View Full Version : Pathfinder Optimization for a Bloodied Chain Nightblade

Hello Playground!

Right now I'm making a character for the Carrion Crown AP, and I would like to play a dhampir Nightblade (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/ascension-games-llc/nightblade) with the Bloodied Chain (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/3rd-party-classes/ascension-games-llc/nightblade/paths/path-of-the-bloodied-chain) path. Yes, I know it's not optimal for this campaign, but I really like the concept, especially the bit about scaring fear immune creatures at 5th level.

Unfortunately, I am still very new to optimization-fu in Pathfinder (I'm much more used to 3.5), and this seems like a character that I need to plan very carefully to avoid being completely worthless. My biggest problem right now is planning out feat and spell selection to most optimally stack up fear effects while also having some other combat utility.

Other information

Campaign starts at level 1, and the GM has assured us that we will survive to 2nd level unless we do something really, really stupid
25 point buy, max HD at 1st and every odd level, average HD at every even level
Two traits+one campaign trait, no drawbacks
WIP sheet here (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=859367)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I think focusing on intimidation and fear is setting yourself up to fail in Carrion Crown. Large parts off the first, third and fifth book in this AP deal almost exclusively with the undead, who are univeesally immune to mind effecting.

Darkened Fortress might be a better path to choose?

The 5th level ability in Bloodied Chain, Aura of Fear, let's you affect creatures with fear affects that are normally immune to fear. Does that not overcome immunity to fear from mind affecting too?

EDIT: Genuine question. I thought it did, but now I'm not so sure.

Anything that lets you overcome fear immunity would allow you to affect the undead.

...That's what I get for replying on my phone at lunch. That would negate the immunity. Carry On!
