Actually, Miko is projected by Rich to pop up at intervals throughout the storyline, so it seems very likely she will be raised in the moderately near future. Of course, she might equally well suffer subsequent permadeath.

I can't rule out the possibility, but Rich has inserted several points of resemblance into OotS which he insists are purely accidental. Miko/Miho, Miyazaki/Studio ghibli, Elan/Guybrush Threepwood, etc. etc. I spotted one or two in Firefly myself. If you obsess long enough, it's not too difficult.

Or so my shrinks keep telling me. They will all suffer.

What is Miko sorry about? She dies knowing things did not work out, but able to think she did the best she could under the circumstances. We see no sign she wants to be anyone else, and little enough that she wishes she had not been born.

That she deems herself special is clear enough, but that is about it for a resemblance.
