"We're vermin to them. We're monsters. Now we can either be alive monsters or dead monsters. You choose."
- Veradux, "Sonny".

The cultists never stood a chance.

The building was already on fire. Undoubtedly, some people would be taken down with them. Some inquisitor, Hannah, had run into the building and it seemed as though she was already unconscious. James Warden stood on one of the nearby buildings, crossbow in hand, ready to shoot anyone who fired out of the window. Mork and Xenobia were near the back door of the building, which seemed to be of fairly sturdy construction, while the front door, wide open, greeted Anvys and a standard-issue torch-wielding mob.

Hannah was almost certainly on the second floor, but the ground floor was on fire in places already. The possibility of rescuing the paladin seemed slim. A pity. Meanwhile, archers aimed out of the windows, firing into the mob.

Together, the four strongest warriors in the group - though not by a great margin - were about to see whether or not they could finish the cultists.

OOC thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?488456-Vigilante-Justice-%283-5-OOC%29&p=20790028#post20790028). Everyone roll initiative as though it were a normal roll of DC 10; if you win you go before the cultists; if you lose you go after.

James can see two archers.
Mork and Xenobia can't actually see anyone from here; they're in front of the door.
Anvys can see the same two archers as James can, and can also see that there's a dead body which once wielded a scythe on the floor. She can spot DC 10:

There's a child's dead body on the floor. He's still clutching a knife; just an ordinary kitchen one rather than a weapon. There's no blood on the knife, or the scythe.

Xenobia

With more and more smoke rising from the cultists' den, there was little time to waste. The inquisitor, Hannah, had been foolhardy to rush into the building alone, but if she still lived then Xenobia was determined to get her out. She was glad to have Mork at her side. He might never be the sharpest, but he was dependable. Glancing quickly at Mork, Xenobia nodded, implying her readiness, adding: "Ready?" then tried the door. The latch didn't budge; the door was either jammed or barred from the other side. "Blast! Well, nothing else for it." She cursed, then pulled a pry bar from her pack, planting into the slight gap between door and frame, and pried.

Xenobia will attempt to leverage open the door, and failing that, will either help Mork with the door or call out for a pry bar or something similar. If the she manages to open the door, she'll enter and take a quick look around to get her bearings and to look for a stairway up to the second floor.

Strength check to open door:
[roll0] (+2 from pry bar)

Aid another if the above check is not successful:
[roll1]

Perception check to get bearings inside if it comes up:
[roll2]

EDIT: I realize the door may not have been blocked/barred etc. but I figured I'd take one of the options and run with it.

Xenobia jammed the pry bar onto the edge of the door, and rather than opening as she might have hoped, it shattered into pieces. Not the sturdiest of constructions, apparently. Xenobia couldn't see much, but it was immediately clear that there was a group of people hiding in the corner of the room. Presumably they'd realised that she and Mork were there. Another door lay at the top of a staircase, though it wasn't clear where it led.

The room has torches for lighting, but they're all unlit. It's probably some kind of storage room from the look of it; there are barrels of something or other over the floor. The people in a corner are a woman and a group of three children. They're wearing some kind of robes; you can't tell but they might be the cult's signature garment.

You're standing in by far the strongest room in the place. The door may have been weak, but the walls seem solid; you might have punched through the ones in the rooms you saw earlier, but no chance with this one. It could resist a fire for several minutes before the interior of the room or its occupants were even in severe danger.

You think the walls may be reinforced with something stronger than wood.

Mork walks over to the hiding people. "Are you cultists?" he says. He is not happy right now. The smoke makes it hard to breathe, and he doesn't like when things are hard. But he does like that he got to go after some people today, so he's a little conflicted. Is he happy, or not happy? He also wants to beat-up cultists, but not children. He hopes the kids aren't bad guys. Gosh thinking is difficult.

One of the children, a girl of no more than eight, speaks up. "We worship the Chosen One. Why does that mean you get to burn us?"

The Chosen One is probably a human, rather than a real god. He's renowned for being a god worshiped mainly by small cults.

The Church of the Chosen One is mainly considered a harmful organisation, but many worshipers are somewhat normal, albeit secretive, people.

Noticing the particularly sturdy construction of the building, Xenobia reassesses the time they have to find Hannah. Hmm, we might have a minute or two more than I thought. Still, no time to waste, She thinks to herself.

The sound of a child's voice draws her attention, and Xenobia turns to see the small figure before Mork. No time for this, she thinks, and strides toward the girl, reaching out to grab her and lead her back to the door. "No one needs to burn; best you get outside."

Anvys registers the child on the floor, but pays it no attention as he scans the room, assessing his options, both blades at the ready.

What exits are there? I presume there are stairs up?

Mork sees Xenobia move past him for the young one, so he steps towards the other two, saying "You don't understand. You're little. But you shouldn't get hurt for that," while thinking to himself "I don't understand either actually, but I know that burning kids is not right."

Mork attempts to pick the other two kids up, hoping they or the woman don't try to resist him.
