Your journeys have taken you across the world, to strange locations, all in the name of adventure.

You have found your way to the strange town of Broken Bridge, or rather the twin towns. Once upon a time they were one town, connected by a bridge with a castle in its centre. Then one day the bridge was shattered, leaving the castle ruins in the middle of the waters and two towns separated by an expanse of broken stones and a fast-moving river.

The ruins are cursed with some evil that slays all who land on the main island, and the people are forced to take barges across the river for commerce or personal affairs. The location is of strategic importance, the only point where a crossing may be made for miles. Yet, despite many attempts, none have discovered the source of the curses power, nor freed Broken Bridge from its power.

A posting on the western side of Broken Bridge asks for adventurers to attempt to enter the ruins of the castle, and heal the desolation of Broken Bridge.

You and several other foolhardy adventurers have agreed to take on this duty. While hailing from different lands, you all get along well enough; and share the common goal of earning money enough to enter the Dragonspike some day. This seems a fine opportunity!

OOC: enough of waiting, I'm ready to start. Introduce yourselves, and let's have some fun.

Lindir's presence in the town would more than likley get them a few glances. Most of them in awe, or so he would like to think and then some perhaps with unease. Drawing more from his elven heritage he was indeed a gracefull being, dressed in a formal, elegant outfit. But through his years of study in magic his body has been infused with its energies to the point it is visably glowing around him which made him stand out quite a bit. His skin covered in glowing green lines like tribal tatoos and he is emmiting a faint green glow. Small orbs of green light dance around him like fireflies only adding to his mystical apperance. However most of the glances he got would go unnoticed as he would be fully occupied with taking notes in his large tome of a book which has a chain attatched to it so he may carry it on his shoulder resting against his side.

Having joined with his new found traveling companions not too long ago he had yet to truly form a bond with any of them. But none the less he found it was very convinient with extra help on his travles and he has found them to be capable enough to stick around. But now lies a task ahead of him. And indeed it is a daunting one but for Lindir its nothing more than a stepping stone to reach his real goal. And an oppertunity to gain knowledge and possible treasure of course. This "curse" the locals spoke of intruiged him more than anything else and he was eager to learn of its nature. However he was not in a rush to go on with the mission just yet. He figured he must do some resarch in to the subject. Speaking with his fellow travelers he suggest they take some downtime after the long travle or do whatever they wish while Lindir himself takes a trip to the library. There he starts looking through every book avaliable which could perhaps give him some info on the history of the castle or any accounts of the creatures that lurk within or possible guesses on what is the cause of the curse, its lay out, the people who lived there... Anything that could be usefull.

After his stay in the library he would go back to his companions and once there would make the suggestion that they go to whomever has posted the request to have the castle cleared and speak with them. If they would do so then perhaps the could learn something that maybe Lindir himself could not find out.

Okay so im going to roll some investigation and while im at it roll knowledge to see what he can perhaps remember off the top of his head about the castle itself.

Library: You meet the chief librarian, a Pook of exceptionally advanced age with drooping ears and drooping jowls, with a pair of round spectacles on the tip of his nose.

Wanting books? Oh goodness, a mage! Well, my good man, show your membership or pay the fee. This isn't the Queen's library, we've got to keep the roof over our heads...

He shakes a donation box made of wood before you, with the symbol for one gold coin on the side.

If you pay: Looking for information on the Castle's Curse is fairly simple, as there are accounts by those who were nearby of what happened. A great cloud of smoke surrounded the castle, bolts of lightning erupted throughout the cloud, and great winds shattered the bridges on both sides of the island, sending the hunks of stone about. The smoke still wreaths the island, blocking the ruins from view. The river is too fast to do more than send small barges across.

Yet no one knows *why* this happened, or the source of the strange curse. None who have made it onto the island have ever returned. None of the beasts or monsters inhabiting the island have been seen, only their screeches at night or when fighting intruders, or the screams of the adventurers who have gone there since.

Otherwise, it is a mystery. The town of Castlebridge has become Broken Bridge, and the trade in the region has been stopped for several years. No one is happy, not even the barge-owners (whose trips across the fast-moving waters are dangerous, and they would make much more money if the bridges were rebuilt).

This information is all in the most direct source related to the island's history, a book by the Loremaster Scuttlebug, a Pook of great intellect and vast learning.

ooc: ugh, I hope I didn't muff this one up with the delays and confusion. If we don't get posts from the others, I may redo this with 5e instead.

But let's hope not! I want to use up my SW books!

I like this premise quite a bit, actually. It's an interesting idea for an adventure, at least potentially.

In the Library

As Lindir walks up to the counter and greets the pook he glances down on the box handed out to him. Without much of an expression he takes out not one but ten coins and drops them down in to the box. Meeting the pooks eyes he smiles slightly before he replies in the pooks own language. "I hope that will suffice...You sound like you dont get to see many mages around these parts?..." he inquires at the pooks reaction.

Keep occ in the occ thread or in spoilers. Also i have sent pms to the others. So we will see how that goes. Id love to continue with this. Also i have some questions for you in occ if you have not seen them.

Blue Valkyrie stands at the broken bridge's edge, watching the flow of the river, kicking small pieces of stone into the current.

She looks towards the remains of the castle, disquieted by a chill running up and down her spine.

Her unusually large size most likely garners some attention, since she looks as though she were the spawn of a human and a giant, at least in comparison to most humans, which generally average the middle of her rib cage.

But she pays them no mind. She is hardly the only individual to have such an indomitable appearing physique, yet stares are directed at her nearly everywhere she travels.

Her horse is large, generally the type used to carry a knights panoply, or military equipment, or to plow farmland. It stands beside her amicably, taller than most people, yet only up to her shoulder. The only breed of horse large enough to carry her without appearing to be a pony carrying a large man, regardless of her shape. 'Giantism' she heard someone call it once. Proportionate Giantism. Of the sort that she appears to be a normal human, but only from a distance.

She pats her horse's nose, it's ears twitching from the desire to be on the move. And turns back into town to find a stable to keep her in while she's in town. Perhaps an Inn until they find a way across to the island...

But why haven't they just build a new bridge further along the river?

"Oddities and ends", a donkey-pulled cart store, could go no further. Dwarven designed, it was one solid piece and couldn't be ferried about in small barges at any price its owner would be willing to accept.

He'd found an unused field to park his shop in within Broken-bridge-by-the-River, as the dwarves called the town. As he'd heard Dwarves call it, anyways. Or perhaps, only as he'd ever called it. As is standard tradition for a new town, the merchant Rhear MacDullnik intended to check whatever approximation of an inn they had, both to complain about and get drunk on their inferior ale, and then ask for stories of his heroic rival while he was being an angry, surly drunk. Maybe break something, maybe not.

That hadn't happened this time. This time, he'd have to be on slightly better behaviour- there were other adventurers about. Although fame and glory all for himself sounded a good score, this was the sort of place adventurers went to die. And dwarves were well known for their heroic, unexpected and selfless sacrifices completely against their nature. Some from his village(s) might have survived the dragon attacks if they hadn't all been trying to look cool, standing in front of one another with a "go on, lad/lass, this is my fight." Thankfully he'd slept in both times and despite the super-hot breath's embers turning his hair blue, he was none worse for wear physically.

No, instead of being a general grumpy nuisance at the watering hole, he supposed he'd head to town hall and try to get a look at a schematic for the joined city and castle's architecture- and then he could revert to the regular plan. He scoffed that he had to knock with bare hand-dwarves were well known for their elaborate knockers. "Open up, y'sorry excuse fer a bureaucrat. Yer' needed fer once, on account of adventurin'."
