View Full Version : How would a high level Athasian Preserver react to our world?

Seeing as how high level wizards in these what if threads are pretty generic, let's go with something a bit more specific. Let's say a snapshot of them if they came over at level 6, 12, and 18, as well as how an Avangion(Preserver 20//Psion 20, right?) either partway or fully through the transformation process would proceed.

Would it matter what the other side of the gestalt was? (Athasian PCs are all gestalt, right?)

At our current amount of biosphere, would they care about any of it being destroyed? Would our world cause them to spontaneously decide to be Defilers instead?

For bonus points, what about an Athasian Druid at those levels?

Athasians are not gestalt by default (or at all, really), unless they did something weird in 4e and on. Dragons and avangions were dual-classed, not gestalt.
Everybody - defiler, preserver or druid - would be in awe at the amount of water we have and the amount of green. Druids and preservers would still not like nature being ruined but might be less strict about it than they were back home - there is still a ridiculous amount of life compared to what they are used to even if it is being used. I seriously doubt they would turn to defiling because that would just turn Earth into a wasteland like Athas before long.
Druids would probably find a nice piece of wilderness and try to protect it, just like on Athas.

Preserver, I would say maybe he would continue striving to protect it in his own way. same for the druid.

If it was a defiler, I would say he would devour this world and squeeze every last bit out of it like wringing a lemon dry. I mean, maybe even become a dragon. Many people die all across the world. Find some part of the world nobody gives much care to, say parts of the Middle East or even Africa. Begin process to become a dragon, devour their life forces and poof, magic dragon.

After that suck this world dry. If the defiler was quiet and not declaring himself, most people would think the degradation came from global warming. After a while, the world would reach a tipping point and try to find the cause, though if the defiler is smart (if reached dragon form, then yes supra genius smart) our little blue world would turn dusty brown. In the end, we would all be dead and the dragon would maybe move on? Though that is another tale for perhaps another thread.
