View Full Version : The Brick Awards: The Best of the Worst Tournament #631-660

About 2 years ago, a great forumite named Porthos created an OOTS voting contest (based on a much shorter lived, but equally fantastic, previous version) which had forum goers vote on the best OOTS strips of all time. It was an impressive contest which went on for over 2 years (and only ended, or went on hiatus, due to running out of strips) and will undoubtedly be remembered in this forum as one of the most well-run ongoing threads on here.

This is not that contest. This is a shameless mockery of that contest.

Welcome to The Brick Awards, the Best of the Worst Tournament!

The Stick Awards were handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders. However, when voting for the Stick awards, some strips felt left out, abused, unloved. Whether they simply were a weak strip, or a decent strip surrounded by amazing strips, for whatever reason some strips just didn't get any votes. :smallfrown:

So this contest is designed to give those strips the morale boost they need and deserve! I am collecting all the strips which received zero votes in the Stick awards and presenting them in groups of ten (Or, at least close to ten, since I don't want to cut off in the middle of a group of strips). We will then vote as to which is our favorite of the worst strips so we can finally decide which the best worst strip is!

(And let's be honest, even the worst OOTS strips are still pretty good and deserve our appreciation!)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten nine listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting will last until Tuesday, April 12 at 10AM (MT). Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Therkla's Choice ended in tragedy when http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/redxiv/therkla.gif 592 Stuck in the Middle (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0592.html) was our winner last week.

I'll go for 647, I think. The line "Somewhere, deep inside you, there's a chin yearning to break free" makes me chuckle, perhaps especially so due to the fact I'm bearded. :smallwink:

Strong batch, since pretty much every page of Darth Vaarsuvius is exciting. I'll go for 655, one of O'Chul's finer moments.

Man, these Bricks just keep getting better and better. Most of them could easily beat out any ten from the first book.

I suspect that even some of the really good ones may become ultra-bricks, though, because a couple, like 658: A Bird in Hand are just so darn spectacular. A real shame, if you ask me.

I'm gonna have to roll with 658 as well.

Ouch, this one is tough. It has a lot of my favorite strips (though my absolute favorite, 657, was skipped over due to getting votes last time around).
I'll go with 658, though I do like 631 for the line about V's children being adopted. I also liked the "typical wild imaginings" line in 632...and, well, all of these:smalleek:

I'm going with 632 as the formal intro of the IFCC - (the business cards and disclaimer didn't hurt either).

Really strong batch here.

As I read through these, I got to 655 and thought: This is the best strip, nothing's beating this, it's the best, most intense, most awesome strip in these Brick Awards, nothing's even getting close to 655... I was wrong. 658

Darth V vs. Xykon is my favourite part of the comic so far, even though it didn't involve Belkar, it's just so epic! There's no better word for it, and 659 is probably my favourite strip.

Really strong batch, a lot of good ones.

My favourites here are 631 (Pre-approval and Kubota's rejections), 647 (I like your hair, Mass cure light wounds, Wind Walk, Neutralize Poison, a chin yearning to break free), 658 (pop!).

My pick is mandatorily 655. O-Chul is so awesome. No more lich, then.

So many good strips. Everything from Darth V to the end of DStP was pretty much solid gold, and it says a lot about the strips that actually GOT votes last time that so many quality strips ended up here. Let's right some injustices.

To that end, I'll be throwing my vote to a strip that's yet to get recognition here: 636. Because, really, what drives home exactly how powerful V got from the splice than utterly vapourizing the very thing that got him stomped mere pages ago?

Since 655 and 658 were so well picked, I'll go with the one that tied with those in my mind - 641. That one always messed me up. The IFCC gave V a way to stop being Darth V, but this is where V ultimately got shocked into reality. 642 is the more powerful half of these, but those two really mess with my mind.

I'd like to take up the cudgels for 637 - particularly for the imp (and also for the Blood Plasma pun)...

I'll go with #655. I think it's pretty clear what strips took most of the vote for this time around.

Tough one. I've always really liked that Disjunction effect in #636 and I understand why #658's getting a lot of love, but I'm going to have to vote for #655 - With a Critical Eye. O-Chul tanking that disintegrate rocks so hard.

#658 is good, and probably deserves the award (this forum LOVES Blackwing), but I'm still giving my vote to #655. I <3 O'Chul

Ultra brick: 656

:vaarsuvius: 658 Bird in the Hand (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0658.html) is our winner this week

That's too bad about 656. Didn't deserve to be an ultra-brick, at all. :smallfrown:

As for the winning strip's title, I believe it's A bird in hand (Batman reference I suppose).

It needs fixing in the new thread too.
