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Heal (Wis), Intimidate (Cha/Str), Knowledge (Dungeoneering) (Int), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex), Search (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex), Use Rope (Dex)


Class Features
Weapon/Armor Prof.
Fighter 2.0 is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, and with light, medium, and heavy armors and shields.
Bonus Feats
Bonus feats are drawn from the standard fighter list.
Honed Reflexes
Fighter 2.0 gains a dodge bonus to AC equal to 1/4 his level (round up, minimum +1).
Uncanny Dodge; Improved Uncanny Dodge
As PHB Barbarian.

Heh, he. It certainly is all the rage (I can confirm that I am also working on my own version).

So, no Specialisation, Less Bonus Fighter Feats and delayed Heavy Armour Proficiency in return for more Skill Points, Class Skills, Good Reflex Saving Throw and some Dodging Goodness.

Looks okay to me as a variant, but it doesn't really solve any of the Fighter's perceived problems.

Honed Reflexes should almost certainly be rounded up, or you end up with this progression:

01-07: +1
08-11: +2
12-15: +3
16-19: +4
20: +5

...better if it works like this, I think:

01-04: +1
05-08: +2
09-12: +3
13-16: +4
17-20: +5

An idea I had for a fighter variant was entailing the weapon style feats from Complete warrior. maybe chosing a fighting style at third level and gaining new tricks so many levels using those weapons?

It still doesn't address the core issue, which is that a high-level wizard can render an equal-level fighter redundant, a high-CR monster (see Balor for the classic example) can render it useless, and an equal-level cleric or druid can go into Zilla mode and outdo the fighter at what he does best.

You shall burn!!!

It doesn't address the mobility and "can't do jack 'cept fight" issues the fighter class has like others haves said.

Alright, blasphemy aside, I've got some more ideas to put to this project, but first, sleep and meeting family members, so I'll get to the crunch later.
