So, in honor of an event, let us talk about fun stories and series featuring larger than life adventurers fighting nazi's, shall we?

For a lesser known entry, I'll put up The Red Panda Adventures by Decoder Ring Theatre (http://decoderringtheatre.com/). A fun, heartfelt series of Pulp adventures featuring the titular hero and his partner The Flying Squirrel, this series includes a build up to and past the second world war. While the primary medium is an online audio drama, there is also a comic series and set of novels for those interested.

The Indiana Jones films are an obvious choice, if with a slightly less flashy hero.

Does the sequel where they reveal their faux Sarah Palin is a Lizard woman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKPwtDjzJMI) and the Nazis are living in the centre of the Earth count?

For that matter how about Sky Sharks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIduXS3KOGY)?

And then there's all those Scy Fi movies....

Hellsing.

Oh wait sorry, that series doesn't really have heroes now, does it.

Hmmm, what else? Oh, right...

... Bleach. :smallamused:

Fun maybe, but good?

I see nothing!

Hehehehe, That was such a weird sequel.

I had forgotten sky sharks was a thing...

Hellsing.

Man Hellsing got weird.

And I'm not sure Bleach is Heroes vs. Nazis. More nascent villain organization vs. Nazis...

I'll take Indiana Jones for 500, Alex.

And the answer is: "He Betrayed Shiva"

What is the question?

Oooh..another one. The Shadow fought Nazis a lot, for example in THE Shadow 1941.

The villain group for the final arc are the Germanic-themed Quincies, with double-breasted overcoats and ornamentation that's clearly designed to evoke comparison to the Nazis.

I believe you misunderstood. The complaint is not that Quincies are not Nazis, but rather, that Shinigami are not heroes. Similar to Hellsing, several of the protagonists are pretty awful themselves.

I'd say Ichigo and Orihime are real heroes, even though they've mostly been soccer balls for questionable folks like Urahara.

Hellsing.

I would say that Seras Victoria is a good person despite it all (just about the only one I will admit). Unless something happened I don't know about.

Urahara, while a class A chessmaster, is a good guy for the most part. Being sneaky does not mean you are evil. I would say there are some heroes in the SS. Rukia for one.

Ah, but Urahara let out Mayuri. That should earn anyone enough bad guy points for a lifetime. :smallamused:

But yeah, I'll grant you Seras and Rukia.

Inglourious Basterds.

The Blues Brothers featured some villains who weren't exactly Nazis, but were in all but name, and were secondary antagonists. And who featured in the film's most ridiculous (and, arguably, most amusing) scene.

There were also some Nazis as secondary/tertiary antagonists in the ridiculously crazy Rat Race.

A TV show, rather than a film, but Psychoville featured some Nazis as villains, and was definitely larger-than-life.

For a curveball, Valkyrie, where both the villains and heroes are Nazis! It may not count as "larger than life", though. While first watching it it got to the stage where I assumed it had just veered into effective sci-fi/speculative territory. But, nope, when I got home and looked it up it turned out it all pretty much happened. Crazy.

All but name? "Illinois Nazis. I hate Illinois Nazis." Then the Brothers drive through their rally forcing them off a bridge after they (the Nazis) give a big ol' "Heil Hitler!"

Heh, it's been so long since I saw that that I'd forgotten they were actual Nazis; I'd somehow rememberd it as a slightly more subtly-named Nazi-a-like group who the Brothers merely nicknamed Nazis. My mistake.

Technically they were Neo-Nazis, since they were neither German nor from the first half of the 1900's.

"To Be or Not to Be" was a 1983 remake of a 1942 Jack Benny film To Be Or Not To Be (https://www.criterion.com/films/27690-to-be-or-not-to-be)
Also no one has yet mentioned Casablanca (http://www.filmsite.org/casa.html) which was also from 1942 and has often been cited as the best film ever!

Basically this.

Inglourious Basterds.

Are the Inglourious crew really heroes? Anyway, that is a fun little list. Some things I haven't seen, some I have. Added Psychoville to my "Things I didn't know about" list, and I'll have to learn more about.

and yes, the story of the von Stauffenberg attempt is interesting.

And the exit during the chase...

Don't forget Kong Fury!

Kung Fury was a fun, completely insane one.

That's debatable, although I'd say Shosanna is, at least. An argument could also be made for Hicox. The concept of a "hero" is always a nebulous one in Tarantino films, though. In the classical sense, Mr. Orange, Butch, the Bride, Django, Jackie Brown, the girls from Death Proof, the Basterds and Shosanna, and probably at least two of the Hateful Eight, are pretty much all heroes/heroines. By a more modern standard, antiheroes is the best most of them can aspire to. Seth Gecko, Kate Fuller and Max Cherry are probably about as good as it gets for Tarantino protagonists (or near-protagonists), and two of those are questionably even his.

Hellsing... Abridged.

"Whoever is behind these attacks, it would have to be some sort of large, organized group."
"Like the nazis?"
"That would be retarded."
~smash cut to~
"Gentlemen. We... Are Nazis!"
"Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil!"
"And we... Will have war!"

Pretty good, but the sequel is probably a better example.

The gold-obsessed undead in the first movie could really belong to any group; they don't HAVE to be Nazis. It's the sequel where they remember how much they loved all that genocide business.

Also, the entire Wolfenstein series would like to raise a hand.
