From the book of Expirations, chapter 3, verses 1 to 5:

1 And in the end of days, the Bull, which is also called the Ravager, will rise. 2 It will fight not with weapon or spell, but with tooth and claw, and it will scour many lands. 3 And the Bull will be as a storm. 4 It shall kill the child, the mother, the father, the sage and the fool. 5 It shall kill the wealthy man, the beggar, the warrior and the maimed.

A storm of great proportions slowly drifts over the southern part of the Arcane Principality, where the desert meets the fertile plains. Lightning strikes a nearby hill, and the following thunderclap sends most of the nearby wildlife fleeing. A second lightning bolt comes down, hitting a dead tree and shattering it.

Suddenly, something that is neither rain nor lightning falls down from the clouds. At incredible speed it hits the ground, creating a small crater. The few animals that haven't fled yet do so now.

Hours pass, and the storm clears, and within the crater, something awakens. It rises, with the massive pit it occupies barely reaching its waist. The being clears the crater and turns north, where it knows its prey live.

Far above, the Storm Caller smiles.

Perditor's keen gaze travels over the surrounding lands. Trees struck by lightning, scorched patches of ground and the smell of ash all indicate the Storm Caller's fury, or perhaps joy.

But beyond this damaged area, miles to the north, Perditor can make out movement. Several large four-legged animals, as well as a smaller, humanoid creature, seem to be traveling. They are too far away for Perditor to make out any details, though.

Fun fact: your eyesight is actually better than an eagle's or hawk's, and those animals can spot small creatures from miles away. Spotting something four times as big from a few miles away seems possible.

Also, I trust the introduction was sufficiently metal? :smalltongue:

Perditor is quite sure the animals are sheep.

The monstrosity walks for almost half an hour before getting near his target. Once he approaches to within several hundred feet, the halfling (which Perditor now can see the humanoid is) seems to notice him.

The sheep are first to notice the approaching abomination, and scatter. Their halfling herder looks up, then spots Perditor. He stares in disbelief, or perhaps in fright.

Not sure if necessary, but:

Perditor covers nearly half the distance between him and his prey in a few seconds. Shocked by the monster rapidly charging towards him, the halfling starts running.

However, its short legs are no match for Perditor's swiftness. Once the halfling realizes it's not going to outrun its persuer, it turns and screams a few words Perditor does not understand. A small sphere of green liquid streaks from the halfling's fingertip... and completely misses Perditor.

Perditor knows what that was, that was magic. Arcane magic. Not only did this puny thing have the audacity to attack him, it tried to do it with arcane magic. With a roar of primal rage Perditor charges the puny creature and gores it with his horns.

2016-07-18, 06:16 AM
The halfling didn't have many possessions. A waterskin filled with clear water, a loaf of bread and some cheese wrapped in leather, his plain wool clothes, a wooden flute, and three copper pieces in a pocket. He also carried a long wooden stick, probably for herding the sheep.

Blackhawk748
2016-07-18, 04:53 PM
Perditor snorts, he wasnt expecting much. He rips and arm off of the body and tosses it a few feet away, then he shifts into his flight form and heads over to savage the sheep herd a bit. After all, he should make this look like some sort of wild animal attack, as he'd rather not reveal his presence just yet.

The sheep don't seem to have run very far before stopping and are easily located. Upon seeing the great bird above them some flee once more, but they are tired from their earlier flight and easy to catch up with.

Initiative seems unnecessary here, given that the sheep are basically just running away.

You can be at any distance from the sheep the moment combat begins.

Perditor swoops down and, one by one, starts killing the sheep. Sometimes the animals run off, but the monstrosity is swift enough to hunt them down again. Making it look like a predator attacked is easy: after all, it's basically what happened.

The sheep he devours tastes delicious.

Perditor travels around, letting his knowledge of natural terrain guide him, and eventually comes upon a perfect lair: a sizable cave in the side of a foothill of the Shieldmountains. It's a long, winding passage the monster can barely squeeze through, but eventually opens up in a great cave about fifty feet in all dimensions.

A few stray bones and a musky smell do imply something already lives here, though.

Perditor's no genius, but his knowledge of nature is impressive. Based on teeth marks on the bones and a few muddy paw-prints, the minotauric monster is able to deduce that whatever lives here must be a large feline of some sort. However, based on the paw prints it'd have to be enormous: easier bigger than a large tiger.

Blackhawk748

To the east, the terrain gets more mountainous as Perditor approaches the Shieldmountains. More caves are discovered, but none of them as spacious and well-located as the first one.

To the south lies the desert. It stretches out endlessly as a yellow-brown sea.

To the west are more of the hilly plains that characterize the halfling lands. The location of Perditor's first kill is there, too, still undisturbed except for a few carrion animals.

To the north, something more interesting is found: a road. It isn't a large road, but it's a clear path through the endless sea of grass. The road moves from the southeast to the northwest, but both location and destination can't be seen.

Perditor tosses the lions corpse into a corner (or a convenient nook if there isnt a corner) and sets about to piling up the bones by the lion's corpse. Once that is finished he tears off a leg and has a snack thinking about his next move.

He comes to the conclusion that, while massive and imposing, he is still only one. One who has almost no knowledge of his prey, and a hunter that doesnt know his prey is a dead hunter. With this thought in mind he gets up and leaves his cave, shifting into his flight form and takes off into the sky heading for the road he saw earlier.

Once he finds the road he follows it northeast from high up, trying to make himself seem smaller than he truly is.

There isn't really any large forest in this part of the continent, but there are places you can find spiders.

Perditor begins his search, aided by his keen gaze, knowledge of nature, and ability to travel quickly. Eventually, he stumbles upon a place that would be perfect for the creatures he's looking for. It's an overgrown depression between hills with a small brook flowing through, creating a sheltered, comfortable location a spider could easily survive.

This proves correct as Perditor notices several man-sized spider scurrying around beneath the foilage. They seem to be feeding on a dead animal.

There's sixteen small-sized spiders, five medium-sized specimens, and one large. All are of the hunter variety.

Perditor has sent 1 large monstrous spider, 5 medium monstrous spiders, and 7 small monstrous spiders towards the village.

I'm going to assume the casting of Call Lightning was a pre-battle buff, and the casting of Cloudburst and subsequent movement your surprise round action.

You were 300 feet away from the village at the start of the round, positioned behind a hill. I'm going to assume you moved 40 feet closer, which places you at 260 feet from the nearest house.

The spiders all ran forward, and their current distance to the village is 180 feet.

Some information on the village's look: there's wooden and stone buildings, but some houses have been dug in the hills instead (think hobbit holes).

The lightning bolt crashes down from the rain cloud. For a moment, the flash dazzles all, both spider and halfling, both monster and mage. Then, as Perditor's vision clears, he sees the house ablaze, with panicking halflings fleeing.

It's too bad for the halflings that the spiders reach the village just as they exit their home. The fastest of the anarchids immediately attack. The large spider takes a halfling down with a bite to the neck, his smaller brethren attack the remaining villagers, wounding one and killing another.

Suddenly, a flaming chunk of stone is flung forward from someplace Perditor can't see. It strikes one of the man-sized spiders square, burning a hole in its chitin and knocking it over. The spider lies twitching on its back, ichor oozing from a charred wound.

I hope you're okay with me not rolling out every attack in the halfling-spider fight. It's just that it takes the attention away from the scene's main focus (Perditor) and will make it difficult for me to run things smoothly.

A single spider was killed by a halfling who smashed its head with a shovel, but apart from that the battle was a perfect victory. All villagers are dead, the spiders are gorging themselves, and Perditor has only sustained a few injuries, all of them caused by halflings capable of casting damaging spells.

The door, already weakened from his first attempt, breaks. Another dozen halflings is revealed, but no spellcasters seem to be amongst those. The little humanoids scream in fear and try to move as far to the back of the room as possible.

Perditor is Huge/Large, while the halflings' door is a Small opening. You're not going to be able to move through normally, not even when squeezing.

The halflings are also out of your reach.

When all is over, Perditor and his spiders are the only remaining things in the village.

I thought another forward would be appropriate. No way the halflings would be able to get out of that one.

Perditor sits down outside the shattered house and starts eating a few of the halflings. They werent particularly filling, but they were delicious. As he eats he thinks about his next move. Perditor awakes, his mind still damaged and simple. The half-minotaur is shackled to a cold surface with steel chains, his limbs spread out. A few halflings wearing black robes are standing over Perditor, one of them holding a gleaming needle.

It appears the monster is in a brightly lit room, illuminated by burning wall-mounted orbs. Many sharp implements are arranged on racks, and a chart apparently detailing halfling anatomy hangs from the wall. Jars filled with clear fluid are standing on the floor in front of him.

"Now that we have observed the creature's exterior," the halfling holding the needle speaks, "we shall proceed with the dissection. I will make an incision in the subcutaneous abdominal vein, which shall allow us to observe the creature's blood vessels and begin research of the torso."

The halfling, who hasn't noticed Perditor is awake now yet, moves the needle to the monster's torso.

I guessed spending a day passed out counts as 'complete bedrest', so you have regained 2 points of intelligence.

Perditor can see no exits, but his field of view of limited right now. He can count four halflings, perhaps with more behind him.

Perditor lands on the ledge so he can rest and begin to formulate a new plan. He removes his wand and heals his injuries. The Halflings where small, but the little buggers could cast far to many spells and theree where just so many of them. As Perditor thought he realized his best bet was to attack the city at night, this would allow him to get in range before they knew what happened and let him summon a horde of creatures to deal with them.

With that in mind Perditor decides to take a little nap before nightfall.

One of the halflings retrieves a small, glowing sphere and smashes it on the ground. Sunlight erupts from its remains, clearly illuminating a section of the wall... as well as Perditor flying above it.

"The cow monster! It has returned!"

Perditor heads down the North road, still flying high

Inevitability

Perditor's journey north is largely ineventful. Some more villages are ravaged, some more animals devoured, but nothing truly worth mentioning happens.

The city Perditor eventually arrives at can only be recognized as a city by the road leading straight towards it. It would be best described as a large hill, with fortifications built on and into it. The road leads into a tunnel in the hillside (apparently closable with large wooden gates), lit by flickering torches. The places seems guarded well, and many guards can be seen on the lookout.
