I used to play a character named mono who was a 7 foot tall battle sloth. He was awesome and I desperately want to play him again with a different group of people. Unfortunately he was a fair bit homebrew-y and he had a racial level adjust, which because of the DM is unacceptable in this campaign.
Is there a way you can get an awakened sloth (or I guess maybe a reflavored monkey) to be at least ALMOST raw legit with no level adj?

Anthropomorphic Ape from Savage Species is +0 LA with 2 RHD. That's the closest I can think of. Or just ask the DM if you can make a homebrew race, it's not like there's anything inherently broken about it.

Well, I don't know about race, but I highly recommend the Sloth domain. It seems appropriate.

Feral Bugbear? :smalltongue:
There's a Forest Sloth (MM2 p.106), but with 14HD, not going to be very player friendly. Unless you conveniently get 13HD permanently level drained, then get awakened.

There's also the Megatherium (FF p.124) again, 13 RHD.

....you could re-fluff the Urskin from Frostburn as sloth-like rather than polar bear-like.

Well the natural armor adds 1 and the unbalanced stats add 1-2 and I believe the bonus feats add one as well.

In general, a good tactic here might be to get a sloth (or sloth-like creature) as an Animal Companion. You can then make it Celestial with the Exalted Companion feat, making it intelligent. Then just roleplay the sloth.

Take a lycanthrope class, 2 levels, and go about in hybrid form all the time (without any of the animal abilities)

7ft. tall is still a medium creature. Refluff any standard melee race, and you're good to go.

This is the system that got us ECL 16 Hill Giants. I really recommend just evaluating the monster yourself.
