I'm running into this issue while trying to make some custom monsters for a game tommorrow. Let's say I have a monster with the Undead Fortitude trait and resistance to nonmagical physical (bludegoning, slashing, peircing) damage. Let's say the monster is CR 2.
The Undead Fortitude trait says that at CR 2, we increase the effective HP of the monster by 7 for the purpose of determining Defensive Challenge Rating.
Resistance to nonmagical physical damage at CR 2 means we double the effective hit points for determining Defensive Challenge Rating.
So, what applies first? If X is Actual HP, does Effective HP equal 2(X + 7) or 2X + 7? It shouldn't usually be enough to change the Defensive Challenge Rating, but in the few edge cases it does, what would it be?
