View Full Version : WW VIII: Leaders, Villagers, and a Guardian Wolf, oh my! (Recruitment Thread)

2007-07-05, 07:52 AM
Schedule:

Recruitment Period: July 5th - August 4th.
Roles Distributed: August 5th.
Game Begins: August 6th

(Schedule confirmed w/Lucky)

Welcome to the 8th installment of the Werewolf series. If you are unfamiliar with the Werewolf setup or rules, please see past games as examples. (I'll try to link the original rules here, I am pretty sure Lucky has a copy of them).

Back in January I suggested a type of WW game and I got pretty good reception, so that's why I decided to run it as WW VIII. Here's the way it works:

Paranoia!!
Nobody knows who anyone is, including the werewolves. Each of you will give given your role via PM, and then it will be up to you to discover who is what.

Each werewolf sends in their choice of a victim to the narrators (Lucky and myself), and then the victim with the most votes is torn apart in the middle of the night.

While this may seem to put the werewolves at a distinct disadvantage, it doesn't, do to the fact that the Village is made up of Villagers and Leaders. Each day everyone will vote for who should be lynched. A villager's vote does not count. A werewolve's vote does not count. Only the leaders' votes count.

This adds in another layer of mystery as a person with more general votes may not necessarily get lynched. It will be up to each player to figure out who is who.

Roles: Villagers/seer/Guardian Wolf/leaders/werewolves/baners

Team Villager: Members of team villager win if all werewolves (not including the Guardian Wolf) are eliminated from the game.

Villagers: You are a member of the village (name of village to be voted on by the players). Scries as: Villager.

Seer: You have a third eye, the ability to see beyond the disguises of others and reveal their true physical form. Scries as: Seer.

Guardian Wolf (Baner): You are a strong-willed individual, cursed with lycanthropy. You have been able to refrain from killing innocent humans, and have taken it upon yourself to defend the village from the evil werewolves. Scries as: Werewolf.

Leader: You are a leader of the village, a respected voice among your peers, what you say, they generally listen to. Leaders are told that they are Villagers in the beginning of the game. Scries as: Leader.

Team Werewolf: Members of Team Werewolf win when all Leaders have been eliminated from the game.

Werewolf: You are cursed with lycanthropy, and descend into madness each night, slaughtering villagers to satisfy your hunger. Scries as: Werewolf.

Devil: You are a werewolf, but in addition, you are able to see beyond the disguises of others and reveal their true physical forms. Scries as: Devil.

As usual, days will last 48 hours, nights 24 hours. Myself or Lucky (assuming he is still on-board, waiting to hear from him) will update after each day/night.

Regardless of what role you get, if you do not vote twice in a row, you will be auto-lynched from the game.

Roles will be revealed upon death.

I am sure I am missing something important, but I can't think of it. You may have some questions you will want to ask and I will try to answer them all in a timely manner.

Ok, sign up and let's see how many people we have to work with.

I'll play.

One question, if the werewolves all vote for a werewolf, does he get torn apart? Wouldn't they all kinda stop and go - oh look, he's one of us?

I love the way the baner scries as werewolf:

Devil scries baner
Devil PMs baner - hi I'm the devil and you're a werewolf I see.
Baner PMs Devil, that's right guv - found any others of us yet?

and so on :)

This promises to be a very chaotic game with the wolves not knowing each other and the baner scrying as being on the wrong side. I'm in.

I had considered that, but for balance purposes it wouldn't work to give them that immunity. I attributed it to their super hunger & madness that they'd tear another werewolf apart. And that they are evil :P

This game is kind of similar to a game that Helgraf and I were working on, but this one is much simpler.

Helgraf, you didn't happen to save the PM about that game, did you?
I seem to have accidentally deleted it.

Nevermind.
I found it way down on page two of my box.
So I guess it's time to reveal this, huh?
Give me the go and I'll show 'em, Helgy.

[edit]
Screw it.
I'm going to go post the rules in WW Central.
Since alot of the ideas/rules are the same, we'll see how this one goes and then give ours a shot later.

Oh, and in!
Oh, and I vote for Lucha Llamadore!

I'll play along, but it doesn't seem as if it will be much fun for plain villagers.

How do they affect the game in any way whatsoever? Their votes don't count. All they can do is just talk in the thread. Sure, ok you're camouflage for the leaders, but thats it.

Other questions
- what happens in the event of a tie for a lynch vote?
- what happens in the event of a tie for the werewolf vote?

Oh, and Llama #1

True, but you don't know you're just a villager. Leaders are told they're villagers, so you might be a villager, but you might be a leader.

Both good questions. If there is a tie for a lynch vote then whichever candidate for lynching has more non-leaders voting will be lynched.

If the wolves tie then we'll just roll a die and randomly select from among the candidates with an equal amount of votes to be eaten.

Important Announcement:

The schedule that is in the first post of the thread at the very top has been updated to work with Lucky and myself's available time to run the game. It does push the start date back a bit, but I hope that won't be a major inconvenience for the players.

I'll go ahead and join this, but I feel that the wolves have massive advantages in this game. Mainly because it should be relatively easy to figure out who the leaders are and kill them. The lack of co-ordination will be a problem, but it also means that their voting records can't really be used against them. We shall see what happens.

I guess my advice is for us to bandwagon like crazy so it's harder for the wolves to identify the leaders.

I vote Llama #4

I'm in, though just one question-
Soo... Do villagers have no influence whatsoever? :smalleek:

Vonriel
2007-07-15, 01:36 AM
Yes, they do, because the leaders may be swayed by majority vote, rather than by personal bias. So, if a bunch of people are already pointing at someone, they'll point at that person as well, thinking he'll be the one to be killed anyway, and thus avoiding potential death.

Lucky
2007-07-15, 08:52 PM
I'm in, though just one question-
Soo... Do villagers have no influence whatsoever? :smalleek:Well the wolves are very rarely obvious in that every person knows who to vote for when day comes around. In every game people put forward their opinion for who they think is a wolf, and then individuals decide who they most agree with. Leaders and villagers both have equal influence in the regard that they can put forth arguments all the same.

EDIT: I'm leaving for Calgary tomorrow morning, so I'll see you all when I get back.
