Quick question regarding my arcane tradition. I chose my school, being the school of evocation, and was wondering...when I chose my spells ....do they have to be ones that are evocation spells? Or am I able to chose spells from other arcane schools as well?
Thanks!

You can pick whatever spells you want. Evocation gives you a discount on copying evocation spells you find in scrolls/books.

Which means there is actually less incentive to pick spells from your own school if they don't synergize with class features.

I have read this before, but am not sure if I am fully understanding what mechanics lead to this result. Can you elaborate on this?

It's a minor thing, but since it takes less gold to copy spells of your school, it saves money to only pick spells from other schools.

Because when you pick spells as you level, they just appear in your book. Any spell you pick is essentially free. If you buy or find scrolls from your arcane tradition, you can then add them at half the price and time as you can any other spell.

I think that's what they mean.

The risk you take is that your DM doesn't then provide evocation spells in the world for you to find.

So, you end up that you're an evocation specialist with no evocation spells...
