I was recently reading through the SRD for 3.5, and became interested in both the Ape Totem Barbarian variant and the Jungle Goblin Variant. Both of these grant a climb speed, with Jungle Goblin's possessing a natural Climb speed of 20 feet and the Ape Totem Barbarian granting a climb speed of one-half base land speed rounded down to the nearest five foot interval. At fifth level, the ATB climb speed is equal to your base land speed. What I'm wondering is if, as in the case of the Jungle Goblin, you already possess a climb speed, does the ATB grant a bonus to that movement speed? If so, does that mean it increases by your base land speed at fifth level, rather than too?

No

Gaining a speed does not act like a bonus if you already had that kind of speed. Instead only the faster applies(unless there is a qualitative difference in which case choose which one to use each time)

You use whichever speed is higher. However, it is unlikely that a jungle goblin would take the ape totem, as it is redundant for them.
