Did a quick Google search to see if the thread was posted, but since it hasn't...

This shouldn't be anything bad, but more of an interesting trend - the Hypertext d20 SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm) (which contains all of the 3.5 SRD rules) seems to be under new administration - its former owner apparently has...what, sold it? Given it? Made a deal with? Anyways, the new holders of the site seem to renovate the old site, since there's new content coming soon (in particular, new tools for the GM, and note that it says Game Master's Tools rather than DM's Tools), which should be good. Feel kinda sad for the original owner since there's no acknowledging of all of his work (though he seems to still be working under the new management?).

The site also has a Facebook page now (https://www.facebook.com/d20srd/), if you're interested in being connected for any updates to the site.

What do you think about the change? Feel it's good or bad for the site? At least they seem to wish keeping the site afloat and support it, which is good, but still skeptic about it.

I'm glad - the site's been static for years now, and a breath of fresh life is much appreciated. The new generators seem like they'll be useful, and I anticipate using most of them in my games.

Actually there was a thread about this over in the Roleplaying Games forum:
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?484608-d20srd-seems-to-have-changed-hands

At the very least I hope it means it'll stay up and active for the years to come…

Oh. Neat. I look forward to those generators, both to use them and to see their limits.

I can't help but be annoyed and amused by the people complaining about ads. They let free websites exist—otherwise, either you'd have to pay for using it or it would have to risk living on donations. Ads are a solid choice for any website, and if it's one I want to support I'd gladly look at multiple banner ads per page.

My only problem is when ads are the last thing to load on a page; far too many times I've jumped the gun in my clicking and ended up clicking the wrong link 'cause the whole page shifted down once the ad popped up. :smalltongue:

Well, I can't say I'm okay with the ads, but it seem like they're an unavoidable fact of life at this point in history.

Adblock, adblock everywhere. Even on mobiles. Though sadly it still affects the layout of the site on mobile, even if they don't show.

Anyway... since we're continuing the topic, FWIW, adressing OttoVonBigby, you can actually still download the site, you just have to do it manually; or manually automate it. For example go to a page and erase everything up to the first slash. You get presented with a plain old apache file index.
For example:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/
http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/

The site is very light(or was anyway). For someone who is in the IT business it would have been very close to a non-expense running it(of which the former owner, Jans Carton was a part of btw).
Even an outside person would have very little trouble keeping it up.

P.S.
As a side note, they're breaking site validation (https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.d20srd.org%2F;accept=te xt%2Fhtml%2Capplication%2Fxhtml%2Bxml%2Capplicatio n%2Fxml%3Bq%3D0.9%2Cimage%2Fwebp%2C%2A%2F%2A%3Bq%3 D0.8;accept-language=en-GB%2Cen%3Bq%3D0.8%2Cbg%3Bq%3D0.6).

If you don't want ads, there is an alternative: http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/resources/systems/pennpaper/dnd35/soveliorsage/home.html

This was actually the first SRD site I started using, and in some ways, I prefer the layout. In others, though, I still much prefer The Hypertext d20 SRD.

Is the site down for anyone else

I was getting messages that the site had been hacked yesterday (an animated gif and the name of the hackers), and now it seems to be down.

You can use http://dndsrd.net/home.html until they get it back up.

Please do not necro dead threads.

Also, there's another active thread on this subject already. Post in that one instead.
