From Executive Producers BEN AFFLECK and MATT DAMON, The Runner is the first live-action competition series that’s made for mobile. For 30 days, one Runner must fight to make his or her way across the United States while being hunted by five chase teams…and the entire nation. Everyone is fighting for their piece of a million dollars.

The contestant is declared an enemy of the state and released with a 12-hour head start before the Hunters, an elite team of Network-employed hitmen, are sent out to kill him. The contestant earns $100 per hour that he stays alive and avoids capture, an additional $100 for each law enforcement officer or Hunter he kills, and a grand prize of $1 billion if he survives for 30 days. Viewers can receive cash rewards for informing the Network of the runner's whereabouts.

Well without the inherent lethality and allowance to kill civil servants I wouldn't call this stranger, but the setup is odd I'll admit.

Specifically the individual against everyone mechanic, I'd expect the public to be given an option to support the hunters or the fugitive normally, but apparently they aren't capitalizing on team tribalism here. Maybe you get to pick which capture team you like?

It's probably the normal social channels of getting to take pictures and post them online to help the teams track their quarry.

So most reality shows I'm peripherally aware of have either a set goal like racing across the globe or an interval based player elimination. What ensures the fugitive isn't captured before a season's worth of material is filmed by a cunning team?

I'm almost certain there will be a 'pick your favorite Chase Team' angle:

The Chasers are already chosen/announced, getting publicity, and are clearly 'themed' in various ways.

What if they catch him/her on day 2? The show just ends?

They're going to pad the length with manufactured crap, aren't they.

Not just pad, with no clear attempt to humanize the runner, I'd expect a bottleneck at the end to make sure one of the teams manages to 'win'.
