I can't remember the comic number, but belkar was on a killing with goblins. Roy wound up dieing. Elan wound up singing some kind of song that got EVERYONE ( friend and foe ) to stop fighting temporarily to listen to it. I would chalk this up to fascinate, but fascinate can't be used in middle of combat.
Is there a ability or spell that can duplicate what elan did/caused?

I think it was just a high Perform check. I don't think he did any magic there.

Rich has long stated that the strip, while D&D-based, does not conform to D&D rules when rule of cool is more important (can you imagine how boring optimized, rocket-tag era 3e combat would be to draw or view?).

Edit: and no, I don't know how to do it using 3e rules.

Calm Emotions seems like it would fit the bill

The range on that is very limited, though. Some of these soldiers were definitely more than 30 feet from each other.

Really, it's easier to assume Elan was just talking as a free action and nothing game-related was used.

I can't remember the comic number, but...

This sort of thing always bugged me. The comic is right over there, on the sidebar. Take five minutes and look up what you're referring to when you want to ask a question about it. The forum will still be here when you come back.

Strip #445 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0445.html) if it matters. Took 10 seconds to find if that matters.

Is there a way to find the strip you need without scrolling through 455 strips?

A perform check followed by an Enthrall (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/enthrall.htm) spell. Assuming the group is in the low teens, then everyone in 230-250 feet would have been affected. That should cover everyone in the strip (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0445.html).

Almost fits, but not quite. I'm assuming the spell would have ended when Belkar knifed the hobgoblin cleric, but the descriptor states such an act would make all affected (which probably includes the human warriors) unfriendly towards Elan.

On the other hand, the only 'good guy' confirmed affected is Belkar, who wasn't too friendly towards Elan to begin with. The question remains why Elan chose to include him in the spell, though.

subconscious spell craft check to create new spell may be ( it at least can be used as plot hook) wait a second he may actually used occult psycic casting to cast a spell subconsciously cause he just sing and if i remember psycic magic has just thought and emotion contend( thought elan, emotion missing him)

Honestly, I just have a great memory for extraneous information. Google will do the trick though.

I have to admit that my Google-fu isn't all that great. On many occasions I have wanted to find a particular scene in OotS and would not know how to Google it. Are you just relying on picking up references from the Forum discussions of each strip? The comics themselves are just images and do not appear to be particularly 'search-friendly'.

You're expecting tactics and good sense from Elan. This is a mistake.

This comic only has a little over 1,000 pages. Even if you had to visually check every one of them (unlikely), it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. :smallsigh:

I just realized something. Whatever Elan did, it wasn't a spell. Just read this comic (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0478.html).

:vaarsuvius: "A spell?"
:elan: "Yeah, it was when we-"
:vaarsuvius: "You cast one singular spell today?"
:elan: "Yeah, but-"

Seems rather clear here that Elan's only spell was his illusion of the OotS.

Well, when he mentioned Roy dying and Elan singing his song, I knew it would be in the 400s; The entire Battle of Azure City is. I probably couldn't guess based on a random quote, but that was a big enough hint.
