I've noticed that the Path of War page on D20pfsrd is out of date (and a little incomplete) and the Archive of Nethys does not have 3rd party stuff at all.

What sort of things should I keep in mind if I want to make an online reference for some third party sourcebooks?

Do people just get the content from the PDFs?

On the d20 pfsrd page there should be a link to request to become a collaborator. I suggest you go in for that rather than making your own. John prioritizes Paizo content before third party and always appreciates when other people come to help.
