I know this is old game but my friend want to create Salem Elliot in our dd 3.5. We cant decide between twf rogue/swordsage or fighter with sword and shield with rogue lvls dip. We need your help to decide how this character wouldook like. Our starting point is 5th level

Sounds like a job for Gestalt rules (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/gestaltCharacters.htm).

There's a Fighter variant that trades the Fighter's bonus feats for the Rogue's Sneak Attack.

If you go the ToB route, check out Assassin's Stance.

Have you checked out 3.P (3.Pathfinder) yet? It's basically 3.5+, and is still being updated (whenever Pathfinder recieves a new sourcebook).

If you want to go with the 3.p route, Pathfinder's Slayerhttp://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/slayer is a pretty decent 'Martial Rogue"
