so my gun has a base range of 120, has the distance enchantment on it. I have far shot and I was able to get Gnome crossbow sight for it so I was curious do to my sniper Goggles and my assassinate ability I was curious as to how far away I can assassinate my targets.

2400, only the distance enchant does anything, the rest is all attack modifiers

I thought the far shot feat increase my range by 1 1/2 o.o

Base range: 120 ft
Distance enchant: 120x2=240 ft
Far Shot feat: 240x1.5=360 ft (since distance is a real value, it uses normal multiplication rules rather than stacking additively)
Gnome crossbow sight: only decreases penalties, doesn't affect range

360x10=3600 ft max distance

so what would be my penalty (I switched out the scope for a Far-Reaching Sight from pathfinder.

so what would be the penalties for shooting 3600 feet?

Far-Reaching Sight doesn't affect range penalties, so you'd take the full -20.

Far-Reaching Sight doesn't affect range penalties, so you'd take the full -20....and then use a wand of true strike to counter it.

That said, good luck ever being 10 range increments from a target for any purpose other than a display of accuracy.

Wait, your tables don't regularly set up combat maps with 3600 ft. range? :smallconfused:

Wait, your tables don't regularly set up combat maps with 3600 ft. range? :smallconfused:While I know we can use a scale other than 1 square for every five feet, I'm now picturing a battlemat that fills a swimming pool. I really hope your group chips in on erasable marker costs.

This is why I really hope digital map-making tools take off, with every player whipping out a tablet when it's combat time. We can make it so that our imaginations aren't restricted by the realities of dry-erase marker, grids and table sizes.

To clarify, is this a pathfinder game?

If the enemy is thousands of feet away from the PCs but grouped relatively close to one another, just having two battle mats and saying "yeah this area in between is actually half a mile" works fine.

Battle mats are mostly useful for keeping track of AoE spells and melee characters. Ranged PC's, such as this one, don't really need to know exact positioning details: LoE is typically all they need.

2nd Ed combat and tactics had you partitioning the mat instead
