It was a long time ago, so I hope I remember the details correctly, but the plot was more or less like this:

Two inmates who were constantly tortured by one of the wardens.
One left jail and became a lawyer, while the other eventually murdered the warden.

The lawyer becomes the prosecutor in his friend's trial and while pretending to do his best, he did everything possible to fail in his task, like calling witnesses who only confirmed the warden's characteristics.

Anyone has any idea?

The movie you're looking for is "Sleepers" (1996), with Brad Pitt, Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Kevin Bacon, Jason Patrick.
