Hey all, been playing Smite alot lately, and I have really enjoyed the concept of their rendition of Fafnir, however inaccurate it may be I don't rightly know. Regardless, I was wondering what would be the best way to make him into a character. I'm thinking gold dwarf with a focus on throwing hammers and/or sword (hammer) and board. But then you come to him transforming into a dragon that breathes acid on people. Obviously, I would go with black dragon for this, but what is the best way for a mundane to achieve such a transformation?

It's probably fairly easy to find a dragon that can turn into a dwarf, as the default Alternate Form allows medium humanoid shapes. You can play a black dragon with the Alternate Form feat (Dragons of Eberron), but you need five sorcerer levels for that, so it's available at ECL 12. Black dragons have LA +3 LA for their first 4/6/10 HD. You can buy some off, but not all.

Turning into a dragon can be done with Wild Shape ranger/Master of Many Forms (ECL 15, max HD = character HD), or just a polymorph specialist (ECL 7, max HD 15, but other spells come online for more HD). You don't get all dragon abilities, sadly including the breath weapon, so you need Assume Supernatural Ability for that.

Can I get a source for WS Ranger, polymorph specialist, and Assume Supernatural Ability?

Edit: Scratch that, Google to the rescue!

With polymorph specialist, I just meant a wizard (or cleric, druid, whatever) specializing in the spell polymorph, it's not a specific class that I know of.

Wild Shape ranger is an Unearthed Arcana variant, Assume Supernatural Ability is in Savage Species.
