What was the point of putting ranks in Perform Kazoo?

That means he's got Ranks in 3 different types of Perform (Lute, Song, Kazoo). Pretty suboptimal, don't ya think?

Most Bards will choose to spend Perform ranks in more than one instrument or ability. It's just good sense. That's one of the reasons they got the extra skill points in 3.5.

Since there is no rule in D&D for spraining your wrist or arm, nor is "kazoo" on the official list of instruments, one must remember that OotS is a comedy before trying to interpret things on the basis of actual rules.

It was a joke that is does not require analysis to be funny. It's funnier without analysis. There may not have been a reason for him to put ranks in Perform (Kazoo) other than for humorous purposes.

My last two PCs had ranks in kazoophony, and even had masterwork kazoos.

Also, IRL, I happen to be one of the world's foremost authorities on kazoophony, and own hundreds of them.

Its simple, if he is engaged in a fight using his dashing swordsman skills, he can hold his kazzo in his mouth like groucho marx holds a cigar, and alternate between witty quips and a song perfomed on the kazoo without stopping the fight.

I believe that Elan has ranks in Perform (Oratory) (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0421.html) in addtion to Perform (Kazoo), Perform (Sing), and Perform (String Instruments).

On a side note, wouldn't you put ranks in Perform (Wind Instrument) to play the kazoo?

Maybe he took the ranks to salivate less when playing Kazoo... I sometimes play Kazoo and after about 32 bars the thing is dripping which does not look really cool and would impair one's Charisma for being icky.

Ifn you lose your voice you still ar capable of making enough noise to play the kazoo.
Anyway a bard should be able to play a more than just one instrument, have ranks in a few, including some more unusual ones just makes good bard sense.

Which is why IMC Perform isn't split up. Neither is Knowledge either (and I use the name "Lore" for the skill since it has better flavor than the mechanical 'Knowledge')
