I've just learned the glorious joy of webs from spiders! Entangled is effectively +2 to hit for summoned creatures, flanking is another +2hit, and augment summoning is an additional +2 to hit for a grand total of +6 to hit, which actually makes most summon monster creatures able to land hits on most monsters half the time!

So with my unconventional malconvoker build, I need...
Summon Monster III to last me for levels 6-9.
Summon Monster IV needs to last me for levels 10-11

And then its standard sorcerer malconvoker progression form then on (which is proven to work), and I know summon monster IV will work because fiendish dire wolves are that good.

So for you experienced summoners out there, my question is, can summon monster III last me for levels 6-9? Or will it turn me into a dead weight character for levels 8-9?

It depends on the summoning feats that you have.

Fiendish Summoning Specialist can give you some crazy summons; check out the Summoner's Guide to the Lower Planes.

A sandshaper dip can also give you Summon Desert Ally for those levels, if you need it.

Assume no other buffs to summon monster III other than beckon the frozen and augment summoning.

yes. For most people that would be fine and you could use SMIII all the way to 20, but specifically for you, I doubt its good enough to use at first level let alone levels 6 through 9.

9 is probably pushing it but 6,7, and 8 should be okay. SM 4 is where the good stuff comes online. It'll be useful throughout your career because mephits exist.

Thanks, just what I was looking for.

Might wanna take another look at what that spell really does, cause it's horrible (the template is garbage and the critters you apply it to are sub-par to begin with). A shame since I love the idea of it.

That is not their name :smallfurious: They are known as flying monkeys :smallwink: ...

flying outsider monkeys that originate from the various elemental planes.
