View Full Version : The dilemma of the Cthulu monk.

So out of the many builds I have brought up, the Cthulu monk(2 warlock/ rest shadow monk) seems the most entertaining, but it have one problem that is kind of annoying, not proficient in CON saves from any of the classes before monk level 14, so what I ponder is: is resilient CON worth it to make sure you do not loose concentration on hex too easily and/or is war caster enough to bridge the gap, just feels wasteful that half of the resilient feat gets "wasted" later in the build. :)

So do you guys think resilient is still worth it?

Not worth it.

It's okay to sometimes lose concentration on a spell.

Thanks thought so too but wanted some opinions, better to just pump AC with WIS and DEX then. Prob won't get hit that much when fighting in darkness with Devils sight anyways. :)

Alert, Mobile, and maxing out Wis/Dex while still having enough Cha to multiclass will definitely eat up all of your ASI's. You won't really have room for Resilient Con imo.

Why mobile? Does a monk really need 10 ft more movement?

The extra movement is nice, but it's more about the free disengage that's part of the Mobile feat. It also allows you to run through a mob of bad's directly to a big bad w/o incurring the opportunity attacks as long as you spare one attack at them first.

The answer to your question completely depends on whether (and if yes, how long it will take) your campaign to reach level 16 (Warlock 2/Monk 14). If you won't be getting that far, then it's not too bad of an idea.

A better use of the feat would be to pickup Resiliency (Wisdom) because Wisdom is both more useful for a Monk and because Monks are extremely susceptible to control spells.

Got WIS save prof thanks to taking first level as warlock. :)

Gotcha. Evasion comes online at least decently soon enough so not have proficiency in Dex saves isn't too bad for you.

But the question still remains, if you're going to be waiting 6 months to hit to level 16, you should 100% take Res (Con) if only to avoid the particularly nasty effects failing a Con save can bring, and also concentration.

Resilient (CON) is worth it. We're not just talking about concentration, but also any CON save, which can take out of the fight completely (poisons, necrotic effects, Blindness, curses, etc.). And that also comes with an ability point attached.

how did you get the Wis save proficiency? multiclass rules states that you don't get the new multiclass saves only some of the weapon and armor proeficiencies.

He started as a Warlock, not a Monk.

Sure it's no problem to lose concentration sometimes. But to loose it?

What if it gets all over the floor? Attacks the village? Splashes on the rouge?

Two much?

Key point: Mobile is not a Disengage. It only prevents the opportunity attacks from those you have attacked. If you can make it through the mob with only one OA threat, then own attack is all you need. Otherwise, you have to reserve an attack for each threat.

Loosen, you creature of loose spelling!
