How do bonus spells work?

Do you know an extra spell of that level or do you get an extra spell-slot of that level?

The bonus spells from ability scores provide only extra daily spell slots, not extra spells known. There are, however, a couple things that provide extra spells known - of particular note are the Bloodline feats in Dragon Compendium, but the Dragon Disciple is another one that springs to mind.

Bonus spells from -what-? From a high ability score? Those are spell slots.
