Sorry for the clickbait title. I did a search on this topic, but didn't get any easy hits.

This is about the adventuring day XP compared to the level earned.

My finding is a PC in an ideal campaign goes from 1st level to 20th level in 31 adventuring days.

So my question is, does this make sense to you? Anyone seen/done it?

Don't forget that combat encounter XP is supposed to be scaled based on the number of monsters in the combat, but you award XP based off of the actual XP, not the scaled XP. So many encounters, especially at higher levels, will award significantly less XP than they're budgeted for.

I guess it depends on the pace of the game, but I would never advance characters from 1-20 in a month of game time. Maybe if there was a month of downtime per adventuring day, this would make sense. That would be just under 3 years of game time to reach level 20, which still seems a bit fast to me, but closer to the right pace.

Make sure you aren't using the xp that is multiplied by the multiple enemy factor, only the original xp worth for a creature based on its cr is awarded, not the multiplied amount.

It depends on the campaign. I could see that list working for a campaign where lots of other things happen over spans of time with flurries of "Oh my god, how did we survive that." If you literally do all that to a party in 31 days while following all the rules, I doubt the party would survive.

Sounds fun, I think you could create such an adventure pretty easily, although it would maybe require close proximity for all the encounters if every single day was intended to add +1 levels to the group.

For example, the first night of one of the dragon queen modules has enough xp potential to level a party of 4 several times.

Yeah, I built a chart similar to that using the entries from the DMG/SRD. People just blew it off saying that I didn't understand how xp was calculated for encounters even though it has nothing to do with that.

Although if you do go by the xp/day guidelines in the book my table has it as 150 days to go from level 1 to level 20.
