I've been a big fan of OotS for quite some time now, but there just isn't enough new material to keep me satisfied. Does anybody know of some other solid webcomics?

COMMISSIONED (http://www.commissionedcomic.com) is really good...he does every day but Sunday. Really nice guy, love to speak with him.

M3g4Tokyo (http://www.megatokyo.com) is probably the most popular comic

I'm not gonna mention mine because it's on hiatus til I catch up with my life.

8-Bit Theatre (Nuklearpower.com) has a lot of he same awesomeness. It consists of an evil adventuring party destined to save the world. One of the characters, Red Mage, loves D&D, so there's a fair amount of D&D humor in it.

Not quite. (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=6m&size=medium&y=t&url=www. penny-arcade.com/#top) And there's probably some comic that's more popular than PA somewhere.

Anyway, I read PA, Achewood, and Goblins in addition to OotS. I used to read Ctrl-Alt-Del, but it lost all semblance of humor about last June.

I quite like Schlock Mercenary (http://www.schlockmercenary.com/). Sci-Fi rather than fantasy, but he's done a strip every day since 12 June 2000, so there is a LOT to read.

It's also quite interesting watching the artwork improve over time.

Bobandgeorge.com (The comic that inspired 8-bit Theatre)
Errantstory.com (A slightly satirical take on Fantasy but well written nonetheless)

Vanvonhunter.com (HILARIOUS, he is the hunter of evil... stuff...)

Ctrlaltdel-online.com (Another gaming comic)

VGcats.com (Another gaming comic)

Elfonlyinn.net (The guy stopped updating but it's still a good read...)

Already been mentioned, but Schlock Mercenary is indeed a good comic strip. It, along with Nerdcore, Shortpacked, and Antihero For Hire (and OotS!) round out my list of favorites at the moment.

Goblins:thunt.comicgen.com.
It has an amazing artist, but it only updates once a month.
Neko the Kitty:www.nekothekitty.net
Really funny comic, sometimes updates once/second sometimes once/year. Depends if the artist is alive/not replaced yet/on serious drugs.

Casey and Andy, http://www.galactanet.com/comic , is an amusing comic featuring a pair of mad scientists.

Irregular Webcomic, http://www.irregularwebcomic.net ,is a Lego comic that has much of the same spirit about it as OOTS. Takes about fifty or so strips to really get underway, though.

Whatever. I've spoken to Tim several times. I've had nothing but good experiences with him and I think his comic is hillarious. He never bashes other webcomics on his site like I've seen some of the others (aka penny-arcade) do.

He just does his thing. If people don't like it, so be it. But what he does is done well.

Ahh, Goblins, yes. But it updates once a week. Every Saturday, to be precise. I suppose you mean once a month as humor, but I just don't want people to miss it, cause month is not exaggerated enough to sound like you don't mean it.

Log on to World of Warcraft's Dark Iron server and ask the fan-guild he started (The Rapscallions) just how nice a guy he is. Their answers should be quite illuminating.

I swear, I don't understand why the guy still has fans, the way he treats them.

You asked for it. Time to share the addiction:

PAWN
EDIT: As with Ghastly's comic, I removed the link. You can Google for it, and it isn't as bad as Ghastly, but still... I hope no one got eyeburns or anyhting.
A fantastic "dungeon crawl", with a "slight" erotic twist. The artist's Elfwood page is also well worth cheking - especially the picture series about the nage-creature. The Thousand Souls... I'd SO want to play on a RP campaign made by a master like that!

Goblins
thunt.comicgen.com
You know how NPCs in OOTS somehow act up. This is about NPCs living their life. 1/week, and awesome, although not always humorous. Also, a warning: it can be extremely brutal at times.

Anywhere but here
www.abh-comic.com
A webcomic about a lonely guy in the middle of nowhere. He likes Jazz. No fantasy, nothing fantastic - just pure, beautiful life. It updates regularly, probably 1/day or 5/week or something.

Ghastly's Ghastly Comic
Beware. Really, if you didn't get why schoolgirls bound with rope are hidden near a hentai store, you don't want to be anywhere near Ghastly. Even if you do, you need to be a strange person.

Life on Forbez
cdc.comicgen.com
A good comic. Life on weird Sci-Fi world. Good read, but updates irregularly. As an example, the author hopes to finish the current storyline (~50 pages) before 2007.

Girl Genius
www.girlgeniusonline.com
You can buy it from a comic shop. They are out of print, though. A new page is also uploaded every M/W/F, for free. The 101 Advanced is the new series. The comics are published there before they are printed! I think... Doesn't matter for me, as I'm waiting for the current storyline to catch up with the beginning of 101 first-

Dominic Deegan
www.dominic-deegan.com
Already mentioned. Being a Seer has never been this annoying. Having Foresight has never been this useful. Being a Prophet has never been this cool. It also has puns. Mmm, puns.

PVPonline
www.pvponline.com
Already mentioned. Office/gamer/nerd humour, interesting cast, hasn't been that juicy lately. Might be just me, as I've lately been quite tired.

B-Movie Comic
www.bmoviecomic.com
It's cool, in a wierd way. You have to read the author's comments to get most of it, but it's quite cool. I think it updates on Thursdays.

Seraph Inn
www-seraph-inn.com
AMAZING quality. Really, the water, the hair, faces... And the artist is improving all the time. One or two updates a week, very update brings a few pages (A4). The story is also quite good, but I'm not sure if it would be as captivating without such exceptional art.

Two Evil Scientists
Can't remember the address, won't bother digging it up.
Sprite comic. Mixes megaman, sonic, their enemies, their friends, and occassional visitors into a strange blend. Interesting humour. Worked quite well even if I haven't played the games.

Before you ask:
No, I don't have life. The school is draining it out. However, I have a friend who must read a couple new webcomics (archives, atleast) a week. As in, every week. Now he's strange.

Dinosaur Comics is my favourite along with OotS. I also follow The Perry Bible Fellowship, Whispered Apologies and Boy on a Stick and Slither, and there are many more excellent ones out there I usually don't have time for, like Overcompensating. And quite a number of bland ones too, he added Sturgeonically.

I know I've mentioned it before, but seeing as you've asked…

I will admit to bias as I know the artist, but I really enjoy http://heroesoflesserearth.com/. It's a fantasy/adventure comic that's just now really starting to pick up steam after having been online for about a month and a half. (I only say this because the comic seems to be getting a lot funnier now that I'm getting to know the characters better.) Full page, and updates twice a week religiously.

Another comic I like is http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/. It's cute and irreverent, though more slice o' life than anything really game-related. (One word of warning—do NOT mention her spelling! Read her FAQ for a humorous commentary on it.) Single panel and strips, updates most every day.

Goblins:thunt.comicgen.com.

Goblins is updated every weekend
Since each one is on avg, 3-4 pages long with 16-20 squares on each page, there is a lot of work behind it.

its about the monsters players hunt and thier view point on things.

He dissolved it without telling anyone and it's the second time he's done something like that.

Before he dissolved it, he yelled at them for "making him look bad", then just started kicking people. Deleted their forums, deleted threads in the CAD forums asking what was going on, and tried to pretend it never happened. It left a lot of upset people wondering what the heck happened.

I mean, he started the guild. He asked them to come play WoW with him. It was his idea (as much as anything is ever his idea, given that he was still copying PVP and Penny Arcade). And then he got tired of the game, and just kicked people because he didn't want a CAD-guild around that he wasn't part of.

And that's a terrible way to treat your fans.

Freeman333
2006-02-10, 05:29 PM
I'm not a CAD fan (never read it) but as this is a thread about which webcomics you think are good, rather than which ones are written by people you dislike, I ask that you take that debate to a more appropriate (www.checkerboardnightmare.com) place (www.websnark.com). Thanks.

Anyway, back on topic--sort of--people on the Truth and Beauty Bombs (www.truthandbeautybombs.com) messageboards have recently started a project wherein they remove the animal dialogue from Garfield (www.garfield.com) comic strips, leaving (usually) only Jon's dialogue to himself. This results in strips that are both hilariously funny and painfully sad, as well as occasionally strikingly profound. Sadly the board seems to have been taken down since this morning, but perhaps it will come back up again. My favorite was the one where Jon, standing over Garfield lying asleep on the table, says in the first panel, "You can't do anything about the past." Then in the second panel, looking somewhat surprised and astonished, he says, "But you CAN do something about the FUTURE!" And the third panel is just Garfield lying silently on the table, implying that Jon has gone to do something meaningful and Garfield is still sitting there doing nothing. This is, I imagine, a HELL of a lot more profound than the original comic would have been.

I second (or third) the recommendation for Irregular Webcomic.

It's my second-favourite comic (OotS being first), my very favourite by a compatriot of mine (I swear, David Morgan-Mar is the cleverest and funniest guy in the whole of Aus), and includes my favourite single episode of a webcomic.

OotS has lots of "that's really good" moments, but for someone with my particular brand of geekiness, nothing beats this ep. of Irregular Webcomic:

Ep. 954 (http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/954.html)

(If this doesn't make you ROTFL, well, that shows that you aren't me. Better luck next time ;))

Aladdar

So he's copying Penny Arcade because he did a comic about gamers? I could care less about WOW, I don't play the game and MMORPGS have caused more than their fair share of problems for people so I can't comment on that without knowing that situation. I can only comment on my encounters.

The fact is, his comic is hillarious (much funnier than I've ever found Penny Arcade). But I'm going to let it go, I'm no personal friend of him. Just a fan who's had great experiences with his work and my few interactions.

Well, nobody has mentioned two of my favorites, but that might mean I'm a different brand of dork than anyone else.

Regardless, Secret of Mana Theater (http://www.manatheater.com) is just great, although currently on hiatus. Being a flash/sprite comic, its quite different, and the author is a really nice guy. There's a big, big archive, and the production value of the comic has skyrocketed since it started.

Its difficult to bring up Mana Theater without mentioning its sister comic, 9th Elsewhere (http://www.9thelsewhere.com/). Super well drawn and really imaginative stuff.

Good stuff. Check 'em out, yo!

While it's not strictly a webcomic, Sheldon (http://www.comics.com/comics/sheldon/index.html)
is quite funny, and sometimes hysterical. (He can even make those tired old Chuck Norris jokes funny.) I only discovered it after the artist joined Blank Label Comics.
Piled Higher and Deeper (http://www.phdcomics.com) is one that I believe was linked on this board a while ago. If you're in academics, it's hysterical.

Pretty much all of the ones I like have all been mentioned, except DNDorks, which is another funny D&D comic.

As to CAD, I could honestly care less about how much of a jerk the writer is, his comic is still funny. And since that's the only piece of his work I ever read, I'll continue reading it. It's funny, and while PA is just as funny, CAD has actual plot lines, which makes it a definate swithc-up from a lot of gaming comics.
