I have a Paladin 5 and I want to take ranger levels. Is trading my ranger spells for feats worth doing? Where is a good place to stop on Ranger of I wanted to duck into a PrC?

It depends on why you want to take ranger levels. Usually, prestige class levels are going to be more effective.

Prestige Ranger is probably best for you.

And as for a Prc, it depends entirely on which one and why.

There's the Devoted Tracker feat in Complete Adventurer, which may be interesting for you.

The Consecrated Harrier prestige class is essentially a ranger-for-paladins. Ask your DM whether you can stack the spellcasting with paladin casting (which would essentially get you ranger and paladin spells on the regular paladin progression).

For nature stuff and tracking. The Combat Style isn't super important.
