It’s just aft er Noon on a Wednesday when your commlink chirps.
Checking it, you see a matrix icon that resembles the traditional smiley
face image, only red and cocked to one side, with little jagged lines
resembling tusks on the mouth of the icon. Answering the call, the
icon is replaced by a grinning male ork. His face is lined with age; his
hair and goatee is touched with grey and a pair of golden datajacks
gleam along his left temple. Wire-frame glasses sit upon his nose,
the kind that correct your vision, not tinted mirrorshades that make
you look badass or even the more modern AR glasses or goggles, but
honest-to-ghost reading glasses.

“Hoi chummers!” The ork says with a cheerful grin. “I hear tell
you might be interested in a bit of biz. If you’re interested, head on
over to Underworld 93 tonight at 7. Th ere’s a small concert going on.
Let the doorman know you’re there to meet MacCallister, and he’ll get
you some good seats. Aft er the show’s over, we’ll have a chat and I’ll tell
you a bit more. Interested?”

Underworld doesn’t really look like much from the outside: a simple
ferrocrete building that looks like it should be warehousing machinery,
not the location of a nightclub. Th e only distinguishing features
of the club are a simple steel sign outside with the name, and an AR
display that is far more impressive blazing the name of the club in
bright neon lettering along with the club’s logo: Charon steering a
speedboat across the river Styx.. At one time, this was the place to
be for Seattle’s who’s who. Th e attraction for the place has long since
faded for younger crowds who are always looking for the next big
thing, but the place still retains its reputation as being the place to see
some of the hottest music acts of yesterday and today. Jetblack, Shield
Wall, CrimeTime, DarkVine, Blitzkrieg, the Psychedelic Phlegmm.
All have graced the stage at one time or another, and tonight looks
to be another big name.
Th ere is a sizable crowd outside the building, with a line of people
stretching around the building. A pair of intimidating troll bouncers
wearing expensive tailored suits stand guard at the door, ignoring the
majority of the crowd as if they simply didn’t exist, only occasionally
letting people into the club aft er one of them consults an actual paper
list on a clipboard. One way to make a guest list unhackable is to
write it down. An ARO in front of the building explains the crowd.
Mercurial is doing an unannounced concert at Underworld 93 tonight
at 7:30.

He awoke to his Sensei comm chiming, there was a quick flicker as his eyes switched from sleep mode to active and data began streaming through his field of vision. Diagnostics data, followed by a report containing biologic data, blood pressure, heart rate, and neurological response, it was quickly replaced by an amber time stamp.

<<12:17:27.09.06.75>>

A matte black arm snaked out from the couch, deftly avoiding knocking over a half empty bottle of Whiskey and a carton of Benny's Organic Soy Falafel, thumbed his comm and a raspy voice replied.

>>MacCallister, first good sleep in a week and I wake up to your toothy grin?<<

As he spoke to his contact, he stood up, the room was lit in dim amber shades, the shadow of drawn blinds obscured the wall, the holowindows were set to film noire, it fit his mood. He'd been out tailing a client's wife, watching her slot her supervisor, oldest story in the game. He knew he still had to make the call, he knew he should care, but he couldn't bring himself to do that. He shrugged, reached out, found them, a battered pack of Szczepanski Slims. An addictive brand of cigarettes, as the mix of marijuana and tobacco encouraged the smoker to hold the carcinogens in his lungs until the thc's hit the blood stream. He lit the slim and took a deep inhale, feeling that hot spot on the back of his throat. Absently he wondered how much of his lungs were truly his, and not polycarbons, biofilters, or cloned dna. He blew the smoke out, up towards the antique fan that circulated the air through his apartment.

He listened to the pitch, it was work, it put some yen in his pockets, something off the books, away from Khorzikhov's eyes. He knew that as long as he remained useful to her, he could trust her ... to a degree. He grunted back into the comm, then disconnected.

>>D'accord. Seven? I'll be there.<<

He headed to the office, he needed to tell Ms. Morrow that her wife was slotting her boss, to get ahead in the game. Really, Benoit couldn't fault her, sometimes you had to do questionable things, give up pieces of yourself to move forward, and carry on.

Morrow left in tears, he just watched with his cold Ziess eyes, as her tears fell through the holographic butterflies on her cheek it looked like they were bleeding. Butterflies, a symbol of change, he shrugged, as she transferred the funds all he could muster was a shrug and a nod. He couldn't even say he was sorry, he couldn't feel it, not really.

At least he had enough to cover the rent on his studio this month, maybe enough to pull the office out of debt too, but that was unlikely. He checked the time in the lower left field of his vision, it blinked coldly.

<<17:21:39.09.06.75>>

As he checked his gear, he pulled up the route from his Auburn office to the 4819 96th Ave East, Pullayup. His mapsoft told him the estimated travel time, calculated the most direct route, he added a couple stops, switchbacks, enough to confuse a one man tail. If Khorzikhov was going to commit a two man team to follow him, he sighed and light up another Szczepanski, shrugged, then he'd be slotted.

He checked, ensured the biomonitor connected to his pan, brought it up checked his bio-metrics. Shrugged, strapped the concealed holster under his left arm, he watched it shift color and texture to match his Berwick suit. He checked his clips, loaded the Crusader with his stick 'n shock, he didn't want to kill anyone today, not if he could avoid it. He left his heavy firepower behind, but he made sure that his Supermach was loaded with the EX and dropped it into his duffel, it was the Barrens though and if he went without visible weapons he'd be inviting trouble so he slung his Ingram X over a shoulder, before donning his Lined Coat.

He dropped his Ruthenium polymer poncho into the dufel as well, locked the door. Almost smiled, locks in this neighbourhood were more like a polite reminder saying I'm busy. A swift kick, a steady hand could defeat it. He'd straightened out a ganger who had broke into his office, he had enough of a reputation that the rest of the street typically respected his privacy. He opened the shielded compartment on his Thundercloud, dropped in the duffel containing the poncho and his supermach, as well as some spare clips, closed it up and headed on his way.

His atmo sensor was telling him rain was coming so he pulled up his collar, settled the respirator over his manicured goatee, and slipped his helmet on. He was there in over an hour, confident that he had lost any sort of tail that would have been put on him.

There was a parking structure behind the ferrocrete warehouse, it was staffed even. He drove his bike to the both, paid his 25 Yen, activated the anti theft and walked around to the front of the Underground. He saw the troll doormen, he had been security himself, he respected the position, didn't want to put them out. Walked right up to them, ignoring the crowd, as he took off his helmet he wished he'd got the sound filter option on his earbuds; his shades slide into place over his eyes from their orbital housings.

"Chrstianson, on the list. Guest of MacCallister," he paused while they verified the list, "Listen boys, just so we understand one another, I got my Crusader and an Ingram X. You can have the X and my helmet til after the concert, but the Crusader stays with me, yea?" He lifted an arm, flexed his Shiawase Daimyo cyber arm, making a fist, there was a soft hum of mechanical power. "I'm going set off your MAD detectors soon as I walk through the door either way, savvy?"

Rufus was in his home, cleaning his house manually. Sure, it was returning to barbarian age in some way... But Rufus liked it this way. It was keeping him busy without having to turn to technology for it. He had thought of starting a garden like his neighboors but gardening was time consuming and he would have feel overly guilty to enjoy himself and work on his house while he didnt find Tseng yet.

He still had a chores list on the wall however. He was being diligent about it. He was about to start making some food when his commlink rang. When he saw who it was, he raise a eyebrow. While he didnt wanna have his hopes up, MacCallister was one of his teammates contact he had for searching for someone. Tseng... He hoped he would find him but in same time, he was negative about his chances to do so. With parents being past shadowrunners, they had teach him that living in the present was the only way to go. Life was not easy in the streets...

Patting his hand on his used clothes to remove the dust, he answered his comm. He didnt put his comm cam on, just letting his voice and a red cloud avatar linger on his contact screen. As he talked, the red cloud was glowing at some place, like it had thunder inside that was flashing. As usual, the response was bad where he lived. The voice he used this time seemed electronic too, like it was a robot talking.

After his offer was led on the table, he pondered then nodded: " If Echo is going, I'll be there. Register me under the name Vincent Valentine. ".

Hanging out, he returned to his routine. Only after walking his guard dog Vincent he called Echo to find out if he was coming. Then he started to slowly prepare for tonight. He was very patient, chosing among his clotches the right clotches to fit in in such occassion. After much thoughts, he decided to not facial disguise himself this time. He was going to be a face in a crowd and he doubt the bouncer would remember him. He completed his attire of a waterproof hoodie covering the top of his jumpsuit armor with a necklace with metal ornaments who didnt look the part. It was useful to fool unsuspected guards if they had a MAD scanner. With the hoodie on, he looked like he was wearing jeans. Watching himself in a mirror, he looked like a tall and late teen who was trying to be cool but with a low budget. Perfect! He had to leave the helmet at home however, it would ruin the layback apparance.

He left his home after making sure everything was locked and after making sure his side weapon wasnt apparant throught his clotches. He took the bus toward his location. He knew the location this time and how to get there. He arrived a street away from the place. Walking there, he noticed the crowd near the bar. Coincidently, he arrived almost in same time as Echo. Rufus was surprise with his luck. He was behind him when Echo introduced himself.

" No need to roll your muscles big guy, we are invited here. Vincent Valentine, also a guest of MacCallister. "

His voice sounded a bit more immature, to fit his apparance. Fortunatly, Echo knew he would be using this alias tonight. Sometime, a alias and his voice adept power was enough to make a good disguise.

Huh. That was quick.

An ork in a teal windbreaker and a baseball cap folds up her old scroll-style commlink, pockets it, and picks up the sack of sodas and nutri-dogs she was bringing up to her flat. Countess said said she gave the fixer her contact information, what, two days ago? She'd thought that Shadowrunners were always hurting for work. Then again, they would also have a pretty high turnover rate.

Even without a commlink, the series of AR switches and numbers light up in the ork's vision as she reaches the top of the stairwell. 3: Maria Salvador. A name associated with this building's local directory, with her commlink, and with one questionably-legal rotodrone. Beyond that... well, there are probably a bunch of people by that name floating around throughout the Americas. It really doesn't matter that much.

After a staring contest that lasts about six seconds too long, the door finally recognizes its tenant's proximity and unlatches for Maria to push her way through. She slams the sack onto the counter, slots her scroll-link into a slot by the lamp, and flops onto an orange, threadbare couch as a series of AROs flood out of the furniture across the room. The one containing McCalister's message hovers over Maria's face. Seven o'clock tonight, huh?

>>Ok. I'll see you there

Even with Maria's resonant interface, her fumbling reply shows up as the plainest of luddite text messages. Hopefully she can make a better impression in person. Until then, she should have a little time in the afternoon, if the mapsoft on her ceiling is any indication. She snaps her fingers and opens a new Pesterchummer window in her mind's eye.

>>Hey Countess! I got an invite from that fixer you were talking about
>>Did he say anything to you, and if so, can I get a ride

Countess was spending her afternoon in the usual way: looking for work. She'd been in Seattle for a few months now, enough time to get herself settled and put her name out. Apart from a few little jobs, though, work had been scarce, and it was making her a bit antsy. When the message from the fixer came, she quite literally gave a sigh of relief. Finally, she thought to herself - and then she immediately chided herself as well, knowing that fixers and their ilk could smell desperation. If they were half-competent, they wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of that sort of weakness. Countess forced herself to calm down before she answered, and she deliberately kept her reply brief and businesslike.

>>I'll be there.

She glanced at the time. 12:18. That left her plenty of time to do a little research. She didn't know the fixer well, and one thing she'd learned running in Vegas and the PCC was that having too much intel was never a problem.

It was easy enough to find out info about the bar, so the fixer was the subject of her digital scrutiny. The next few hours were spent doing an (admittedly somewhat superficial) search for data on MacCallister. The only interruption came when Maria messaged her. Countess was in cold-sim VR at the time, with her reality filter running. The filter had been a gift from a former teammate, along with her callsign; it rendered the Matrix as a scene straight out of a Regency era drama. So Maria's message manifested as a telegram, handed to her by a virtual postman. She dictated her reply and sent it back off.

>> I'm going. Pick you up at 6.

He thought of the ARO outside, Maria Mercurial, 'Who Weeps for the Children', released in '48, same year that Bryant was born. As he drew a long pull on his Szczepanski, something fired deep in his synapses, a memory, triggered by ... something. Shiawase had put him into a program, regular counselling, to deal with his fragmented memories, which could lead to full on Augment Disassociation Syndrome, his therapist, Dr. Silvia Osterhagen, had said that he could expect certain stimuli to trigger these memories.

Iris' bed, their tangled bodies, the smell of some pheromone activated body lotion, and Mercurial in the background. He shook his head, trying to clear the feelings that washed over him, to remain calm, to remain focused, while somewhere deep inside, he screamed, and grasped at the ephemeral, dream like memory.

He withdrew the refrigerated inhaler, the cool metal snapped him back to the Underground, he triggered the inhaler, the crystal amphetamine matrix flared through his neurons like a cold, white fire. As the scene of the club snapped into cold, hard, focus. He scanned the crowd, the venue, his mind recalling his GIGR training, crowds, security, managers, and the artist. He started to pick out the existing security, looking for exposed flanks, potential threats, information he could use.

Rolling two Checks, the first is a Visual Perception Check with an additional +1 from the Novacoke, [roll0] (6 Hits) to locate the security deployed throughout the crowd; secondly rolling a Security Check to determine how the Head of Security is deploying his men, [roll1], (1 Hit).

>> Cool, thanks

With that, oblivious to how annoying that two-word telegram is going to be, Maria puts away the convenience-store groceries and returns to the couch for her next task. She closes her eyes, and the apartment vanishes around her, leaving her floating on the couch in a white expanse.

With a snap of her fingers, the window with her system clock returns. Until she gets the hang of the way time flows in VR, this is always going to be step one.

Compiling a tutor sprite because, hey, why not:
[roll0]
...plus[roll1] for hot sim? That seems inappropriate somehow...

= Only 2 hits! Meep!

Versus! [roll2]
= only 1 hit, giving us 1 net hit for 1 favor. Hooray!

Then registering: [roll3]
...plus[roll4] I guess

Versus: [roll5]

= 4 more net hits! What's more, Maria only suffers two points of fading stun, which she can easily recover by the time we get back to the main plot.

Chibi is a rating 3 tutor sprite with Cybertechnology and Hardware as skillsofts. She looks like a plushie mechanic with magnifying goggles.

When she's done with the afternoon tasking session, she wakes up and groggily rubs the bits out of her eyes. She has just enough time for a quick shower and blow-dry before changing into her light armor vest and throwing a black and gold T-shirt over it. She absentmindedly flicks her chipped tusk in the mirror as an AR Westminster chime announces Countess' timely arrival. Maria looks respectable enough for meeting some friends at a concert, and at any rate that's about as much thought as she's willing to put into her fashion choices.

--

Maria catches herself staring at the towering hologram depicting her namesake, one of the few remaining pop stars older than herself. She wasn't expecting to see anyone she'd actually heard of tonight, but here we are. The screaming fans make getting to the door and vying for the bouncer's attention a job in itself, but Countess has no problem muscling through the crowd.

Countess dressed down, insofar as a seven-foot fomor can ever dress down. She didn't want to stand out - again, insofar as a seven-foot fomor can avoid standing out. She wore some of her MetaL club wear, along with the bare minimum in tasteful accessories (her taser tucked in a hidden holster worked into a hip pocket, her collapsible baton clipped onto a belt loop, and the Sakura Fubuki tucked against the small of her pack). She picked up Maria at six PM on the nose and took them both to the club.

On arriving, she put on the "big angry troll" act, slipping naturally into the familiar role as she pushed through the crowd to get to the bouncers. "We're here to see McCallister," she said to them, brusquely.

The troll checks his list crossing out your names.

"Go right on in. Leave any weapons in coat check and enjoy the concert.

Echo

You notice the armed guards first. Big metahumans in good looking suits with suspicious buldges. You see six of them stationed in groups of two near the VIP area and near the stage. Next up you notice about a dozen young guys in black t-shirts and jeans who break up fights and do the grunt work of security rather than just standing around looking scary.

The last type that you can't confirm until something bad goes down but you can see a couple " fans" who just scream security even as they try to blend into the crowd.

Security set up is pretty much out of a textbook. Only real flaw with the setup is is that as far as you can see they have no means of fighting off a magical threat. You have no doubts that a setup as unimaginative as this would have something astrally present .

Myst

The guard gives you the once over before drawling out lazily "I'm afraid not sir. He has been pretty busy today handling the extra security Mercurial and her people needed."

He stepped back, "Forward my offer to your head of security; tell MacCallister to consider it a freebie for consideration of future employment." He stepped back, scanning the crowd, to allow the man privacy while he came to a decision, or received direction from his chain of command.

A couple of hours sunshine and clear skies today meant that Durkon was sure to use every second of that. Lying on the roof of his apartment building on Bainbridge Island, barely clothed, he seriously considered not answering the incoming call and instead open another beer, but then practicality took over. Most of his savings from his last merc jobs were gone and if he wanted to keep this apartment he´d have to get some work asap. So he picks up the call, not caring at all to show the orc him sitting there only in his underwear. Americans are such prudes.

"Sure Im on it. Thanks for the call mate. I owe you."

For most of the people it would be too cold to be outside dressed like this, but the cold was one of the reasons why Durkon came here. He spent way too much time lately in wet hot jungles so he enjoyed the cooler temperatures immensly.

Underworld 93. Sure he knew the club, but like most of his experiences of Seattle, its about 15 years out of date. But he was glad to know some old clubs are still around.

After another hour of enjoying the sun, he set his stubby legs to the ground and walked downstairs. With the step inside the apartment he felt energy surging in him. It had been an incredibly lucky find to get an apartment with a domain for norse magic. From the little he was able to piece together he found out that a priest of Odin had lived many decades here and slowly adjusted its energies to his taste. No matter, now it was his place and his turn to use its power. He moved into a smaller room which was covered in nordic runes and put on his two foci, a big golden ring, which was in fact an ancient swedish signet ring, and a silver beardring which was quite new but a good replication of ancient styles. one after the other, he infused them with his ancient magic to help him in the work to be done.

First casting improve Charisma Force 4 into the ring:
Spellcasting: [roll0] =>3 successes, Charisma increased to 8
resist drain[roll1] => 2 successes, no drain
then casting improve reflexes Force 4 into the beardring
Spellcasting: [roll2] => 5 successes, +3 initiative +3 initiative passes
resist drain[roll3] => 7 successes, no drain

After that was done he gets out his formfitting body armor (which has saved his life more than once) and puts on normal clothes above it. No reason to stand out unnecessarily. A ferry and a cab ride later, he arrived at underworld 93 about an hour early. He wanted to get a look at the place and enjoy it for a while before going to business. He walks right past the line and up to the bouncer: "Im meeting MacCallister and yeah I know Im early."

The guard asks you to step back from the checkpoint while he calls it in. After a few minutes he waves you back over. MacCallister says he's willing to give it a try. He'll be setting up the link in a few minutes. Standard set up green AR displays over friendlies, blue is for VIPs, red for active hostiles. So long as nobody draws a weapon you let the bouncers do their thing.

You see him hit a few buttons on his console as he waves you and "Vincent" through no alarms go off indicating that unless your real arms and legs grew back he silenced any alarms.

When McCallister sets up the link he ups the filters to remove the topnotch AR laser light show instead replacing it with the security feed. You notice about two dozen people with green display chuckling slightly that you were dead on about no less than 3 of the plain cloths security. You also take note of the 3 VIPs mingling in the crowd. security didn't mention it in particular but you assume that in case of shooting you are to insure their safety first and if any nastiness arises with other customers it won't be the people outlined in blue that get their teeth kicked in.

Countess

As the Countess goes inside she sees Echo having a chat with the guards manning the scanner. As you get the chit for your gun you see Echo stand back to wait for the guard to make some sort of decision.

You've been around long enough to know that if a basher like Echo is in the building chances are you'll be working together.

Durkon

The guard nods as he checks your name off the list and opens the door for you. Walking through the door you feel something in the air shouting to your senses that either lighting just struck or there is a ward nearby. It's a powerful ward but you've been at the game long enough to slip by without having to give up your spells.

you get waved through the MAD scanners. It's a bit early but already there is a bit of a crowd forming around the stage as people begin jockeying to get the best spots. The bars are doing a little bit of business this early in the evening and if you want to grab a booth it shouldn't be a problem.

About an hour later you notice a couple faces you recognize filtering in through security.

Bryant nods as he brings up the AR, a sweep of the crowd reveals that the feed is working smoothly, he turns back towards security and nodded with a measure of respect. "D'accord."

The flipped his comm link to subvocal, he'd worked with Shinra before, and it irked him that he'd been unable to determine what happened to Tseng. Still, he had Myst's information, and perhaps when they started making in-roads in the shadows, they'd be able to discover his whereabouts. He shook his head, doubt, reflection, introspection, gone, replaced by cold, hard, professionalism.

>>Myst, link your AR to my comm, VIP's are tagged blue, go make nice with 'em, if they make a move for the zone dance, talk them down, booths and tables. Keep them near cover. I'll walk the floor looking for threats, but you're going to be their primary. Stay sharp.<<

He walked towards the bar, his AR up, scanned the menu, noted the RFID's, figured they were following protocol. Bouncers and muscle wouldn't be trying to blend in, a strict no alcohol policy. Coolers though, they want to blend in, they want to be a part of the crowd, a drink went a long way towards that end, thing is, whatever they were drinking likely wasn't alcoholic. He went up to the long bar, scanning for threats, drunk, disorderly, those the muscle could handle. He looked for nervous, agitated, like someone planning something, it was hard to tell, he just needed to focus.

He nodded at the attractive looking bartender, a dwarf, thick set, but gorgeous curves. He sighed a moment, thought of Iris, picked a slim out of the pack, lit it, inhaled, the mix of the Szczepanski and the Novacoke hit his system. He smiled, Iris out of mind, repeated the name of the drink that the coolers were drinking, "Laughing Bandit, double."

He smiled at the woman, touched his cred stick to the terminal, watched the transfer of funds, tipped her well enough to be remembered. As she poured the drink, she raised an eyebrow. He nodded. It wasn't often someone ordered a double Bandit, as typically only security did, and the bartender didn't recognize him.

He turned while she finished the drink, scanned the crowd for both friend and foe.

As soon as he switch his commlink into subvocal, he answered : " One moment, I recognize someone in the crowd. Im sure he worked with MacCallister before. A shaman called Durkon. The dwarf over there, 30 feet on your right at the bar. Their is also this troll over there who worked for him before. She's 30 feet in front of you, behind the human with green hair. As for magical security, their is also 2 mages in astral, 5 guardian spirits patrolling the street and lots of defensive spells active. You sure you should drink on the job however? "

Once he is told they have no alchool in it, he almost blushed. He wasnt as used to security protocol as his coworker was. Since he got to Seattle, he focused on knowing more of its streets.

He excused himself and went to where the VIP were, studied them as he went along and subtly watching the crowd around him. He made sure he was looking like he was choosing a target to flirt with as he did so. He switched his voice to be more attractive and same age as the VIP he have to talk too.

Then he went to them, started some small chat on what they were talking about and try to be charming enough for them to let him stay with them.

Countess took her time in approaching Echo. There was a show going on, and while the music wasn't quite to her tastes (she preferred goblin rock) it was poor form not to enjoy it. During breaks in the music, she slipped through the crowd with surprising grace, given her size, grace that came from the expensive 'ware integrated with her nervous system.

Eventually, though, she slipped into an open space next to Echo and greeted him with a nod. "I think we're here for the same reason."

He'd noted her in the crowd after Shinra pointed her out, when she stepped up on his right side and spoke he nodded, "MacCallister, yeah. He's directing security for Mercurial, since we didn't have info on her performance tonight, I'm assuming that his proposal is something unrelated, but we won't know til after."

He smirked as he studied his associate, a small, lithe form, well, for a troll. He had seen her play the uneducated muscle, but he knew that behind those green eyes was a sharp, focused mind. He sent her a message through his PAN.

>>He was open to extra security tonight, allowed me to get my mil-spec 'ware through his MAD scanners. If you see anything in the crowd, do me a solid and flag it for my 'link, d'accord?<<

When the rest of the group shows up, Durkon is well into his second beer, and not the american kind but good stuff. The music was also not his particular style, as he is a very old school Metalhead, but he could live with it. And thats the kind of stuff you have to get used to when most people you are dealing with arent even half your age.
Nonetheless, he manages to fit in quite nicely and welcomes Myst and Echo with a friendly smile:

"Hello there! Its gonna be a pleasure working with you guys." He takes another sip of his beer to let them respond and then continues: "I´ve got a seat where we can watch the show. And believe me thats not that easy for a man my size."

With no weapons or implants to check, Maria has a pretty easy time following Countess despite the flurry of icons and windows surrounding the other patrons. She looks kind of like a little kid being dragged around by her big sister as they work their way to the bar. She'd be wondering how the hacker managed to pick a soon-to-be colleague out of the diverse crowd so fast, but it's clear that Countess must have met this cyberarm guy before.

When whoever Countess is talking to makes eye contact with the Indian-looking Ork behind her, said Ork retains a neutral expression and simply waves hello. She's not going to be the first to introduce herself, it seems. Maria then returns to craning her neck trying to catch what's happening onstage. She likes Mercurial well enough and listens to her stuff pretty often, if only because the star's long-term popularity places it in her default music feed all the time.

Myst:

You approach the man outlined in blue and as he turns around you find yourself face to face with an honest to god icon.

Joe Martin anchor of Newsnet Seattle all 6 foot 4 inches filled with blue eyed, blond haired charm is outlined in blue. He chats with you a few minutes but when Emerald Cacophony the band up on the stage starts winding down he excuses himself to go get another drink.

A tall man in his late 40s with a lined face, dark hair, and goatee wearing an immaculately tailored suit gets up
on the stage. He smiles out over the crowd. He holds up his hands to quiet the
crowd down and says “Alright you brain damaged re-wired mutants! Here’s the reason you’ve been sweating all over our nice, clean floors
all evening. Ladies and Gentlemen — if there are any out there — and the rest of you trash as well, I present to you the one, the only, MARIA
MECURIAL!”

The crowd goes wild as the lights dim, and then everything goes quiet as the first haunting synthesized notes of Mercurial’s hit song “Take It To Mister” swell up from the speakers. A spotlight comes on, illuminating a slender, lovely figure wearing a short dress of midnight blue. Her legs and arms gleam with polished chrome from her first lines of the song wash over you. Mercurial plays a two hour show before wrapping up. Several up and coming bands go on after her, but it’s clear that a lot of the patrons consider the concert over.

A waitress comes up and offers to escort you down and into the backstage area, where MacCallister is waiting for them in a small meeting room

The floor was a haze of sweat, sex; pheromones, natural and tailored created a haze of passion that lowered inhibitions, he watched as the gyrating throng began to wind down as Mercurial finished her set. The music was entrancing, and it created a tugging sensation just behind his Ziess eyes, where his brain was trying to drag up memories. With a scowl he shoved them back down, savagely.

He began formulating notes for MacCallister, his muscle had down their job admirably, perhaps Chelsea Verdu, one of the ork's had too many alcoholic drinks on her tab, but she kept it locked down tight. A note to file, but not enough to be disciplinary ... yet. His problem would be Clayton Willis, a good looking young man, who seemed to have an eye for the same, Bryant could care less, but Willis' desire to please the boys, had caused him to be careless with his MAD scanner, and let a few fans slip in with plas-steel knives that should have been checked at the door. Other than that the evening had gone smoothly, and as the waitress walked up Bryant nodded. Checked for his associates and began to follow her.

He was reminded of an old song, I hate to see you leave, but I love to watch you go.

Myst didnt recognie the newsanchor. He just knew he saw his face somewhere. Ironicly, that helped him talk with the guy, who did realized he didnt know who he was. Echo picked a subject he was interested in and it was goingsmoothly. But of course, he was there to see the show and excused himself when the main event came. He saw throught his excuse but didnt mind.

Once the concert started, a beautiful slender black ork came to him to invite him on the dance floor. She was pretty, with some hint of asian origin and a japenease accent. Since she seemed nice enough, he followed her to the dance floor. After a few sexy dances (what he didn't mind as they were less demanding so less chance to make him sweaty), he excused himself and went with the group. She seemed a bit disappointed but she hidden it well. She proposed to take a soylatte with him sometime and gave him her commlink number. She still smiled and waving at him as he left. She remained on the dance floor, watching the new group.

All the while, he had subtly had a eye on Joe Martin and made sure his new ork "friend" didnt touch his arm where his gun was hidden. He was glad the VIP left after Maria Mercurial left the stage. So now, his part of the job was over.

He was glad that MacCallister finally was ready to see them. He looked throught his pockets and saw everything was still there. Sure, everything in his hoodies pockets were not important and purposely misleading but it was reconforting to see she wasnt there to do his pockets.

The waitress leads you into the backstage area, past a couple of large and obviously chromed bodyguards who stand guard. Near the ceiling you see a small Japanese boy floating and translucent, obviously a mani-fested spirit of some kind. Security is tight, but that’s not surprising considering the superstar in attendance. Down the hall you can see MacCallister talking with Mercurial. He smiles and nods to her, then heads toward your group.

“Hoi chummers!” He calls out. “This way, please.” He motions to a door to your right. Inside is a small room with a table and a handfulof chairs around it. It’s a tight squeeze, but you manage to get the entiregroup inside and sit down. Once the door is closed, the roar of the music and crowd cuts off thanks to soundproof walls.

MacCallister is an older ork, appearing to be in his late 40s. He’s wearing an old, well worn, and oft -patched armored leather jacket, a faded Mercurial t-shirt, and a pair of jeans. Strapped to his left arm is something that looks like a keyboard, a 2050s era cyberdeck, the precursor to the commlink. He doesn’t look much like your average fixer, but rather looks like a tough old shadowrunner.

After letting everybody get comfortable MacCallister gets started.

"So this is the biz. I need you all to find a missing woman. her name is Fiona Craig some sort of archaeologist who arrived in Seattle last night on a flight from Greece. After that she went and disappeared I don't know if she got her self geeked or just kidnapped but she hasn't been at several meeting she was supposed to be at today and my employer wants her found yesterday. I'll pay each of you 3000 nuyen when she's found."

MacCallister opens up his arms and gives you all a big toothy grin "So how's that sound chummers? Wiz to you?"

MacCallister grins "You do know your stuff. I'll make the pot richer for each of you by (Successes *200) chip-truth that's as high as I can go. That sound good to you chummer?

You gain Joe Martin as a connection 3 contact. Loyalty 1. I'll post his stats a little later.

Mal'Nalern stopped for a second at the saw of the manifestation spirit and analyse it throught his gift. Then he continue walking. He saw Mercurial but wasnt one of her fanboy. He waited for their contact to be ready. Once in the room, he didnt remove his Hood or look at Maccalister directly.

Myst chuckle: " Sure, personnaly, I think the job sound interesting. But what about our expenses? Every shadowrunners with experience knows to ask for a small bonus to cover such things. That include greasing a few paws to get infos or to get healed if things turn wrong. "

After Makalister announce the bonus, Mal' nalern nod approuvingly then turn to the others to see if they are fine with the job. Then once they agree, he turn back to their fixer: " Just by curiosity, do you have a picture of her we could use or some basic infos to save time? Like what was the subject she was doing in Greece in the first place? "

Maria knows better than to pretend she's a negotiator. After a polite greeting and handshake, she lets the career runners do the haggling and turns her own thoughts to the problem itself.

"Huh, so, does Ms. Craig have a residence around here, or was she supposed to be in a hotel...?"

Countess likewise stayed out of the negotiations. She could be the heavy, playing up the big scary troll angle, but that rarely went over well with fixers. It seemed especially unlikely to work against a canny operator with a past as a runner, and this McCallister seemed to fit the bill. She sent the others a message by commlink.

Money's good. Want more intel, myself; I'm going to ask a few questions. Tentatively in, though.

Out loud, she asked their new friend about the issues on her mind. "Questions: Do you have a picture? An itinerary? Her last known location? That'll make finding her much easier. Is there a time limit? Does it matter if she's dead or alive? Does she have any enemies, or anyone who'd profit from her disappearance? Finally, what was she in town to do?"

If their is a opportunity to do so, sure, maybe... but dead bodies leave traces, same as gun shells. It could backslash on us greatly if they try to blame us for her murder too, even if we are being extra careful."

"No more than 48 hours. Alright, we're on it!"

She politely tries what MacCallister offers her, but as with every malt liquor she's tasted, the 70-year-old whisky tastes like old bread and urine to Maria. She leaves most of it in the bottom of the shot glass. "Huh, thanks, man. Take care of yourself."

On the way out, she puts away her mental Pesterlog display. It's distracting, and the handles she made up for everyone don't feel right yet. Still, it's much easier to, 'hear,' MM's subvocal message than it it would have been to shout over the crowd or the music. Her replies come over voice chat in a clear, chipper voice - much less throaty than her real one, though a quirk of punctuation still conveys a sort of sleepiness.

>> Well, I guess this means we're working together
>> We can check out the hotel and see how their reservation schedule works. We even know which room she was supposed to be in, so it's a matter of seeing who has been in there and when
>> (Countess, you've probably Data-Searched the heck out of Ms. Craig and her hotel already, right? Do you think we can find a security recording)

Somehow, Maria's parenthetical mental whisper gets conveyed to Countess privately despite the otherwise group-based chat framework. She has no idea why it works that way, but she can't say it's not convenient.

>> Come to think of it, did we even introduce ourselves yet? Or did I just miss it
>> Either way, you guys can call me Maria

But then, suddenly, dwarf!

...

Maria has nothing to say to dwarf yet. He just seems like some kind of weird panhandler.

As with many things in his life, he wasn't sure where, or why, he had a taste for the drink, but it reminded him of something, that smokey flavor, the slight burn along the throat as the warmth spread through your core. He tried not to think about it too hard, and just accept it. That's what the Shiawase re-assignment counsellor was always telling him, he shrugged, nodded to McCallister.

"Merci."

As they left the underground, in the upper right of Bryant's field of vision, he was checking availability and rates at the Mulvihill, booking a room through his 'link. He figured the retainer that McCallister had forwarded them would certainly be able to cover the cost.

As he scrolled through pictures of the lobby, guest rooms, furnishings, and amenities he only paid attention to the dwarf as Myst began to speak with him. Curious he minimized the Mulvihill's registration page and listened.

>>If we find Ms. Craig, either she, or our employer may be unwilling to relinquish said item, which would be required for payment. That being said, a side job isn't a bad thing, as long as it doesn't interfere with the completion of our primary objective, or the successful conclusion of our business with McCallister and the primary contact.<<

Being the social one, Myst took the card and looked at it briefly before asking: " Well well! You seem well informed! Of course, if you approach us, you must know more about Miss Fiona Craig. What other informations you can give us, so we can see if you are worth our time? After all, we are in a hurry... "

His smile was gentle and his tone was warm and friendly... He looked harmless at the moment.

"I'm afraid I don't know much. I was going to meet her around 10 last night to pick up a fist sized chunk of obsidian. Which is the same object I'm hoping you can procure for me. I'll pay each of you 2,000 nuyen. I'm afraid I don't know where she or the obsidian is."

Echo

The rates for the Mulvihill are very reasonable 150 a night and a picture of the ammenities shows a pretty good looking place though the furniture is the kind that merely looks expensive without the staying power of the truely expensive furniture. Course you've seen this kind of hotel before a mid class hotel making itself up to look like a high class one ( the kind of place that your aunt who often says "I'm not racist but..." would call "uppity") Over all so long as you don't hit up the mini bar or don't mind the markup on the food the average person could have a nice, fairly affordable night pretending like they're moving up in the world.

After reviewing the accommodations, Bryant pulled a up a floor plan from the Mulvihill's booking page, and began to pick a suite. His first booking he attempted to select Suite #1408, which, if it came up as unavailable told him that either she was still registered, or, it was down for maintenance, which would be a bad sign. If unavailable he looked for a 2 room suite closest to #1408. Before confirming his reservation he casually browsed their rates to see if there was a discount for UCAS military, as it would be more plausible considering his highly visible augmentations.

"Here is the situation mon ami. While I am amendable to your proposal, I will not endanger our current contract by forcing Ms. Craig to part with said item. A counter offer, if she is in a position to honor her original meet with you, we accept your fee and ensure that she makes it to a mutually agreeable meeting place. If she does not, or can not, object we will ensure that said object is returned to you." He paused, looked to his companions, nodding slightly.

"And now you said you had a meeting with her at 20:00 hours yesterday, where was the meeting scheduled, and how were you in contact with her?"

Nazaire is a pretty well known entity so you only do the first extended test. Head of Seattle's branch of the Atlantean foundation. Apparently he has become the big fish in their hunt for magical artifacts putting him in practical competition with the Draco foundation.

You do find a couple of threads on Jackpoint saying how he seems a bit too honest and above board meaning that several runners don't trust him anymore than they can throw him even if he has paid top dollar for some pretty easy jobs.

You're able to book a room on the 14th floor 1405. The Man at the front desk looks at Echo his face indicating that he was just called on his bluff when he had an exceptionally bad hand. Clearly he had meant to talk down to you the entire conversation due to your obvious cyberwear. He perservers with his actual job because he is a professional but most of the bad french accent disappears as he goes on.
"Ah yes Mr. Beniot you and your guest have room 1405. We at the Mulvihill ask that you keep your room keys on you at all times as it helps security know who are the paying customers and who are the riff raff. If you have any problems just call down to the front desk or ask any member of the staff they will be more than happy to help."

"If you have any bags the bellhop will be able to take them as he escorts you to your room. Enjoy your stay at the Mulvihill." An eager young man escorts you up to the room and gives you a brief tour of the room probably angling for a tip.

You are able to isolate and spoof the RFID signal embedded in the key card. It's a fairly easy install to have a commlink broadcasting the same code to security.

The maglock on door 1408 is pretty standard (Rating 3) and a quick scan of the hotel security system shows that it's probably enough to hold off teenagers just starting out but against a hacker with Countess's skills it would be the work of moments to get that door open. Unless stealing a staff key card or bribing hotel staff seems like a better idea.

"Time to earn my cut," Countess muttered to herself as she got to work. She wanted to break into room 1408, but she wanted to do it without leaving a trail. There wasn't time to slowly probe the hotel systems, so that meant a brute force attack. Risky but not too dangerous, as long as she was fast. It might not be necessary, though - not if there wasn't anyone or anything watching the halls.

First: it was important to see whether or not there were any cameras watching room 1408. As she traveled to the room Echo had wanted, she kept her eyes peeled for any such devices.

Second: spoofing the RFID on the hotel keycard to make sure that she and Echo couldn't be easily tracked.

Third: taking a look in the room without ever opening the door. A command from her PAN activated her ultrawideband radar, and soon a flood of wide-spectrum EM signals went pouring out from the wrist-mounted device, pinging everything in the room and even looking through the walls. She was mainly looking to see if anyone was in there, but anything out of the ordinary would be noteworthy.

It'll keep Mr. Smith the hotel detective from bothering them as well." After that he awardly thanks you for your service to the UCAS and excuses himself leaving you and the Countess alone in the room.

Countess

You notice 3 cameras as you are escorted to your room first one is in the lobby disgused as a carved awning, the second in the elevator is hidden behind a pane of black glass in the ceiling and the last one you notice as you pass by the stairwell disguised as a sconce. All three are probably wired into the central security system providing a good accounting of who is on what floor but limited in their ability to provide realtime information.

The spoofing into the system works flawlessly though when you try to ping room 1408 with the radar your system hangs for a few seconds (it's a bug in the system you've been meaning to squash, probably an errant 1 in the code allowing it to devour processing power) but after a second you are able to scan the room and find that no people or active comms are in the room.

As Countess cracks the door code the air spirit reports back saying that there is nobody inside and that there is only one astral signature in the room.

Countess:

Some idiot left the access codes on the maglock as factory standard so the actual hack takes less time than you spent setting up your gear. Within seconds the maglock is disengaged and your gear is logged out of the system and back in your pokcets.

Echo:

You see nothing as Countess quickly disengages the lock and opens the door.

As you enter the room your first reaction is that somebody has beaten you to searching the room, a pile of clothes lays on the floor from where somebody picked up a suitcase and dumped it out. Paper notes and take-out menus are strewn across the desk provided by the hotel. The bed's comforter is tossed carelessly in the corner.

SO no, she wasnt attacked here and shes just a slob. I already asked my spirit to remember this astral signature and once we are ready, I'll ask him to track her. The bad news is, their is only one astral signature in the room. So no clues on the cameras or anything that might happened to her, unless they covered their tracks, which I doubt considering this: "

He then pick the notebook on the ground: " I think this is what the dwarf Johnson wanted guys. Now we know we are searching for except the girl. If you find a picture of her in there, feel free to take it but otherwise, I think their wont be lots of clues here about where she is now. "

Anybody who wants to can look at the notebook (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TEjeP_amLwc4z0RBIP9UZBfxUXT645b1JxyGY1MWDN07usGgR nMVNWEVYmGUwnp_aWrxYazmUkbrU6po/view?usp=sharing) Myst is waving around. You notice that Fiona has written "Jack Turner 20:00" next to Tuesday's date in the margins of the notebook.

"Huh, really? Because they don't make notebook pages out of obsidian, last I checked."

Smart-aleck comments aside, the ork takes her small part in this pretty seriously, having left the tiny robot to peek from the door of their own room as a sentry. When Maria gets a chance to see the note over Echo's shoulder, she inhales sharply as a thought occurs to her.

"Huh, where's the nearest stuffer shack?" Maria thinks she and Ms. Craig would probably get along. She glances around the room and moves to check the shower for razors. "She probably went out to get that stuff on her list before doing anything official. Unless she came back with it, she might have gotten lost way before her eight-o-clock..."

Another thought occurs to her before she can even finish her first one. "Wait, only one aura? The note says the stone should have one of its own. Does that mean she never brought it to the room?"

Bryant was flipping through the journal, checking the entries as Maria spoke up. "Excellent observation. On both counts." He turned to Countess, "Two things, can you check the Maglock see when it was last accessed? Whether by her key, an employee key, or otherwise? And two can you check the security feeds see if she left through any of the exits with anyone?"

The name Jack Turner didn't ring a bell immediately, but he tossed it around, tried to remember if he'd run across it before in his investigations.

Bryant has Underworld Knowledge at 7, with a Specialization in Drugs. So I'll roll an Underworld to determine if I know anything. [roll0]. Hopefully we get a hit. Not a Glitch but damn close!

Myst shake his head: " No, its my mistake. Assesensing and astral signature are limited to magic and assensed being. I thought she was for a moment but from the notes she left, what my spirit is sensing is the stone astral signature. I would know if the stone was still here too. "

Myst also say: " Also, Im familiar with the name Jack Turner. He is a smuggler working in the Ork Underground. Because of the guy job, I think its safe to assume that she stolen the stone from the archeologist site and planned to sell it to one of our Johnson. Probably the dwarf who asked us for the stone. "

" And considering the delay and how she never went to the dwarf meeting... I would bet my birthmark that the smuggler is the one who kidnapped her. Following the stone magic signature will be easy once we get there. But we need to know that smuggler background first. Just like a shadowrunner, a smuggler wont get around much if he doesn't have some contacts. Maybe he want to sell the stone to a third party, who knows? "

Turning to our two tech characters: " Can you do a quick search on that smuggler guys? "

Then Myst turn to the spirit, getting the picture of the woman out and showing it in the air: " This is the person we are looking for. The astral signature you found is a magic artefact she is carrying. "

Turn to Echo: " I could send my spirit search for her, see if she is alive. But if the smuggler have magical backing, he might kill her instead of trying to keep her as hostage. Also, if he knows whats the stone is, if I were him, I would get a mage to analyse it. I already expect magical backup from him so we need to prepare accordingly. "

"Let's see what I can find out about our friend, the smuggler." She waved her hand in the air, opening up a window in AR for her search. Her eyes defocused as she started to parse the results as they came in.

As far as the maglock and the hotel cameras went, she had fewer options. "I could try to get into the hotel security, but again I don't want to do that until we're ready it leave. Too much risk of setting off alarms. If we're ready to move now, then I'll start in on it."

The Ork Underground, he knew little about it specifically, it was an underground network of tunnels, abandoned sewers and such, that ran beneath Seattle. Other than that he was unsure of any specifics, and couldn't recall any details that could currently aid them.

"Short of physically travelling there to ask around, I've got nothing. Any connections I have are corporate or security, neither of which are of any real use currently."

He looked towards Countess and nodded, "I don't think we're planning on spending the night, so if you want to burn there security to find the feeds, I'm ready to pull the trigger on that, unless the rest of you have any thought on our next step?"

After checking the fridge, the bathroom and the nightstand, Maria chimes in. "Well, she did manage to pick up everything on her list, so it seems reasonable to assume she left for her appointment. She didn't get her eggs yet, though. I wonder if the grocery has seen her..."

EDIT: Fixed.

Mapsoft?? [roll0]

"Meanwhile, do you guys know whether she had a rental car or anything? Maybe you can talk the front desk into telling you if she had one registered."

Myst ponder: " You know, I have a contact who have some contacts with street gangs, mostly drug dealers. That Turner is a BLT's dealer, maybe he heard of him. Also, my spirit checked and the trail is lost on the Streets. I would need to get to the Underground first. The trail will be more fresh then. "

(Now what? Im not sure whats going on anymore. Are we leaving for the Underground or risking alarming the hotel by hacking their security feed?)

"All right. I'm heading back to my car, so I can go into VR in comfort - and make a quick getaway if need be." Countess made her way back to her SUV and crammed herself into the compartment. The interior had been redone to fit someone of her proportions, but even so... "Stupid humans making human sized cars..." she muttered to herself as she made the driver's seat recline all the way. Countess lay down, and in relative comfort went into full, hot-sim VR.

Instantly, the world vanished, replaced by the Regency-era London that was the Matrix (according to her reality filter, anyway). She started off by searching for the hotel's nodes. Once she knew the lay of the virtual land, she could start hacking her way in.

I'm assuming that finding the hotel's public node won't require a roll. What I do next depends on whether or not there's some sort of obvious security node, or if it's hidden and will require a search.

Myst nod: " I'll go first, since Im supposed to be your guest. "

He give the case he had to Echo: " There, give it back to me on your way back. It will look like we did some sort of transaction. "

Myst leave first and goes for the car.

The hotel security was laughable, and Countess's reticence to dive in and risk exposure proved to be the result of excessive caution. She found the hotel security node quickly and, finding it barely secure, just blew in and started sending commands.

As directed in an PM, I'm rolling Hacking + Stealth followed by Hacking + Spoof:
