PF Beast Master question

According to archetype a beast master takes an animal companion and this replaces hunters bond, but this does not specify at level 4 from prd, do they get companion at level 1?

No, it still does not give a companion till level 4 since your companion level is equal to ranger level-3, so you would not qualify till level 4. It simply gives you the ability to choose from more animals, and to have multiple companions.
