Does anyone know if someone has made a Chameleon archetype for the Rogue? I loved the PrC in 3.5, but I can't find any conversions for 5e except a base class, which is not what I'm looking for.

What was it about the Chameleon you liked?

Their ability to change their class features? Their versatility? Their duplicity?

Changing Class Features is a bit of an arbitrary meta-game ability; either you can do a thing or you can't. The Bard has the versatility to duplicate many other Classes features without having to pick and choose on a given day. Simply taking the Charlatan Background gives you a lot of duplicity, if that's what you're looking for and the Mastermind Rogue Archetype does it even better (but doesn't have quite the versatility of the Bard).

More specific questions lead to more specific answers. In short, though; no, I haven't heard of a Chameleon Archetype for the Rogue. On the other hand, I don't believe one is necessary.

I haven't heard of one either. All of those posted on this forum are collected here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20541891&postcount=13), but I can't see a 'chameleon' in there, nor in the collection of PrCs (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20541917&postcount=19).

Maybe you could make your own version?

No archetype that I'm aware of, but Nifft did make a Chameleon class here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?436422-Nifft-s-5e-Chameleon-Base-Class-PEACH).

What I really liked was their ability to be whomever they needed to be on a given day. What I'm hoping it to make an assassin character who can take on a cover identity, with all the skills and abilities that cover provides, eliminate her target, and move to a different town with a different identity. One day, she's an archmage at the Mage's Guild, eliminating a dangerous wizard. The next, she's a soldier in the army, raiding a nearby goblin camp. The day after, she's a bard at the king's court, assassinating a tyrant king. So, I guess what I like is their versatility and duplicity.

Eh, I'm trying, but it's really difficult. I'm trying to find someone to help me with it.

I saw that, but it's way more complicated than I'm looking for.

Hmmm... I hate Multiclassing but...

Vhuman Urchin Paladin 1/Rogue 5 (MasterMind/Swashbuckler/AT) /Paladin 8 (Ancients?Devotion?)/ Sorcerer (Dragon) 6

This gives you pretty much everything you need to be a chameleon.

Starting ability scores would look like

Str: 16
Dex: 14
Con: 12
Int: 8
Wis: 10
Cha 14

Feat: Shield Master
Weapon: Rapier

Go into Rogue 5, take Athletics and Stealth expertise.

You can keep your str at 16, your bonus action shove will grant you advantage on attacks. Your primary damage comes from sneak attack and smite. You won't be as good as a straight rogue or Paladin but good enough.

Now you fight like a cleric/paladin, a fight like a fighter, sneak like a rogue, fight like a rogue, and you just need some arcane spell casting... Dragon sorcerer is the best. Gives you bas 13 AC + 2 Dex + 2 Shield (17 ain't bad when you got no armor). Plus you can pick up some nice spells.

I would take subtle spell and quicken/twin. Also there are some fun cantrips to pick from.

Comes on a bit late... Earliers would be Paladin 1/ Rogue 2 / Sorcerer 1 BUT you don't have to rely on ability scores for melee work. Boost your Cha whenever you can.

Here you are, one Chameleon class. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?page=1&x=dnd/iw/20041210b) :smallwink:

@OP, 3.5 and 5e aren't that far apart by way of mechanics. With some minor tweaking for the math and 5e language, you could likely run this 'as is' as a Prestige Class; just follow the same rules as if you were multi-classing.

The problem is, the game this character is for starts at level one, and I'd like to get into it as soon as possible.

Here's a roguish archetype I made a month or two ago: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?487279-Roguish-Archetype-Totem-Elite-PEACH&highlight=Spirit+stalker
