Chapter 1: A New Home

About 10 miles south of the city you had spotted from the air, you spot it. The perfect home. You swoop in to stake your claim. You touch down in a small cover. Centuries of erosions by the sea had cut into the limestone, creating white sandy beaches surrounded by high rock walls. The costal entrance is guarded by stone pillars, worn smooth by the surf, and dense foliage protects the area from those who would wander in by land.

Exploring a bit more, you find a hole in the surface of part of the rockier area of the cove. Examining it closer, you realize you have found the entrance to a cave, its entrance mostly underwater. You dive and enter.

The first part of the cave, a long, wide tunnel is completely submerged. You finally surface into a cavern. It is by no means large, but it provides ample area for you, and the pair of giant lobsters which are preparing to gut you.

The gold dragon quickly assessed the situation. No point in attempting a non-violent approach with such animals. She thought has she inhaled deeply. Her chest glowed amber in color as heat radiated out from inside.

She felt the plasma build up in her throat and exhaled in a scream, drenching the area with a gout of dragonfire that scorched the sand and rock. The combination of thermal energy and dragonfear rolled off of her like waves of the ocean crashing against the shores.

The lobster claws managed to gash two noticeable wounds in Miath's flank. She roared in indignation at their attempts to treat her as some common prey animal. Lashing out furiously with fang, claw, and wing, she sought to bring down the more bold and closer of the two enemies.

Her body felt invigorated by the combat and the wounds sustained in it seemed to close as she battled with the crustaceans.

Your barrage of attacks shatter the creature's shell and carves through the soft flesh within. Horribly mangled, the lobster is just barely clinging to life.

This battle was already a forgone victory. It was a shame that these mindless animals just could not recognize it as such. It might have spared their life and offered her further protection from other creatures if they had only moved outside. It was not to be and she wiped it from her mind as the one claw snagged the flesh beneath her scales causing a rip.

These creatures would provide her with some much needed food at any rate, and maybe their shells could be traded to local humans if or when she found them. Her body was a machine of battle, the elegant gold color and sage-like whiskers did nothing to hinder her fury.

The dragon stepped closer to her remaining enemy. Their claws had left damage but it had healed so fast thanks to her divine vigor that hardly a mark remained. Her neck coiled back as her fangs were bared. The smell of ozone pervaded the small cave as bolts of static jumped between her scales and spines. The current seemed to build in her chest.

Her jaws clenched for a moment as the divine energy surged up through her neck. The ivory fangs sought to pierce the shell of the lobster to transfer all of that gathered energy into a destructive strike, similar to what she had done to the black dragon before leaving the nest.

In a flash of holy light, the lobster is no more. Or rather, what remains no longer looks like a lobster. Regardless, you are victorious.

The gold dragon took a centering breathe and calmed her heart and mind down from the rush of combat. She required a clear head in order to investigate the area.

Leaving the bodies where they were, she began to comb through the cave, looking for any hidden items of note or any locations within the cave that would make it unsuitable for a home or dangerous to her in the near future.

If none were found, Miath returned her attention to the carcasses. She knew how to eat normal lobsters and couldn't imagine these were much different. Using her fiery breathe to cook the meat in the shell, she pulled the tail apart and gorged, having not eaten in so long.

Poking through the sandy cave, you find skeletal humanoid remains. It was likely this unlucky person was a past meal of the former inhabitants of the cave. Clutched tight in a boney hand is a small leather bag. Pulling it free from it's grasp and emptying it reveals several jewels. There is nothing else noteworthy here.

The lobster tails fill your belly nicely, though they would have been better with a little butter.

Deadguy
2016-05-20, 07:31 AM
Miath examined the jewels with a narrowed eye. She sorted them by color and then picked her favorites and embedded them under her scales for safe keeping. There was much to do in order to make this place a suitable home.

Firstly, she should scout the area more fully. Especially under water out from the cove. The gold sauntered over toward the entrance of her new cave and dove out and into the lagoon, swimming gracefully as she inspected the sea bottom before heading out through the rocky inlet. Perhaps she'd get lucky and find a sunken ship to add trinkets to her new hoard.

Your dive reveals nothing out of the extraordinary. Marine life is abundant by the coast, likely more so than the open ocean which the sea floor slowly sinks into. Out about half a mile, you can see the belly of a large vessel sailing slowly towards the nearby port town. A second ship is even further off.

Deadguy
2016-05-20, 06:51 PM
Miath followed beneath the boat toward the port town. She knew enough about humans to know that she'd need to acquire clothing before using her alternate form to walk among them. She hoped for the opportunity to find something suitable from the depths.

Chapter 2: Blood in the Water

As you draw nearer to the ship you realize that it is not moving. Then you spot the flotsam surrounding the vessel, which includes a few men clinging to broken wood and kicking back towards the ship. The legs of one of the people closest to the ship disappears above the water, you assume a rope has been lowered by the sailors still aboard.

The second ship you had spotted turns, putting it on a collision course with the first boat. The wind seems to favor the attacking vessel as it builds up speed and rams it's becalmed victim. Several more sailors are bucked overboard, but they are expert seamen and are soon bobbing on the ocean's surface.

About clothing, see my last post on the ooc thread.

Deadguy
2016-05-23, 12:39 PM
The gold dragon is curious but does not want to give the sailors a scare. Transforming into her female human form, Miath swims to the surface. Pushing the long golden hair from her eyes, she watches the two ship, attempting to discern if either crew is inherently evil as she treads calmly.

The attacking vessel harbors more than a few evil souls, while none of the sailors on the defence register to you. Shortly after you break the surface, a rope is thrown to you by sailors working overtime to aid their friends.

Deadguy
2016-05-26, 07:09 AM
Miath ignored the rope and dove underwater once more. Her form changed again into the powerful dragon. Moving beneath the hull of the aggressor ship, she rent into it with claw and fang. Moving down the keel, she punched and tore holes in it's bottom before swimming deeper to the ocean floor to observe.

Eonn
2016-05-26, 10:09 AM
It only takes a few moments for the damaged ship to begin to lean heavily onto one side. You concentrate for a couple seconds, and you can again sense the evil souls aboard. They for fervorishly for a few moments to repair the damage to their ship, but abandon the effort as the vessel slips lower and lower into the water. Instead, they seem to turn their attention to the defending ship and begin to board en masse.

Deadguy
2016-05-28, 02:42 PM
As the boat listed and the men attempted to board, Miath moved toward the surface once more, assuming her human form as she breached the waves.

Swimming expertly toward the hull of the still functioning vessel, she looked for one of the ropes to pull herself up to the decks. Once aboard, she took time to take stock of the exact situation and was fully prepared to see an all out assault occurring.

Eonn
2016-05-28, 05:35 PM
A ferocious melee has broken out aboard the ship. Men in uniform defend their ship from the borders wearing ratty and weathered linens. A boisterous man in a blue jacket shout orders to the defenders as he parries and counters an attacking pirate. Another man, dressed flamboyantly, dances through the swaths of combatants, cutting defenders down with ease.

You are dress entirely different than both parties and, as of now, haven't been noticed by either.

The woman moved to pick up one of the fallen men's weapons. With it in hand, she advanced toward the man wearing bright colors as he seemed to be giving the defenders the most trouble of the group.

As she moved, she was careful to defend herself and strike down any aggressors between herself and the flamboyant man.

Your cutlass becomes bloodied on your way to the captain. The man sees your approach through the masses and greets you casually as you approach.

"Aye, lass!" He calls out, leaning heavily on his trident. "Y'know, I'd be willin' to pay fairly to get a pretty face like yours fer my crew. Even more if you can actually use that." He ends by nodding to the crimsoned piece of steel clutched in your fist.

"Push them back, support the line!" She diverted her attention for a moment toward the man in the blue jacket, spurring him to further action.

Miath took a shallow step forward and swiveled her hips for momentum. It was a heavy strike as she held the cutlass in both hands, though she held some power in reserve to ensure she didn't overextend herself.

The golden haired woman grunted as the pirate drew blood. Normally, her scales would protect her from most of those thrusts, but she dared not take that form here. She'd likely invoke an attack from the pirates and those she was trying to defend.

Her hair stands slightly from her shoulders as the air around her crackles with static. Bolts hop from her arms and down to her hands, seeming to be drawn from her and into the sword she holds. She thrust it down in a short overhead chop, releasing the energy in a massive thunderclap.

You've struggled to land a blow, but you finally manage to connect. In a flash of light, the pirate captain is hurtling across the ship before breaking through the railings and falling into the sea. Combat stops as the pirates realize how outclassed they are without their captain. Weapons clatter to the deck as they surrender. You take a few steps to where the man went overboard, hoping to confirm your victory, but find only a mass of foam bobbing on the ocean's surface.

A cheer goes up from the ship's crew after the last pirate is bound. The captain in blue seems to be pushing through the crowd to get to you. If you'd like to pull a disappearing act, now may be the time.

The golden-haired woman dropped the cutlass to the deck with a clank, it wasn't her preferred weapon in any case. A quick glance down at her wounds before turning to the captain and focused her concentration on detecting any evil presence.

If she detected none, she'd simply dip her head as a measure of respect before she dove over the rails and into the water. Once below the surface, she morphed into her true form. Making sure she was shallow enough that her blurred golden figure would be visible before diving deeper.

She circled back, looking for her enemy beneath the surface before turning her attention back to the sunken wreckage of the pirate ship. Without anyone to interfere, Miath could take her time combing through the hull to collect weapons, treasure, sail material and anything else that might add to her new lair.

Eonn

You detect no evil emanating from this man. He is taken by surprise when you choose to dive overboard, and rushes to the side of the ship only to catch a glimpse of something else moving beneath the waves.

You comb the area, searching for the remains of the pirate captain. You find no trace of him.

The first thing you see as you swim towards the sunken ship is the vessel's gilded and gem encrusted seahorse figurehead. It'll take a bit of work to free from the ship, but it's clearly worth taking with you. Despite the great first find, the rest of the ship has little. There is not much in the way of coinage at all, and most of the cargo (mostly food and water) was ruined by the seawater. Even the captain's quarters is relatively barren, as if all the pirates wealth was stashed elsewhere.

There is something that catches your eye in the captain's room. Tucked under his bunk is a iron rod, detailed with gold filigree shaped in the image of a tropical paradise. The rod gives off a faint glow. Right next to is a small waterproof chest made of steel. It is locked.

Most of the ship's weapons were carried with the crew into battle, though there is plenty of other salvage you could take.

Roll appraise for the worth of your finds, and arcana or spellcraft to learn the function of the rod.
