View Full Version : Roleplaying Roleplaying suggestions for odd mental stats

How would you roleplay a character with an intelligence of 6, a wisdom of 4, and a charisma of 18? Would such a character even be possible from a roleplaying standpoint? Would intelligence and wisdom scores that low prevent the character from forming useful sentences or trains of thought, and if so, could they even be as charismatic as the 18 represents?

I imagine playing a character like that would be primarily like playing a particularly gullible puppy. You're not too bright and not too wise, but people love you for something anyway.

Charisma can be nonverbal and passive.

An Int 6 Wis 4 character would still be able to think and speak however they would not be known for their ideas.

Hmm.

I can see them followed by people like: "We know they a naïve and innocent, they might not be able to guide the way to their vision. However they deserve a better world than this. So we rise such that their vision will become a reality. We shall make earth into heaven in their name."

I can see them as an idealistic child with the best of intention but without the knowledge or wisdom to turn that intention into reality. However good followers can help with that.

That guy from that movie where the interviewer gets hired to assassinate a certain North Korean? Something Skylark? That guy.

This is going to be someone with a very high EQ - able to express and interpret emotional states very well and due to their highly nuanced sense of others' attitudes able to interact with others in ways that generate positive feedback. On the other hand, this is going to be someone who has difficulty understanding complex concepts and demonstrates poor judgement.

I imagine this person could be played a variety of ways, but for me I would do a really likable redneck. It's Larry the Cable Guy! (The character, not the comedian who plays the character. That guy is really very smart!) Edit: and for you younger kids you can just say Mater from Cars.

Nearly every clueless brawler from cartoons
Oozes charisma out of every pore
One desperately wants to be their friend/partner/ally... But there are moments in which one just wants to smack them.

At Int 6 (-2) there is a 50/50 (actually a 55%) chance they can't perform "very easy" tasks like: "Can you look through the cluttered drawers to find X" unless they take 20. This suggests they either keep their underwear drawer very tidy, take forever to get dressed, or freeball on most days

At Wis 4 (-3): they can't even get reliable hunches that stuff might be off, and would routinely fail by more than 4.
Best case scenario then, if in a party where the party is about to be caught in a trap (by taking their time to read the room) nothing looks off; and routinely fails to read the room so badly that assumes something good is gonna happen.

Bards cast from Charisma. Pretty sure Elan's got sub-10 Int and Wis (Vaarsuvius is of the opinion (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0127.html) that Elan's Intelligence is insufficient to cast wizard cantrips), though not as bad as the OP's proposed character.

This is starting to make more sense! I like the idea of an almost childlike naivete, and an ability to read emotional cues easily (probably because he's an emotional and instinctive creature at heart). Perhaps his lack of both intelligence and wisdom means he sees the world as an inherently good place and that positive outlook makes people want to be around him?

Huh; I was certain they needed both stats to cast... Rereading the srd I dunno where that idea came from.

"Stupid but self-confident"
"Stupid but charming"
"Stupid but cute"

'Stupid' in every way, socially and intellectually, but pure charm and confidence saves their social and intellectual bacon, most of the time.

DAT ***.

I wouldn't have posted it, but someone linked to a picture of Kronk, and I am pretty sure that was the canonical reason he was hired.

I also think that Gaston probably has a reasonable intelligence score, since he operates a fire arm without nearly killing himself constantly. Then again, Belle's father, if I recall correctly, tended to get himself hurt a lot with his inventions. Now that I think about it, that village really needed to increase their genetic diversity...

Play Donald Trump. Immensely charismatic, completely out of touch with reality, and has minimal self awareness.

I think Forrest is pretty charismatic himself

Forrest is also immensely wise, however. Case in point:

And I had that house of your father's bulldozed to the ground

He had no clue why that house had angered Jenny so much, but he knew *something* about had caused her so much distress. It was one of the only things he could think about to do after her passing.

Hey beavis... heh heh heh...

I was actually going to do this in pfs. Get a friend to go sorceror with, drop int and wis, all our skill points into perform comedy, and we would be beavis and butthead.

Get the feat that allows us to use perform in place of other skill check...

And all our spells would be accompanied with "Hey guys, watch this..."

Why not Bard, which gains it's powers from perform (comedy)?
