Hello!

We've been trying to put a party of four PCs together for a 1st to 4th level game and we were wondering what combination of characters cover all the bases.

So far we were thinking:
Wood Elf Monk (Tank + Spotter)
Half Elf Bard (Healer + "Face")
Human Rogue (Stealth + Traps)
Forest Gnome Wizard (Brains)

Do these complement each other? What alternate party combinations would you recommend?

Perhaps:

- A wood elf 4 elements monk with water whip
- An air genasi 4 elements monk with fist of unbroken air
- A hill dwarf 4 elements monk with fist of four thunders
- A wood elf ranger with a boomerang.

Perhaps the water monk and the Ranger are siblings, the dwarf is blind, and the genasi comes from a race of ancient nomads.

It's a Gaang of four...

On a more serious note, a wizard, fighter, rogue and cleric is a battle tested combination proven to be effective.

And the BBEG could be a Tiefling 4 elements monk with sweeping cinder strikes! :D

Don't forget the:

- V Human (elemental adept fire) Arcane Trickster, son of the BBEG and secretly a Folk Hero
- Tiefling Eldritch knight, admiral of the National army
- Wood elven Moon druid, love interest of the Ranger
- Wise hill dwarven dragon sorcerer (fire), brother of the BBEG
- Tiefling Fiend Warlock with Witch Bolt, daughter of the BBEG

@Axorfett: Did consider about the classic "Wizard, Fighter, Rogue & Cleric" combo but that it lacked the high charisma "Face" character. Yes the Fighter is more tanky than the Monk and a high wisdom cleric would cover the "Spotter" aspect.

What about Wizard, *Paladin*, Rogue & Cleric instead? Extra healing and a high charisma PC for the NPC interactions.

A rogue could easily cover the face aspect. Rogues are pretty SAD in 5e, and Charisma benefits them. Paladin should work just fine.

Particularly if the Rogue goes for Swashbuckler at 3rd level

Precisely. With expertise he doesn't even need a high Charisma. In the event you wanted a thief or arcane trickster rather than swashbuckler.
