Roommate of mine is getting ready to run the Red Hand of Doom module for me and two of our other friends (One has played 4e d&d before but this will be her first time doing 3.5; for the other this will be his 2nd time playing a 3.5 game) in a few days and I'm trying to come up with an interesting build for a combat commander type support character. The game itself is probably going to be semi low op since of the three pc's I have the most experience for 3.5, and the dm while he likes to make things challenging is not a jerk that is actively going above and beyond the call of duty to try and kill us. Since there is only going to be three players we are planning on using gestalt characters.

My last 3-4 characters that I've played in 3.5 have all been melee tome of battle classes, or the one time I played an awakened grappling wolf warlock(side note, in gestalt awakened wolf plus grappling blast and full warlock on one side plus the celestial warlock prc on the other side is terrifying), so I'm trying to avoid playing melee if possible, and I've been for the longest time wanting to actually play a blaster mage so I know that one side of the tree is going to be 5 levels of War Mage/ 5 levels of the age of mortals PRC War Mage/ 10 levels of Incantatrix because I really want to just throw out meta magic fireballs of doom for the hell of it since the other players won't be optimized very much at all. Its the other side I'm trying to work around. Currently I've been thinking of doing 1 Marshal/1 Crusader/18 Bard so that I can help buff the party with Dragon Fire Inspiration since i'm pretty sure they'll both be martial type characters, and I'll also have bard spells to use for other buffing/out of combat type stuff; but I'm not sure if there might be any other leadery type of builds I could look at that would mesh well with a blaster mage. (Kind of don't feel like messing with druid or cleric at the moment since I'll have to book keep even more spells. Bard for the moment has a nice little list I can set off to the side since I'm mostly going to be only using the Inspire Courage feature for the most party really.

Source wise, DM allows any official 1st party content and dragon magazines, but no home brew or third party. Game rule wise, flaws are not allowed but we do gain a feat at level 1 and then every even level after. After some issues with things such as the unseelie fey template, DM has also ruled that players are not allowed to use any inherited templates on their characters. Aside from meta magic feats I'm currently looking at picking up Draconic Aura and Double Draconic Aura as well for more leadery buffing goodness. The 1 level dip in crusader is really only there to make meeting the requirements for Song of the White Raven more easily.

Aside from all that, my character itself is currently a Silverbrow Human that has 14 Str, 16 Dex, 17 Con, 18 Int, 16 Wis, and 19 Cha at level 5 with no items currently equipped. (I rolled ****ing amazingly well when I generated my stats)

so I've been going over possible build concepts today, and I've decided that instead of War Mage/Bard instead i'm going to switch my Int and Cha score around and do Evoker Specialist Wizard 5/ PRC War Mage 5/Incantatrix 10 \\either Harmonious Knight Paladin 20 or 1 Warblade/19 Harmonious Knight Paladin 19 (Taking the spell less variant so that I have less bookkeeping to do since I'm mainly using the Paladin levels for lay on hands and the special mount) so that I can still take Dragonfire Inspiration and then use From Smite to Song and Song of the Heart with Melodic Casting so that I can cast spells and buff the other two players at the same time with essentially full bard inspire courage, and possibly pick up Song of the White Raven to be able to do that as a swift action, (Not sure if it will be needed yet). Since the DM uses action points, the having to spend smite attempts to use DFI at the appropriate level should never really be an issue by the time we hit 10, unless the Harmonious Knight Substitution Levels are supposed to let inspire courage scale with paladin level, though I'm pretty sure it doesn't...

Main question I have currently is regarding the paladin mount, is it possible to make it a permanent companion or is it allowed to gain feats/take class levels since it has an intelligent score? My original idea for the character was to take the Draconic Aura feats on my main character, but if the mount was able to take those feats instead then that would be kind of awesome. Anyone know what the rulings for that are, or what kind of hoops I'd be looking at jumping through in order to do that?

combat commander type: I might suggest Bard//Crusader/Jade phoenix mage
or
Bard//Paladin of Freedom4/Crusader/RKV

About paladin mount; it doesn't get to take feats I think; but there are ways to get a draconic mount

You could try getting a cohort (wild cohort feat OR leadership or draconic cohort (it is a feat IIRC)) and having them be your mount.
