It may be a bit weird at first, but it becomes very comfortable once you get used to it. I'm using it to run a campaign with some friends because we're scattered all throughout the country and it's pretty amazing. We even use the chat to roleplay through that instead of using voice which at first was a bit weird for me at least but has lead to some very interesting RP without the need for facial expressions or specific voice tone. It may not be as useful for less imaginative players though.
