For five years, the faithful of Sandpoint have attended church in temporary structures erected after fire destroyed the previous temple, and while their new religious leader was helpful, kind, and wise, church wasn’t the same. Now, the new cathedral is finally done. All that remains is for the Swallowtail Festival to renew the site’s blessings from the gods and it will be as if the Sandpoint Fire had never occurred.

Those who head north from Magnimar along the rocky coastline quickly find themselves in a peculiar country. Fog drapes the rolling landscape, floating spectrally along damp and lonely moors. Small woodlands grace the region, their tangled depths redolent of nettles and pepperwood and pine sap, while further inland, river valleys lined by majestic redwoods wind between ragged tors and limestone escarpments. This vastness and the sense of isolation have earned the region its local name. This is the Lost Coast.

Yet there are pockets of civilization along the Lost Coast. Traditional Varisian campsites can be found in nearly every gulch and hollow along the cliff-lined reaches, and lonely houses sit upon bluffs now and then—domiciles for eccentrics or the rich seeking a bit of peace far from the bustle of Magnimar’s streets. Roadside inns grace the Lost Coast road every 24 miles or so, placed by virtue of the distance most travelers can walk given a day’s travel.

Low stone shrines to Desna, goddess of wanderers and patron of the Varisians, give further opportunities for shelter should one of the all-too-common rainstorms catch the traveler unaware. Given time, any of these seeds of civilization could bloom into a fullgrown town, or even a city. It’s happened once already, along the shores of a natural harbor nestled among the cliffs some 50 miles northeast of Magnimar. What was once a larger-than-normal Varisian campsite in the shadow of an ancient ruined tower has become the Lost Coast’s largest town: Sandpoint.

As one approaches the town of Sandpoint, the footprint of civilization upon the Lost Coast grows more clear. Farmlands in the outlying moors and river valleys grow more numerous , and the blue-green waters of the Varisian Gulf bear more and more fishing vessels upon the waves . Passage over creeks and rivers is more often accomplished by wooden bridge than ford, and the Lost Coast Road itself grows wider and better kept. Sight of Sandpoint from either approach (south or east) is kept hidden by the large upthrust limestone pavements known as the Devil's Platter and the arc of the rocky outcroppings and lightly forested hilltops that rise up just east of town, but as the final bend in the road is rounded, Sandpoint's smoking chimneys and bustling streets greet the traveler with open arms and the promise of warm beds, a welcome sight indeed for those who have spent the last few days alone on the Lost Coast Road.

From the south, entrance to Sandpoint is governed by a wooden bridge, while from the north a low stone wall gives the town a bit of protection. Here, the Lost Coast Road passes through a stone gatehouse that is generally watched by one or two guards; the southern bridge is typically unattended.

Aside from the occasional goblin, the citizens of Sandpoint have traditionally had little cause to worry about invasion or banditry, the region simply isn't populated enough to make theft a lucrative business . Hanging from a bent nail at both the gatehouse and the southern bridge is a sign and a mirror-painted on each sign is the message: "Welcome to Sandpoint! Please stop to see yourself as we see you! "

Nazel slowly approached Sandpoint from the southern road, he gripped his whip that was clipped to his belt as he walked into town, He was cautious being around new people as he stood out from all the humans that would be attending standing over six feet tall and being a Dhampir did not help in being inconspicuous, even while wearing basic adventures clothes. He held his coin bag with his free hand and felt the coins in the bag taking count. A Little short, maybe i can make some easy coin with this festival thing coming up ,he thought to himself as he looked around for the closest Pub to 'set up shop' as he calls it

Marcellus stands tall, a fair complexion, and innocent blue eyes glisten at the slightest light. Long black hair tied behind his head, he sports a goatee on his chin. Glittering silver scale-mail covers his torso and his legs. He walked with large frayed boots that looked as though they’d seen quite a bit of walking. On his Back he wields a massive blade sheathed gingerly in cheap leather.

The man walked the path towards civilization, after several days of travel he looked worn and fatigued. He surveyed the area taking in the scenery before heading over towards the bridge heading into town, he stopped to read the sign on the front: Nodding his head with a goofy smile he looks at his reflection for a moment, then made his way into the town admiring his surroundings as the townsfolk prepare for the festival.

Natalia walks up to the gate on the north side from the Lost Coast Road. Her long hair flowing down the front side of her scale mail, braided tied at the bottom. The sun gleams across the iron symbol around her neck she wears proudly. Head held high as she walks down, greatsword at her back in a worn out sheath ready to draw it at a moments notice. Not too tall but not too short she walks up to the sign hanging off the nail and reads aloud "Welcome to Sandpoint! Please stop to see yourself as we see you!" She admires herself in the mirror fixes her bangs a little, smiles and says to the guards as she passes through "You can thank Gorum for my presence." She strolls down Church Street and hears the commotion of the festival. Curious she heads toward the noise.

Denna spots her home from the Lost Coast Road as she makes her way back from her most recent hunting trip. Smoke billows from the chimneys of Brokestone Alley, a promise of sweet festival foods to come.

She brushes off her hunter green hide shirt, knowing her mother will fuss over the dirt. She checks the rest of her clothing for more filth, but the faded dark leather pants and black boots hide the dark soil of the forest fairly well. Anyway, she can't be bothered to look entirely perfect, she is about to walk in with a bag of game and several herbs, after all. She takes the cord from her chestnut hair and shakes it, reties it to keep it out of her dark green eyes. The cord had started to give her a headache, but it's too hot to leave it down.

Behind her walks her faithful companion, Devi. The lioness is still undersized, just like Denna herself. They cross the bridge together, ignoring the familiar sign, and Denna waves to several townspeople in the streets preparing for the festival, flashing them small, close-lipped smiles. Her house looms closer on her left, and she ducks into the shade as she maneuvers toward the door.

Red eyes stared at the sheet of paper before her, a disgruntled sigh escaping ruby red lips. How long had she been staring at this picture? Notes and arrow drawn over it, that even she was starting to get confused. Pale hands pushed back a strand of silvery white hair behind her ear, allowing it to fall into place with the other long strands.

The was a soft knock at the door.“ Miss Nixis, you been in there quite a while and the festival is starting soon...would you...would you like to join me?”a man’s voice echoed from the other side of her door. She tried to think whom it must be. Most likely the bar keep ,he had been quite the flirt earlier. Nixis , bit her bottom lip in thought. She had been working for a while and it wouldn’t kill her to have a little fun would it? After all , festivals was one of the few things she enjoyed, they were one of the few things that brought her back to her kitsune roots.

She opened the door and gave the man a smile. I need to wrap up a bit here, but how about I meet you down there shortly?” the man eagerly nodded , she watched him walk down the hall before going back to her room. She had been in this inn longer than normal, it had been almost a week. She straightened out her papers rolling them carefully and placing them in her belt pouch.

There was a small mirror in the inn room. She examined herself. A short , but strong frame stared back at her. Her clothes were rather plain. A simple chain shirt underneath a worn out red dress. It was a stark contrast against her skin. She strapped her Kukri to her waist and her Starknife to the strap on her back. She glanced once more in the mirror, before leaving her room and heading towards the festival. She wasn’t quite sure what to call the flutterly feeling in her stomach. Was it excitement. It has been a while since Nixis had let loose.

In the town square, the low call of a horn signals the start of the festival. The large empty area before the church quickly becomes crowded as locals and travelers arrive, and several merchant tents featuring food, clothes, local crafts , and souvenirs are there to meet them.

The turnout for the opening speeches is quite respectable, and the four keynote speakers each deliver short but well-received welcomes to the festival. Mayor Deverin's friendly attitude and excitement prove contagious as she welcomes visitors to town and jokes about how even Larz Rovanky, the local tanner (and notorious workaholic) managed to tear himself away from the tannery to attend, much to everyone's amusement (except Larz's).

Sheriff Belor Hemlock brings the crowd down a bit with his dour mood, his reminder to be safe around the evening's bonfire, and his request for a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives in the fire that claimed the town's previous church several years ago.

The next speaker is scheduled to be local nobleman Lonjiku Kaijitsu, but a sudden illness has prevented him from attending the ceremony (this isn't something that surprises the locals, given Lonjiku's well-known dislike of frivolity and festivals). Sandpoint's own showman Cyrdak Drokkus is more than up to the challenge of bringing the crowd's mood back up with his rousing anecdotes. He delivers a not-completely-irreverent recap of the long process the town went through to finance and construct the new cathedral. He throws in a bit of self* promotion at the end, as is his wont, inviting everyone to stop by the Sandpoint Theater the following evening to check out his new production of "The Harpy's Curse," revealing that the lead role of Avisera the harpy queen will be played by none other than the famous Magnimarian diva Allishanda!

Finally, Father Zantus steps up to give a short speech thanking everyone for coming before declaring the Swallowtail Festival underway.

Nazel walked aimlessly with the crowed ignoring any pubs he went past, he was enthralled by the amount of people who showed up to this festival All this commotion and celebration for a mere church? nothing truly must not go on around here for that to be a reason to party he thought to himself, eyes rolling at the thought of a church. He made his way to the heart of the celebration and stood between two busy food stalls looking out into the crowed Who will be the lucky one tonight he said under his breath as he looked for his next target

Marcellus let himself be swept up in the excitement of the town, the lively festival and all it's attractions made all seemed so welcoming he could hardly contain his excitement as he wandered up and down the merchant's stalls.

He waved and smiled at anyone who passed close enough. "Good day!" - "Greetings!" - "Hail friend!" his cheerful demeanor typically inspired a warm salutation or at the very least a small grin and a nod.

Being an easily amused man, He stopped at nearly everyone just to browse the wares his bright blue eyes wide with excitement and wonder. He wandered for a good while, perusing until the smell of fresh baked pastries filled his nostrils with their warm, sweet aroma.

His eyes scanned the area to find it's source making his way towards what he assumed was a baker's cart.

It was like this for everything until she saw the arm wrestling competition sheet, without hesitation she signed herself up! Giddy at the chance to showcase her strength, this 5"3' tall Ulfen woman began to scope out her competition scoffing at some she felt would be easy to beat and contemplating the gentleman she felt might actually be a challenge. Denna had washed up and was out and about among the festivities. She crept along behind most booths, unheard and unseen, the way she liked it.

She had one destination in mind: the tanner's stall. Her parents' anniversary was in a few days, and she needed a present. Two leather cuffs, carefully branded with the other's initials, seemed appropriate for 25 years.

She could smell the stall before she saw it, deep rich leather and oils perfuming the air.

"Come on, Dev. Let's make mother proud." She gave her companion a rare smile, the kind she reserved only for Devi and her father, and made her way out from behind the booths and into the crowd.

Natalia's wanderings have taken her to one of Sandpoints inns, The Hagfish. She enters and is greeted by the sights and sounds one might expect from a sailors tavern of choice. The room is unpainted, with a simple coat of varnish protecting the wood from the elements and the more common hazard, spilled ale. There is a battered boat wheel hanging from the wall near a spherical tank baring the namesake of the inn, A hagfish. The room is by all accounts very clean for a popular sailors spot and you suspect the lack of dust to be a recent feature brought on by the coming of the festival.

After Natalia signs up she is instructed by the man at the bar to wait for her name to be called. As she looks on she sees a match already in progress between two well muscled men... by Chelish standards. After the match is decided a peg-lagged man come into view and declares the winner to a roar of cheers from the crowd. he then announces the next two contestants and the match proceeds much as the previous.

After several matches the man, who has since announced himself as the inns owner, Jargie Quinn, announces Natalia's name. You come to the front with very little fanfare, the patrons not entirely used to foreigners, and take your seat opposite a moderately well built blacksmith.

"Gr-greetins Denna, wh-what can I do for you today." He stammers out bashfully.

She had arrived for the last parts of the speeches and she was pretty amazed at the turnout. Then again, everyone believed in something right? This church as silly as it seemed to her, was what this town believed in, so she would try to respect that of them.

Her eyes fell upon the barkeep what was his name again…. William? That sounded right. He hurriedly waved her over. You came Miss Nixis! She raised her eyebrow slightly confused. You doubted me? I said I would. William turned a bright red, as he raised his arm to push back a piece of his sandy colored hair with a laugh I just ..I just didn’t think you take me up on my offer is all… but I’m very happy you did. I have something for you!

He opened up the bag and pulled out what to Nixis looked like a wreath, then he moved towards her wreath in hand and instinctively she gripped the kukri by her waste and flinched ever so slightly as he placed the wreath on her head. She slowly let her grip go on the kukri and relaxed the tension in her shoulders. She hid it well with a well placed smile and laugh once she realized what had happened. And he didn’t seem to notice her uneasiness. Perfect. he grinned My sister is running the flower crown booth and I asked her for the best one. You are lovely.

Nixis touched the flower crown that laid on her head. She wasn't used to such frivolousness. The flowers would die and then you have nothing. She supposed it was kind thing though and she reminded herself that this was fun. And wasn’t that what she wanted after a growling couple of weeks of trying to complete her mission? She repeated the mantra in her head. It is okay to have a night for yourself. It is okay to have fun. It is okay… she didn’t know if she truly believed that, but she would try. You are sweet. I’m sure you say that to all the ladies who pass through the inn. Come now, I know you don’t have much time before you need to get back, I’m sure it will be very busy tonight. He nodded as they headed towards the main part of the festival.

Her eyes continually scanned the crowd. Even when she tried to let losses, she was still very much aware. She wished she could turn that paranoia off, if even for a little while. They walked around a bit William stopping to talk to friends and introducing her, she smiled softly and when asked what she was doing here, she simply would reply just passing through as I look for an old acquaintance. They nodded and did not pry further. William bought her, in her opinion the best piece of pie she had ever tasted and a number of other festival food. She devoured everything of course, unsure when she be able to eat this well again. Certain that William would be destitute after his time and money out with her.

As they continued walking Nixis spotted some people playing music and dancing. A part of her that she thought was long dead ,physically ached to join them and to her surprise William picked up on it. Do you want to Dance Miss Nixis? she shook her head and bit her bottom lip suppressing those long dead feelings. No I don’t dance. Not anymore. she stated firmly. To Williams credit he did not pry more. He had to get back to the inn. He thanked her for a wonderful time, and offered to walk back with her to the inn. She declined, but after much urging promised she would stop and say hello when she got back. He grinned proudly and very boldly kissed her on the check before taking off.

She lightly placed her hand on her cheek as she watched him disappear in the crowd. Her brow furrowed in confusion and anger and….sadness? What a fool. He must know she would be gone soon. It was all just a waste of time. All of it. She let her hand fall to her side, before letting her eyes rest once again on the small group of dancers.

Marcellus did not register the woman at first - His eyes wide and mouth agape at the heavenly smell of the baked goods on display, it had been sometime since he'd had anything other than burnt animal meat or fish.

" Oh- Hey! He chuckled nervously "I was just admiring your cooking! It smells absolutely delightful!"

The Woman smiles warmly Thank you kind sir, my name is Aneka Avertin and I guarantee this is the best bread in all of Sandpoint! Aside from my delicacies what brings you here? Her eyes scan the stranger's large frame, scaled armor and rest on the hilt of his sword

Pleased to meet you Miss Avertin! I am Marcellus Stroud, I was just passing through the countryside when I heard tell of the festival and had to check it out! This town is so full of life, and everyone seems so friendly His eyes turned to the stall

The woman raised an eyebrow Oh? Traveling the Countryside? It's not very hospitable around these parts. What are you, a Warrior, a Knight?

Marcellus looked up from his browsing and smiled at the woman Me? He stands straight up and puffs out his chest I am a Paladin! A humble servant of Iomedae. I've come to this Land because where I'm from there are a whole lot of us wandering about so I thought I'd go where I'm needed, y'know?

The woman laughed at this grandiose introduction and shakes her head Very well, Sir Stroud, what can I a humble baker do for you? Her eyes flutter as she drinks in his masculine features

Marcellus blinks and smiles - oblivious I would like a sweet roll please! He reaches for his coin pouch when the woman raises her hand

Oh no! Please take one on the House! The woman smiles again as she hands him a roll

Marcellus' eyes light up and a toothy smiles spreads across his face Wow! Thank you! That's really kind of you Miss!

The Baker smiles and stares at Marcellus, her eyes still tracing his body So... Sir Paladin, is there anything ELSE I might be able to get you? She smiles coyly

Marcellus looks at her, a mouth full of Sweet roll and an innocent look on his face before answering in a muffled tone "NOFE!" And he turned on his heel and wandered back into the crowd of villagers to explore more of what the festival had to offer.

"Oh, thank the Wind and Waves," Denna exclaims. "It's you. I thought I was going to have to deal with Larz directly, and you know he hates me so." Denna laughs, and Landik seems to relax a bit. His next words don't stutter at all.

"Well, if you did not put a new order in once a week, he might like you more," he says, smiling. "I swear at this point your entire home must be covered in a pelt or hide of some sort." He chuckles, and Denna blushes.

"I try to take care of them, really I do! It is just-"

"Just that you continue to go hunting every day in the woods with a large feline with four inch claws?" he interrupts. "It is a wonder you have any clothing left!" he says, and immediately blanches. "I- I- I did not mean for that to sound so inappropriate, Miss Leochles! My apologies."

"Accepted, but unnecessary," Denna smiles in her small way, and moves on to her business at once, like flipping a lever from friendly to professional. "I need two leather cuffs. One male and one female. The male needs to have 'DML' monogrammed on, and the female needs 'KTL'."

"Getting something for someone dear, I see," says Landik, and his face falls slightly. He is hiding his disappointment very well.

"Well, yes," says Denna, flushing an even deeper red, her turn to be bashful, "and no. They're for my parents' anniversary." She has attempted to say this as casually as possible, without a single stitch of luck, because Landik sees every word as meaningful.

"Of course," he says, smiling again, "I'll get you a quote from Larz on prices." He looks away, and then looks down at his counter. "Meet back here after midday to discuss it?"

Denna stammers a bit, and finally manages a weak, "Yes, that will be alright," and frantically flees from the stall. Devi follows, somehow managing to look smug, though she could not possibly be smug. Denna doesn't know how she feels about this situation, but she knows she'll be waiting at the tanner's stall as soon as was considered appropriate.

Aneka Blinks, confused, as the young paladin walks away from the cart. She manages to compose herself enough to call out to him before he gets out of earshot. "Oh, uh... T-tell your friends to visit Sandpoint Savories!" She stammers out. Almost forgetting to advertise her mothers bakery.

"For now yes, My sister is running the baked goods stall over there." She says, motioning in the direction of the cart. "I'll have to return after lunch for my shift so she can enjoy the festival as well. your not from around here are you? where ya from stranger?"

Nazel looked over at the cart then back to her "very observant" he smiled trying to avoid the question "From all over really, i'm a simple adventurer."

Her senses blunted by his charisma. Arika takes the answer. "And what brings you to our simple little town."

"The sites and the people mainly, I love a good party" he smiled warming, he did enjoy a good time

"I would have figured a traveler like you would have headed for a bigger town. Magnimar has so much more going on than boring old Sandpoint even during festival times." She responds, casting a longing glance southword to Sandpoints much larger sister city.

"I figure I’ll stop by that town after this festival, but for now there is a festival going on right now that I can experience"

"Very well then. What sort of fun were you looking for today?" She says, raising an eyebrow suggestively.

He let out a soft chuckled as he leaned closer towards her and spoke softly in her ear "Depends how much time you have my dear"

The two then leave together. Headed for the nearest inn.

At noon, Father Zantus and his acolytes wheel a large covered wagon into the square, and after recounting the short parable of how Desna first fell to earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child who she transformed into an immortal butterfly as a reward for her aid, they pull aside the wagon’s cover, releasing the thousand children of Desna—a furious storm of a thousand swallowtail butterflies that swarm into the air in a spiraling riot of color to a great cheer from the crowd. Throughout the rest of the day, children futilely chase butterflies, never quite quick enough to catch them.

Lunch is provided free, at the expense of Sandpoint’s taverns. Each brings its best dishes—this event is a marketing push by the taverns as much to win new customers as it is to feed a hungry crowd. It soon becomes apparent that the darling of the lunch is, once again, Ameiko Kaijitsu, whose remarkable curry-spiced salmon and early winterdrop mead easily overshadow the other offerings, such as the Hagfish’s lobster chowder or the White Deer’s peppercorn venison.

Nixis grew tired of the self-pity she felt from watching the dancers. She drew her eyes away from them and began aimless wondering. Thoughts kept fluttering in her head that she should be on the lookout for her mission. Her target, but her heart just wasn't in it today. She was still ever vigilante. Watching the crowds, she caught glimpse of an impossible large gentleman and a women hurrying off and she smirked slightly. A festival certainly was the time for merry making, she walked and purchased some more food. If there was one thing she could do was eat. She took her fresh roll and went to sit underneath the shade of the tree about to take a big bite into the buttery goodness before her.

A rather well dressed man approaches Nixis. "well hello young miss, you don't look to be from around here either, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Aldern Foxglove. He announces, taking a small bow and a large smile.

Nixis looked at the man who approached her. Analyzing him. He was dressed rather well. Was he nobility? She wasn't quite certain yet but it appeared as such. She was a little on edge unsure why he would approach her. With a heavy heart she wrapped the bun up slightly and stood up. Disliking the advantage he had over her when she was sitting. Instead of showing her uneasiness she flashed him a radiant smile. You would be correct, sir. What gave it away? her voice was light almost like a whisper. Years of training to be quiet could be attributed to that. “I’m Nixis Belladonna.

"My dear, if you follow the eyes you will always find the most interesting person. Everyone in this town knows one another, but from the looks of it, no one here knows you. May I ask what brings you to this region?"

Nixis titled her head with a smirk So you've been watching me then hmm she said with a light laugh feeling out this man and his intentions. She was always so naturally suspicious. I'm just passing through, was asked to deliver a message for a friend of mine. I agreed I've always loved traveling, but I must say I did get a little distracted and stayed a little longer in this town. she smiled warmly Enjoying the festival? Everyone seems quite pleased to have the church back up

"Indeed I am Miss Belladonna, it's so lovely to get away from the big city from time to time and see how people get on outside of Magnimar. These folks have spent the last 5 years worshipping in the town hall and the theatre, not exactly prime examples of spiritual purity." He says the last part lower and with a comedic tilt of the eyebrow. "They are overjoyed to finally be able to say they are rid of the last reminders of the late unpleasantness.

But alas my beautiful friend, I must be off as I have business to attend to" He says with another small bow.

So he’s from magnimar she thought to herself, rather interesting he would travel here for the festival. She smirked slightly well yes, but you can prey anywhere, the gods will still hear Well, it was nice to meet you, until we meet again she gave a small curtsy as she watched him walk away. Curious she thought to herself, she decided to head back towards the in, perhaps she would take a quick cat nap as she definitely wanted to come back later for the night time festivities
