I've been trying to find an accurate description of monsters, more specifically the sizes (in measurement) of monstrous scorpions. I find it important to have an idea of the actual size of the monsters I'm pitting my party against so I have a better understanding of what they can get away with: trying to lasso and ride a medium scorpion for example. I've googled and binged and haven't found a very satisfying answer so whatever anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!

The official chart is here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/movementPositionAndDistance.htm#bigandLittleCreatu resInCombat) -- the link MilleniaAntares appears to be the same information.

When describing the size of creatures, rather than just spit out their size categories, I usually use the following:
Tiny: the size of a cat
Small: the size of an average dog
Medium: the size of a human
Large: the size of a horse
Huge: the size of an elephant
(The other size categories don't come up often enough for me to have habitual animal references for them.)

For the specific example of lassoing and riding a Medium Monstrous Scorpion: you can ride any animal that's at least one size category larger than you. So a halfling or gnome could ride a Medium scorpion, but a human, elf, or dwarf could not.

Gargantuan: Humpback Whale
Colossal: Blue Whale and up.

Colossal+: Larger than an old growth red wood tree (which can get up to 2,000 tons).
