I found a really nice mapping program called AutoREALM (www.autorealm.org (http://www.autorealm.org)). It has all sorts of nifty drawing features, like fractal lines for realistic coastlines, rivers, paths, etc. There are a ton of little icons to place all over, and you can set different colors which gives it a look that I think is neat. Getting access to maps and icons, even simple ones, has always been a challenge and a barrier for me, but this has really helped and I plan to take these maps and use them as backgrounds for online DM programs (or print them for tabletop).

You can do dungeons...

You can do things with simplicity, but there's a lot of power in this little tool; so I'm passing on the word to whoever needs it.

Autorealm, which has been mentioned a number of times (we should probably add notes about these to a sticky). It is a magnificent program, if you have the patience to learn it.

This is something I've been looking for, I've been using another program, but this looks like exactly what I need. Thanks!

Here's something I cooked up in a few minutes:
Vampire Cemetery! (http://www.freewebs.com/midnightmurder/AutoREALM%20%5F%20D%5F%5Fcemetery.pdf)

AR is one of my favorite DM utilities.

Can someone explain a rosette chart? Seems like it's for navigation, but I can't find any info on it.

Nice work. I've been using AutoREALM for a little while now and am still learning how to use it to get some things down. I highly recommend it.
