View Full Version : The Brick Awards: The Best of the Worst Tournament #841-860

About 2 years ago, a great forumite named Porthos created an OOTS voting contest (based on a much shorter lived, but equally fantastic, previous version) which had forum goers vote on the best OOTS strips of all time. It was an impressive contest which went on for over 2 years (and only ended, or went on hiatus, due to running out of strips) and will undoubtedly be remembered in this forum as one of the most well-run ongoing threads on here.

This is not that contest. This is a shameless mockery of that contest.

Welcome to The Brick Awards, the Best of the Worst Tournament!

The Stick Awards were handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders. However, when voting for the Stick awards, some strips felt left out, abused, unloved. Whether they simply were a weak strip, or a decent strip surrounded by amazing strips, for whatever reason some strips just didn't get any votes. :smallfrown:

So this contest is designed to give those strips the morale boost they need and deserve! I am collecting all the strips which received zero votes in the Stick awards and presenting them in groups of ten (Or, at least close to ten, since I don't want to cut off in the middle of a group of strips). We will then vote as to which is our favorite of the worst strips so we can finally decide which the best worst strip is!

(And let's be honest, even the worst OOTS strips are still pretty good and deserve our appreciation!)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten eleven listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting will last until Tuesday, May 24 at 10AM (MT). Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

I have a totally awesome idea! Voting for :elan: 836 Best Laid Plans (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0836.html) as our winner last week!

I missed the last thread, let not this one be wasted!

Many good strips, this time. I think i'll pick 857.

These feel pretty even to me. I'll go 844, for Haley once again explaining how to think Chaotic.

I'm going to join Killer Angel and vote for 857: The Pit of Despair, I think, due to the awesomeness of that mummy moment.

Good to know 857 is getting some much needed love this time around. I always felt that strip was woefully underrated. I'd vote for it myself, but I'm liking the odds of it running away with this one and think I'll prop up a different strip for the time being.

And really, there's some real winners in this bunch. 849 for Tarquin's Thog impression, 858 for Haley's badass use of Tarquin's arrow catching reflexes, 848 for karma...

But sometimes, you've got to work blue, and sometimes having to search a "dry crumbly assbone" is hilarious. I'd say that it's #846's time in the sun, but I think it's more "time in the moon", this time...

For some reason 845 always made me laugh far more than it probably should have.

845: the tragic loss to the field of brick comedy diminishes us all.

855 for dramatic irony while pointedly not having a cutaway panel.

Honorable mention to 848 for logical application of the concept of karma.

Dishonorable mention for 845 for setting up "The gate is between Girard's Buttcheeks", which never had any payoff. (AFAIK)

Dishonorable mention for 845 for setting up "The gate is between Girard's Buttcheeks", which never had any payoff. (AFAIK)

That's because the corpse didn't say the gate, he said Girard's rift. "Rift" in this case being an euphemism for, er, a certain anatomical feature that could be found between Girard's buttcheeks. It was nothing but a crass joke; Roy only had Haley search Girard's remains to be sure (and for the sake of another punchline).

Oh, and I'll vote for 849, for not-thog.

Some got stuff here. In the end, more Vaarsuvius character development ends up being a bit more significant than the rest. #857 gets my vote.

#844 for the oblivious Lawfuls.

845 with the ass comedy and 848 with karma misapplication are both decent.

857 is head and shoulders above the rest, though. Blackwing-V interaction is brilliant, and the mummy thing is rather great too. Plus, a LOL-worthy punchline.

858 for Haley's badass use of Tarquin's arrow catching reflexes

I agree about this too. It's a great set up for the awesome trap the Order is springing, which is a firm favorite of mine.

As nobody even cares to mourn the brief loss of the 7th member of the Order of the Stick, Yukyuk, I pay my respects with a single, solitary vote for 848.

In the touching words of Belkar Bitterleaf, to quote his eulogy, Payback's a bitch!

I love the lawful -bashing in 844, but I'm going for 848, for the karma-talk.

The voting is obviously closed, but I've been slammed the last couple days and unable to finish the results. They will be tabulated hopefully today, or tomorrow at the latest.

If I'm not mistaken, we may not have any super-bricks this time. :smalleek:

If by "none" you mean "three", then you're right! 847, 851 and 853 are all super bricks, however I'm going to go ahead and save 853 because the punchline is just slightly too funny for a super-brick.

:vaarsuvius: 857 The Pit of Despair (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0857.html) is our winner this week!

Yeah, that's what I get for posting after sleeping for 3 hours and nearly poking my eye out on the corner of a table while hauling myself out of bed...
