The bladesinger is all nice and dandy but have anyone seen any homebrew of a heavy weapons / heavy armor
type battlemage? Sounds way more awesome then an elf skipping around among the flowers whipping his rapier around. :P

The paladin base class, and Eldritch knight aren't homebrew and they fill this role.

As for homebrew I have never seen a properly balanced class of this type, they are usually broken overpowered.

You could try the Arcane Warrior on the D&D 5e homebrew site. It's the first one in the classes section

Unfortunately, the only time Wizards managed to make a proper Gish was 4th edition, where they made 5 of them.

I haven't seen good quality ones along those lines. What are you looking for exactly? I wouldn't mind whipping something up.

EDIT: Is it just "Dude in heavy armor with 1/2 casting" or do you have any specific flavor or character examples you want to go with.

Mostly like the bladesinger, full caster but with subclass perks that improves combat but heavy armor and 2h weapon focus instead of a DEX focus.

Have you looked in the clerics section of the book full casters higher hit die then wiz and a lot of bombing get heavy weapons and armor. Or I know you might so no but just humor me here. Take 1 fighter dip and then sorcerer use the cantrips greenflame blade or booming blade to keep up on damage. Take gwm with a greatsword and quicken meta magic. It one of my favorite builds

Valor Bard or Favored Soul Sorcerer with a dip/feat for Heavy Armor Proficiency?

Mountain Dwarf Wizard that takes a feat to get heavy armor, holding their battleaxe or warhammer in two hands. This would also let them drop a hand for somatic reasons and still smack things around, thanks to the versatile nature of the battleaxe and warhammer.

Make 'em Abjuration specialist, and you have a sturdy caster.
